If it is Persona 5, and I am assuming with the domain post it is...will this be localized?

I am asking a very serious question now that Sega owns Atlus. Always have concern when Sega's involved, friends.

Of course it will. Don't be surprised if the wait is very short either.

Does does the "ch" in p-ch have some sort of signification in Japanese?

Maybe the cast will battle against the Internet personae of posters on a Japanese image board? :P

If it is Persona 5, the only possible platforms would be PS3/360.

Why it won't be on the 3DS:

Development of the next Persona supposedly started around March 2010. If the game were made for the 3DS, they could reuse PS2 assets or assets from SMT:Strange Journey / SMTIV. There's no reason why it would take (assuming this releases in 2014) 4+ years to develop this game, especially considering the previous Persona timelines went P3 in 2006 -> P3FES in 2007 -> P4 in 2008. Not only that, but they've never released a persona game on the DS/3DS, and it certainly wouldn't make sense to make P4G for the Vita if they were working on a Persona 5 for the 3DS at the same time. That would be splitting your userbase instead of building a new one on a new platform.

Why it won't be on the PS4/Xbone:

The Playstation 3 came out in 2006, and Atlus then proceeded to release P3FES in 2007 and P4 in 2008. They are one of the last developers to move to a new console. Also, there was an interview when Catherine released that basically said the engine for that game was a "test" that aims to help the persona team for future games. It would make no sense for the Persona team to make Catherine, then have the Persona series skip gen 7 entirely and release a game for the PS4/Xbone.

Why it won't be on the PS3/PS4 aka up port (more proof that it won't be on the PS4):

IIRC, Atlus has never released a game on a platform in the first year of its life, and Atlus typically release games within a year of its announcement. The PS4 is coming out February of 2014, and since it's very unlikely for Atlus to release a PS4 game before February 2015, they wouldn't announce it in 2013. Furthermore, if you look at the announced JP PS4 games, even though many of them are PS3/PS4, they are actually games that typically would come out earlier in a console's generation. Yakuza Ishin mirrors Yakuza Kenzan which came out on PS3 only early on, and Dynasty Warriors 8 mirrors Dynasty Warriors 6 which came out on PS3/360 only early on. They are meant to be PS4 games that are also releasing on the PS3 because there is no PS4 userbase at launch. The Persona games, on the other hand, historically do not release early in a console's lifecycle and there have been no instances of up ports from Atlus.

Why it won't be on the Vita:

Every Persona game so far has first been released on a console and then ported to a handheld. P1 and P2 went from PSX->PSP, P3 went from PS2->PSP, and P4 went from PS2->Vita. It makes too much sense for Atlus to not do PS3->Vita for Persona 5, especially since they've built an audience for console mainline games with Catherine/Arena, and they've built an audience for console ports with P4Golden. Yes, SMT4 is a mainline and is on a handheld, but Atlus never ports mainline SMT games, and they have always ported (without exception) mainline Persona games, and it has always been from a Sony console to a Sony portable. Not to mention considering the long development times of Persona 5, and the small userbase of the Vita, it's very likely that a Vita-exclusive P5 would recoup development costs. We're talking roughly 80m PS3 versus 5m Vita worldwide, and 9.5m PS3 versus 1.8m Vita in Japan.

Why it won't be on the Wii U:

Why not PS3/Vita? Instead of porting it onto the Vita at a later date, they could have developed them at the same time. Not sure about it being on 360, JRPGs don't seem to do very well on that system. PS3 is a pretty safe bet though, the announcement has come too soon after the Sega acquisition for them to have had any influence on the chosen platform.

None of this post makes really sense. It doesn't present a strong argument for any platform to release P5 on. It was funny to read though.

Yeah, my bet stands as PS3/360 too. Especially considering how experimental Catherine seemed to be for ATLUS as a worldwide fan-base, consumeristic analysis of the market.

Channel.

PS3/Vita: Atlus always makes the mainline Persona on a console first, then port it over to a handheld years later with some additional content as a full game. This way they get to sell the same game twice with little additional development. It's extra money because people will double-dip whereas they would not double-dip if it's a day-and-date release on the PS3/Vita. Also, because the Vita is a relatively new system compared to the PS3, it would be better for sales to delay the Vita port so there's a larger userbase. Furthermore, if you look at large PS3 franchise entries such as Yakuza, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, and Tales, none of them release day-and-date with the Vita. The only PS3 / Vita games tend to be 1. Yearly releases like Soccer games or Baseball games and 2. Games that are much more suited to the Vita like Toukiden that also have a PS3 release because they probably wouldn't sell enough on the Vita platform alone.

X360: Catherine was released on PS3/360 and Persona 4: Arena was also released on PS3/360. Atlus has not released a game that is PS3-exclusive. Most PS3-exclusive games are games that sell very little in the West compared to Japan, so there is no point in making a 360 port - games such as Yakuza, Atlier games, Ni no Kuni, etc. Persona games are very popular in the west so it'll be on the 360.

Nino Kuni probably sold better in the west than Persona does.

The power of Ghibli (well Disney actually, but you get it).

Didn't people doubt smt on 3ds?

I certainly didn't. People tend to doubt a main entry from a relatively big franchise will head to a portable device though, and for SMT, its not really the main franchise for Atlus and it didn't really had a recent game before it (like Catherine for Persona) to justify the direction it should probably head. Thats how I see it at least.

I hope it isn't 3DS. I wouldn't really be interested in a low res Persona 5.
Vita/PS3/PS4/Wii U/Xbox 360 though I would be down for.

If it is persona 5 and it is indeed on ps3 I will be slightly disappointed that we didn't get the announcement until after ps4 has already been released. Then again the announcement is for japan and japan won't have ps4 at that point so technically they sorta released persona details before next gen.

I want to add that the porting job from PS3 to Vita is a whole lot easier than PS3 to 3DS.

650K West for PS3

Persona 4 probably did like 250k in NA iirc so yeah he's right.

Means nothing. Iirc PS3 was supposed to get a SMT game.

I'm pretty sure Persona 4 sold less than 150k in NA, let alone 250k. Unless you are adding P4G numbers to PS2 P4 numbers.

taking sales of Persona 4 in 2008 on PS2 to judge how popular the series is now or how a P5 would sell, seems like a very poor estimation to me in any case. Very different situation, I think the brand has grown a lot since then, we'll have to wait and see I guess.

My favourite thing about this kind of reasoning is how it treats trends as though they're unbreakable laws or something.

Tweets from Shuhei Yoshida may indicate that the game(s) will be on Sony systems. I mean, just look at that smile:

"ペルソナのファンだからRTしたけど、何か知ってるわけではナイです。 ( ̄ー ̄) p-ch.jp"

A coincidence? Maybe?

Seeing that SMT-series have been primarily of Nintendo systems and the spin-off Persona and Sony, make me believe that it will be so this time too.

EDIT:Just remembered that SEGA loves sony systems for everything else other than Sonic games. They either publish sonic for all consoles, ps3/360, android/ios or ps3/vita. Most of them are never localized though...

3 boxes -> 3 games, Atlus said they've lots of announcement soon a while back

cities -> are where they're holding events for public exhibition of said announcements, possibly tied in with P3 movie opening. They're revealing this two months earlier to start taking reserves or something soon.

the games will be announced much earlier through other means. The 3 games are probably P5, P3 port, P4U2 home console ver, persona games only here obviously.

I like this. So...about time? Will they be announced in Famitsu first? :P

And there's no doubt it'll AT LEAST be a PS3 game. Everything else is just a maybe, save 3DS which is very very unlikely to happen.

Don't worry the 3DS should be getting other Megaten games (Devil Survivor 3 anyone?)

I like that thinking, really looking forward to all games from atlus. Though the PAL region is really bad since Atlus don't seem to publish here at all.

yeah, something like that. They announced P4U2 on some random day with a public location test after all. who knows :P

I don't want to get into platform debates, though a bit of common sense and looking at what they've said after release of Catherine seem to imply that way.

And with Sega owning them now, they can't afford to make their own Yakuza spin off PS4 only, I think they want to maximize their expensive investment into this new company and IPs for the time being to prove it wasn't a wrong call.

That's where Sega will help since they're strong here. If they bring Atlus games to the West, getting PAL versions won't be a problem anymore

PS3/360 makes most sense but if it's on 3DS I will buy it. I pretty much own every possible platform unless Microsoft pulls a miracle and get it exclusive to Xbox One
