A 12-year-old from Stamford was arrested on Tuesday after police say she continually bullied, taunted and harassed a 13-year-old classmate while at school.

Police said the victim’s parents contacted the department to report the bullying on Sept. 20. Both students attend a private middle school.

The bullying started at the beginning of the school year, according to police.

It intensified while police and school administrators investigated, pushing the victim to make suicidal comments, police said.

Police said the 12-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct and was released to the custody of her parents.

“If it is brought to our attention we will vigorously investigate the allegations and make arrests when appropriate. We investigate all claims of bullying and this type of behavior will not be condoned in a learning environment.”

Good to see bullying is being treated as more of a serious problem that can have terrible consequences. Hopefully this will send a strong message to the parents to be more involved.

I think if it pushed the girl to making suicidal comments and the bully STILL wasn't stopping after multiple warnings, what else can you do?

Hopefully she stops now.

I'm surprised it got to the point of getting police involved, one would hope the school could handle these issues before suicidal thoughts become a factor, but it's a good thing they're doing what's necessary to put an end to this.

I'm glad, I'm hopeful that bully will learn and change themselves over this.

From my many years of being bullied, I've learned that schools really can't do much. Telling the student to stop or even suspending them, really does nothing. They will come back the next week and continue. Heck, most cases rattling on them, where the punishment is a pathetic, "jimmy don't do that", just makes the bully target you more. It's the parents of the bully that really need to be involved and get off their ass and punish their child to tell them that that is not right.

I'm really hopeful that bully getting arrest will finally get the parents to finally act like a parent and be in charge and change things

I was bullied quite a bit growing up and as a result absolutely hated school and skipped a ton and did terribly. I never really thought about suicide as a result but I had fantasies about doing things that these days just talking about would be grounds for expulsion (this was the 80's/90's). I now have 2 boys and this has been on my mind a ton lately. It's so sad that people's lives can be ruined or ended because of this sort of behavior and for what a few laughs? I'm really glad to see the attention bullying is getting the past few years. It'll never end and there is something to be said when it comes to kids just being kids and not overreacting to simple teasing, but its so potentially damaging to all involved it needs as much light shown on it as possible.

Break the bullies nose. If they want to establish that sort of framework, play by their rules.
