Beyond: Two Souls- demo impressions - now publicly available

Loving all the positive impressions, can someone take some screen captures?, I want to see how it looks but I don't want to play the demo :(

Awesome thread, loving the impressions so far, thanks fellow GAFfers! Never played Heavy Rain but it looked good and I've been excited to try Beyond. I don't think I mind the David Cagey aspect either. Just got my code, so I'll be able to play it sometime in the next few days. Can't wait. :D

How did the part in the town go for everyone else? I seriously couldn't find the damn helicopter in the sky so I got caught.

I really wish the demo had more calm walking around parts. The train for example.

I got the first sniper, then pushed a few cars and got a few of the ground soldiers, the soldiers started moving closer and Jodie wanted Aiden to open the door. After I opened the door I was able to get the helicopter.

Will not be top 10 in NPDs

Yeah ok

Who will stop playing GTA,BF4, ect to play this?

Guaranteed this doesnt make top 10 NPD in OCT

tons or powerful IPs will make this not get noticed.

Realize this game is not getting the Uncharted/Last OF Us backing

From Sony Advertising campaign either.

I will be the first to say it

This game will not be in the top 10 NPDs

Please tell us how you REALLY feel.

It really pains me to see this game coming out now. Pretty much any other year and I would've bought it. I really liked Heavy Rain. It's just that, they have so much coming out this year I can only buy so much...new gaming PC, PS4, etc. I guess I'll pick it up down the road. I hope it turns out to be a great game.

That's what they all said about "Heavy Rain". And yet....

Right, Jodie was inside the theater but I couldn't find the helicopter once I had to use it. Like I looked up in the sky and couldn't find it lmao. I assume if you get it the final part plays differently.

Don't really get the point either.. what does he want us to say? :S

I told you :P

Demo impressions

Graphics: Immense, not quite good enough for top 10 NPD
Gameplay: Much improved if a little simple, can;t see people stopping their playthroughs of GTA for it though
Sound: Amazing voice acting obviously, great ambient sound and OST, although I don't think it will sell very well because of it
Overall: Really good, but who gives a shit about the quality of a game when we can judge them on their sales?

In conclusion, its a David Cage game so I'll join in and chat utter shite about it

Is there a YouTube link or something?
Is this more of a "game" than Heavy Rain?
I loved the choices you could make in Heavy Rain and the different outcome.
But I haven't seen that in Beyond so far?

Game looks amazing.

I want to see them expand on this idea and risk an out and out 'drama'. Hardly any action, just great acting, great script and meaningful scenes. You would control your character as a director controls the acting and find out more about the character you control by interacting with the people and places around you. Sometimes an interaction would begin a plot driven sequence while others would trigger a character development sequence. I would gladly play a game like that.

Demo is great! It really impressed me. I was worried about not enjoying the game as much as Heavy Rain (big reason I loved it was the murder mystery), but I was having a great time in the demo. They picked some really good scenes for the demo that will surely sell some people on the game.

QD delivered again, huh? Great! Can't wait to finally play HR when I fix my disk laser and then enjoy TLOU and Beyond as PS3 2013 finales.

Real talk though, I'm right there with you hoping the retail product manages to fair better than the demo.

real talk, jon93 never answered the question. also, EmptySpace is not hoping for anything since he is satisfied with what the demo showcased.

Just finished it. Really compelling and quite intense. Damn those visuals in the forest. Felt next gen to me lol. Also, I get where Ready at Dawn are going with the letterbox aspect ratio, because it works really well with this game and I never thought I'd gel with it. It is rather filmic. In-fact, a lot of times I couldn't tell if it was a cutscene or in-game lol. Only segment of the entire thing I thought was a bit off was the fight practise in a gym. Felt a bit bland and repetitive. Other than that, really impressive. Genuinely intriguing concept with Ivan, and actually quite a lot of creative freedom and control. That police segment towards the end felt almost sandboxy with the amount of stuff available for you to do, and the ways you could approach it. I actually got a bit confused in where to go or what to do. There wasn't exactly a set funnelled version of what to do per se.

Just randomly messing around with stuff is quite fun, but there's always that slight feeling of unease. Especially in the beginning scene where you scare the crap out of that lady.

I honestly feel this could be yet another GOTY contender right here.

The section on the train had my heart racing, haven't felt that with a game in a very long time.

Special edition includes:

-Steelbook
-Soundtrack
-Dynamic Theme
-Extensive behind the scenes material
-Extra scene (30 minutes long)

Costs $60 if you pre-order at GameStop. It's a no brainer really, it's free stuff.

Is the 30 min extra scene playable or is it just cut-scene?
For the poor folks not able to pre-order at Gamestop, anyone knows whether this will be made available eventually?
Because the damn shop doesn't even exist in the country where i live...

Don't forget it's overall sales which made gangbusters for Sony. And if I'm not mistaken, Heavy Rain was one of the few games that didn't go down in price for a very looong time.

I loved Heavy Rain and was one of the few titles I had that casuals and other people played when they saw me playing it.

Don't really get the point either.. what does he want us to say? :S

To drop the game, don't buy it and STOP enjoying it? Amazes me how much people want to dictate the gaming habits of other people. Posting on a demo thread how you think it won't be be one of the top 10 selling games for the month or whatever is like people saying shouldn't buy any other game than Call of Duty/Battlefield and other multi-million selling titles.

Game looks amazing.

Whoa! This and The Last of Us...Sony needs to let other devs their PS3 juice secret.

I remember when I played Uncharted 2 and didn't experience any loading at all aside from the initial load. Amazed me technically.

Why do people feel the need to say that this will not be in top 10 NPD? Look at heavy rain. Some people including me enjoy the game so just get outta here.

Dont know where you live, but all US retail exclusive preorder are usually included in the asia region normal release.

You'll need asia psn account to redeem the codes though.

Just got the demo, man that first part in the hospital or w/e was really something! I think I'll leave it there, I'm convinced.

Pretty good demo; the Hunting section was particular good. Also, i got a lot of vibes of the "Fallen" movie. BTW, does any else got bugs on the game, i got a couple:

Also, in next cutscene, the hand got a weird glitch.

what the fuck I didn't even notice this haha.

====================================

also, man that scene in the beginning with the woman, you can really go nuts scaring the living shit out of her. It's an amazing feeling being that paranormal entity and affecting the environment and getting a reaction out of NPCs. You can mess with
her purse, water bottle, the stack of files on the desk, the desk itself, every pane of glass around the room, the air condition/heating unit, the chair, the cabinet, the cameras hanging on the ceiling, the lights in the room, the cards, etc and you can choke her
...holy shit thats alot of stuff :P

Secret juice is rendering only exactly what you need, the best looking PS3 games rely heavily on streaming

I almost went full psycho on her but I couldn't in the end and stopped before choking her, I haven't felt like that in a videogame before, I'm getting this day 1 for sure.

I've just tried the demo, and I was impressed by the visuals (obviously. The game is really gorgeous for current gen), the branching sequences, and how interesting controlling Aiden was during the Experiment/tutorial section.

So, from a purely technical and mechanical point of view, I'm not worried about how the game will turn out. I like this style of gameplay every so often, and like I said before, the graphics are very, very nice.

What concerns me is the writing and the acting outside of the lead characters. Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain has trained me to detect the tiniest "French-isms" in the script, so there was no chance I could play Beyond without remaining keenly prepared to hear some unnatural dialogue and accents, which will most likely affect my experience. It's not fair to the game, but it is what it is.

What part is this?

I was on the road,
got captured because I missed the QTE during the roadblock, escaped from the police car and the trailer started to play. :(

Has anyone from Europe downloaded the demo? I would like to know if the demo is multilanguage to evaluate buying the game from Uk online shops...
