Anyone running this on Bootcamp? I'm wondering if my MacBook pro would run it...we bought it earlier this year, it's the 13 inch non retina version 2.5 Ghz Intel core i5, 4GB RAM, etc. We are mainly playing on the PS3 but it would be nice to play at the same time with my wife.

Yep. Mine is 2.3 Ghz i7 15" with 4GB RAM non retina and I can run it with no issues. I think you'd be the same. Just install a 64bit Windows or it won't recognize the 4GB RAM (I didn't know about that at first so I say it just in case)

From what I understand it isn't supposed to change your ping ( so the time it take for the data to get to destination ) , but the frequency at which it send those data.

It's just a registry change that tells windows not to bundle TCP ACK packets into groups since this causes duplicate packets and delays actual new data from getting to you. However if the underlying cause of AoE grief has to do with how often the server even wants to update your position if you're not casting then that can still cause issues.

So I've got WHM, BRD and BLM all to low 30s, but I decided to really start looking into ACN after getting it to 15 for WHM. From my viewpoint, I think this is the RDM of ARR (at least up to level 20 where I'm sitting at now). In dungeon runs I basically tell Topaz Carby to attack a secondary mob while I put up to 5 DoT/enfeebling spells on the all of the mobs. I've even had to backup heal here and there in addition to healing Carby.

That said... I had an experience yesterday that I'm going to share. It's kind of long, but it frustrated me more than most DF experiences I've run into. Now, I've run a lot of DF dungeons from Sats up to HM. I've had plenty of bad experiences, but some of these people are just straight ignorant.

I was in a party with a CNJ, GLA and LNC. I have Carby tanking on his own mob while I DoT and enfeeble. The tank isn't holding hate well, but I put Carby on any mobs that go after the CNJ, saving him multiple times. At one point I get hate and my health drops down to around 90 HP before Carby gets the mob off me. I sit there for the rest of the fight (a good minute at least) with no heal from the CNJ, who isn't really healing anyone since Carby has the hate on all the mobs.

At this point I decide I'm no longer going to get the healer out of a bind since he can't even toss me a cure when I'm getting pummeled. So a few fights later, he dies... and immediately leaves the duty. I make a quick comment about how he leaves after his first and only death and the other two say NOTHING. They just continue through the dungeon.

My FFXI SMN days kick in and I automatically take on the role of backup healer, while still allowing Carby to do his thing. This works all the way up until the boss (I think we were on Copperbell with the giants). I stop right before the final fight to explain how it's going to work and that Carby won't be able to tank the boss like he's been doing the entire dungeon.

The GLA IGNORES me and runs in to start the battle. We proceed to die several times, while I ask the GLA repeatedly to use more flash and keep the mobs on him. He doesn't say a word and just continues to ignore any advice I give. I finally give up and leave the duty after probably 5 wipes.

Are people really that unsocial that he couldn't even respond? I mean even if he's on a PS3, you can say that or just type something on the on-screen keyboard. The ignorance was just deafening.

It's possible that the gladiator was a bot...

I've heard from my guild mates that they've ended up in duty finder parties with bots before and they're terrible (and never respond to people talking in party)

I never bothered checking out his gear, but that could've been the case. If so, it's interesting what people can do with bots these days. Then again, the LNC didn't have much to say either. He/she was responsive more than the GLA though.

I really hope that this stops early. I'd hate to pop into an AK group with a bot tank or dps, though I suppose it'd be pretty obvious before even reaching the first boss.

It sucks that they were not coordinating very well, but I fucking hate Topaz carby in dungeons. I wish I could chop it in half with my axe.

When I went through the early dungeons on my GLA I had the same resentment. Because of this, the first thing I do when I get into a DF dungeon is to ask if there's any preference as to which Carby I use. Only once has anyone had a preference (which was for Emerald).

Why do you dislike Topaz so much? Aside from the obvious tanking problems it can cause...

So far my Topaz Carby has tanked better than any other tank I've partied with using DF. I know that's not saying much but... yeah.

i dunno if it was a bot. there was a tank in AV who was constantly spinning mobs, which ended up in the two melee dps getting fucked by coincounter. no matter how many times we asked him to stop there was no reply, then we get to the last boss and they ask, "everyone know this?"

I've healed WAR's through Titan HM and 7k HP is more than enough to eat a mountain buster without Stoneskin. I try to toss it up there whenever I can but depending on where the raid and the tanks HP is at I'd rather get the tank topped off than throw up a stoneskin.

Yeah sorry, I should have been more clear, I was implying that if your healer has issues healing you up even with a ton of hp on a fight like Titan HM, you're going to be dead for reasons other than stoneskin use or lack of :D

I'm a Warrior, so I naturally hate anyone that tries to compete with me for enmity. :)

If Topaz Carby is out-tanking your duty finder tanks, then they suck. They should all prefer Emerald unless they are bad at their class. I can totally see it being a viable alternative in that case, but 99.9% I would vastly prefer Emerald Carby being used.

Doing Titan story tonight. I ain't even afraid (I know it's not the real deal but whatever).

Had a great gaf group last night. We ran Brayflox and was a lot of fun. Didn't get anything from the chests though so I might actually run it a couple more times before hitting Titan.

Late night gaffers are awesome, you know who you are.

Could be either botting through trash or the bot has a command that pops when a cutscene is triggered in the instance.

Idk, that sounds fishy to me if the tank doesn't at least try and stop doing the same thing over again and causing the party some pain.

Fun trivia - I noticed that Titan does Landslide according to the guitar rifts or jams to the music.
I dunno if it's the same during HM.

I'm almost level 29. No more quests left, about to head into Thousands Maw. Hunting log cleared. Rank 4 still hasn't opened up for me.

Why can't you dye gloves?

Do bots have names just like players? How can I differentiate between them then?

Have you guys seen the videos of the PvP and Housing? Dunno if it have been posted yet.

I wish there is a FFXIV community for noobs. Many communities I've visited are populated with LV50 players so all the talks are about end games stuffs which I have no clue. The only place I see many newcomers is gamefaqs but you all know how gf is. I feel like it is my fault for not playing since 1.0 or didn't get to play beta.

PS. why are there so much abbreviation in this game? Is there a website that includes all abbreviation used in conversation?

I'm not exaggerating when I say that there were 2 people in our Titan HM party last night who were having serious lag issues and they couldn't avoid plumes and landslides even when they appeared to be clearly out of them. They installed the Leatrix Latency Fix and we killed the son of a bitch 2 tries later.

Well...theres here and/or the forums for either GAF free company. Everyone is still relatively noobish considering the game has only been out for like a month or so, and all the content is 100% new, except for some passing familiarity via older primal battles.

Abbreviations are in all MMOs. Most are just shortenings of location names or player types/styles/jobs/classes. Just ask what it means and i'm sure they'll be glad to oblige.

There are probably players who don't even look at the chat window.

So many elitist attitudes lately I have noticed in game. I joined a pug group last night for AK. They said they wanted geared DD so I joined.

I'm geared full darklight, relic, and some AF2. For a BRD my dmg is pretty damn high. So the next person joined. It was a DRG. Alright gear. Darklight, Relic. Standard fair.

As soon as we get in the DRG starts talking shit about the tank whom is not as well geared. Bugged the hell out of me.

It was obvious that they were new to running the dungeon and instead of trying to show them how to do it they just tore them down.

So I started being a dick also but to the drg. Telling them :before you start talking shit about other peoples gear and being well geared...make sure you don't have any green slotted gear" lol they got pissed and dropped lol after I put them to shame dmg wise cause I started posting parses and saying shit like yeah no green slotted gear does that for you lol.

I do not remember MMO's being this bad. I mean you always have your elitist players, but it seems like everyone thinks they are the shit and the best t hing ever just cause they got a little piece of gear which is pretty damn normal and just takes time no real skill to get.

Is it just me or are peoples attitudes getting worse?

On a side note PUGS are getting better it seems. Me and a MNK were able to kill Demon Wall before just as it started to cast it's 2nd repel. it was like 20% into case when we killed it lol.

i don't want to blame it on other mmos bringing this out in other players, because xi players weren't perfect either. but there are things here that i don't remember seeing the 3 years i played xi. plus i haven't played any other mmos aside from xiv and a couple months of gw2, so i have no idea what the community was like in wow and others. however...

tanks/healers vs dps. for one, nobody called it dps in xi that i knew of. nobody on odin, nobody on ffxiah, bluegartr, or any other place i went to for xi info etc.but this whole thing were dps are mouthbreathing morons, and tanks and healers run this shit is not something i've ever seen. maybe it was during the early days of xi and died off by the time i got there in 2007. i dunno. but from what i've seen, people might have been elitist about the type of dd, type of tank, type of healer, or how you played, but not how i'm seeing in xiv. in here dps are window lickers, period.

impatience with how people are geared. it's a month into the game. i'm thinking people that ran things like salvage, or waited in a line of endless people for byakko's haidate or homam legs have the patience for gear progression. i got yelled at two weeks into the game for not having all my gear upgraded already in an ak run. really?

people could have just changed over the years, but i wonder if any of it is due to people being used to other games. for the people that played other mmos, how common were attitudes like this?

edit: the point where i DID start to find elitism in xi was when i joined an hnmls. but it still wasn't that bad compared to this, and i was in one of the more notorious hnmls on odin (resu, if anyone has heard of them). people often parsed and shared results, and if you fucked something up you would get berated. i didn't really see any job elitist, but rather job necessities. might be the same to some, though.

I don't know where to begin to try and figure out where it all started. But players like that are assholes and I have no patience for them.

Yesterday in our almost-all-GAF Garuda HM run we had a 1 tank and 1 healer from Duty Finder that were already complaining about our play BEFORE WE EVEN STARTED THE FIGHT.

That's the kind of attitude that I just do not want to have to deal with. I'm not even gonna bother with Coil until there are more GAF members ready for it because I just do not have the patience for those jokers.

There was some amazing lag in Titan last night. The screen would freeze for like 20-30 seconds and then the server would play catch up with everything moving in fast forward motion for several seconds.

Idk, it seemed like there were times in XI where if you weren't the right job or had the right equipment, you were chopped liver. Particularly dragoon or any pet job. Rng was godly for a while then fell off. For a while nobody wanted any tank besides nin and pld was second rate. Even whm got the shaft over rdm for a lot of activities.

That's good that they're not taking credit and have already submitted the bug report. SE better hop on that shit fast because now everyone's going to be trying to figure out how to bug the boss.

It's just how MMOs tend to be. If you're in-game and ask about stuff, most people will explain it. This game is still new to a lot of people.

And here: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Dictionary_of_Terms_and_Slang

Will kinda laugh if they get punished somehow for killing it and getting loot out of it. Would suck for them, but it's not like they accidentally killed it. Reminds me Exodus' (?) Yogg'Saron kill from WoW where you can hear someone in vent comment that they're totally going to get banned.

Looks like they're asking for it to be rolled back though, so at least they're being totally up front about it unlike how most WoW guilds were.
