Please tell me someone already sent this link to the appropriate news outlets.

As much as this needs to happen, all it'll really do is spark a city-led salt fest about how Philly PD is misunderstood and underfunded. Which, while real and serious issues, will only be addressed to gloss over the fact much of the force is actively scummy.

They? Them?

Also, it seemed a lot more like an anecdotal statement downplaying this, and any other video like it; also while choosing to acknowledge the factors that create environments that allow videos like this to exist.

How is saying all cops aren't like this and to stop being lazy and painting them with the same brush an anecdotal statement downplaying anything? He just said he's glad all cops aren't like this, which is a fact that you seem too worked up to comprehend.

That awesome imbalance of power. Shit cops are protected by less shit cops and the presumption that cops are telling the truth when their story diverges from that of witnesses.

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
Predictably enraging.

Terrible. Could not imagine that happening to me. It felt like the officers were trying to provoke a response.

I can't imagine having to put up with that shit, and I am sorry that anyone has to deal with that.

I was reading a little bit about what the police are allowed to do. Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like they can stop and question people without telling them their intent. That pretty much makes it okay for them to stop and harass people and there isn't much anyone can do.

It really is a double edged sword, you can invoke your right to remain silent and say that you do not consent to a search, but you still can't resist. You may also provoke the officers into making your time with them miserable, what's to stop them from lying about why they are arresting you? What do you do in these guy's case?

Exactly what I'm thinking. At one point in the video, I had a fantasy of taking a nightstick to the face of that cop that wouldn't shut his mouth. I figured he had most likely done it to innocent people so I would feel no remorse

Listened to all 16 minutes, so infuriating

I remember when I was pulled over by a cop and he asked me if I was drunk or high, that was so fucking random. I guess that's what I get for being one of the few Mexicans in town.

I don't know what to be more offended by. The racism part or how stupid these cops are. He knew he was recording before and then didn't bother to think that the phone could still be recording...

Fucking assholes dictating normal behavior. This sort of stuff should make any person's blood boil, the worst part is that these dicks probably jacked off each other for doing a job well done. Tax money at work people!

waiting for cop gaf to defend these fine officers.

The cops were just doing their job. You don't know that they didn't get a call on their radio saying to be on the lookout for a black guy wearing the same clothes as one of these guys. Plus, they were jaywalking, after passing by another black guy sitting on a set of stairs and talking suspiciously to him. Where do they have to go that they're in such a hurry? Clearly they needed to get away fast, or they wouldn't have crossed the street without waiting for the signal. What were they hiding?

If they didn't do anything wrong, then they wouldn't have been recording, and they wouldn't have put up such a fight when the police grabbed them and asked them simple questions like "What is this X in between your first and last name?" It could be a middle name, it could mean XTRA DANGEROUS DRUG DEALER. You don't KNOW what they know.

This got me. lol

Still relevant today

Fuck the police coming straight from the underground
A young nigga got it bad cause I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority
Fuck that shit, cause I ain't the one
For a punk motherfucker with a badge and a gun
To be beating on, and throwing in jail
We can go toe to toe in the middle of a cell
Fucking with me cause I'm a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a pager
Searching my car, looking for the product
Thinking every nigga is selling narcotics
You'd rather see, me in the pen
Than me and Lorenzo rolling in a Benz-o

alright, here's your chance to counter these anecdotal same-brush-ass statements:
find me a single news story about abusive cops getting an amount of jail time proportional to their crime, preferably because other cops (who weren't in internal affairs to begin with) did them in.

Or more generally: do you think it is also wrong to portray the vast majority of cops as complicit when they either willfully ignore or actively cover for crimes of other officers. Or would you say that that's not what the majority of cops do? and if so, Where's the news on this not-silent majority?

Yeah one of those guys was acting like a giant prick. All pigs are horrible people. seems like a logical jump.

4 minutes in sounds exactly like the cops who stopped me in 9th grade because I was late to school. I mean fuck are you really gonna curse and scream at a 14 year old because I missed a fucking bus, although I was kinda a smart ass to be fair.

The most recent episode of This American Life (it's ep 414), has a story about a cop who didn't like the way that his department was being run. So he carried a recorder with him to expose what was happening (illegal stop and searches, arrest quotas that had to be met, etc.). To say that all cops are bad, or cowards is just wrong. Here is a link to a news story about him, as well as a link to the "This American Life" episode with his story.

I've dealt with the LAPD several times in my life and it has been about a 60/40 split between scumbag pigs and level-headed cops doing their job. The pigs get really aggro when they think they can bust you for something, and even more aggro when you know your rights. This is with me being white, too.

I doubt its that bad. You don't notice all the cops that aren't harassing you, because they're leaving you alone. I think painting a majority of a group of people to be bad people based on a few bad experiences with them is exactly the sort of generalizing thinking that leads to racism and other prejudices. And I'm constantly amazed how little people realize that.

Also, yea, a lot of people wanting to shout racist all the time need to realize that there's cops that are assholes in general and aren't just being racist. Its annoying that a white person cant be an asshole to a black person without it being a race issue. ;) Not saying the cop here isn't racist and isn't being motivated by racism, but we don't really know that.

I'm not surprised the least. You know who's worse than these scumbags? All the other cops who cover for them.

Which has nothing to do with the statement that not all cops are arseholes. You are talking about the whole systemic problem, which is fucked up, but it doesn't mean every cop is a fuckhead like these guys or would defend these guys.

I was just commenting on my personal experiences. I know people who have had 100% bad experiences, and others who have had 100% good experiences with the police. The job attracts two kinds of people. People who genuinely want to make the world a safer place, and people who want power. It's hard to say who is in the majority, but the latter is the one always making their way into YouTube videos for shit like this.

Always going to be bad seeds in any group of people. The ones who aren't doing anything wrong and just doing their job normally aren't going to be reported on much, obviously.

Just saying, its dangerous to judge a group of people based on a few bad experiences. Somebody could easily do the same thing to justify their racism.

It really bothers me that the cop doesn't think he's threatening unless the gun is out of the holster. That takes just a sheer lack of perspective.
