pretty good.
made me want to watch an episode again, I used to adore this show, but I havent seen a single one since season 10

is it worth it?

Everyone says that Simpsons has sucked for the last 10 years. So who is even watching it?

You never hear anyone talking about it anymore. Is it just getting by from people leaving the TV on that channel or something? There has to be some people that still enjoy it.

Was I really the only one not thinking much of it? Just a bunch of "Yeah I got that reference, heh!".
Yup, not to mention I'm not really big fan of these extended couch gags, they should be small jokes, nothing else.
I'm still going to watch the episode. I don't even know why I bother anymore. I guess it would just feel odd not to watch Simpsons once a week.

So I caught references to all of del Toro's movies in there. The Cronos one made me especially happy to see.

But I didn't see a reference to The Devil's Backbone. I had to have just missed it right? He references everything else he's done.

Ive watched a few recent episodes and I found them funnier than Family Guy, Cleveland show, or Bob's burgers, but since they arent as good as the old Simpsons everyone thinks they are shit instead of just not being as good as the old Simpsons

Amazing.

Lol at the ADD generation, treehouse couch gags are always on the long side, you people... And being so chockful of references, it was awesome.

Banksy got away with his because it drove the point to the ground, hell there's a freaking unicorn used to open the CD holes, its satire is so over the top it stops being satire. this Ullman's Simpsons reference is much subtler.

There a list yet of all the references?
Compilation of references included in the Guillermo del Toro couch gag from Reddit:

From Reddit:

"Pacific Rim" (Kaiju and Jaeger in background)
"Treehouse of Horror" (Lard Lad comes to life)
"Lord of the Rings"? (dragons w/ riders in background)

"The Birds" (jungle gym) and Alfred Hitchcock
"The Shining" (chalkboard gag) and Stephen King
"Hellboy" (Groundskeeper Willie + Kroenen)
"Blade 2" (Homer's splitting jaw + Blade Carl)
"Simpsons" Tracey Ullman shorts (old sketches buried)
"Godzilla" (skeleton buried)
"Pan's Labyrinth" ('Pale Man' Mr. Burns)
"Cronos" (bug-machine thing)
"Mimic" (person-imitating Marge-bug)
"Phantom of the Opera" (Chaney skull-face)
"Phantom of the Opera" (Hammer version's mask)
"Phantom of the Opera" (Claude Rains version's mask)
(NO IDEA) (unknown Phantom mask)
"Phantom of the Paradise" (look it up, people)
"Treehouse of Horror" (tentacle-Maggie on wall)
Authors and Creations (Cthulhu + H. P. Lovecraft, Raven + Edgar Allan Poe, Illustrated Man + Ray Bradbury, "Omega Man" mutant (based on "I Am Legend") + Richard Matheson)
Universal Monsters collection (Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf Man, MutAnt from "This Island Earth," Mummy, Creature from Black Lagoon, Bride of Frankenstein, Invisible Man)

"Freaks" (pinhead and man with no legs)
"The Day the Earth Stood Still" (robot and flying saucer)
"The Mummy" and "The Invisible Man" (already saw them, yes?)
(NO IDEA) (looks Ed Wood-y, though)
The Grim Reaper (many cameos throughout history)
"The Devil's Backbone" (Homer looks like ghost)
"Alice in Wonderland" (Lisa's fall, outfit, cards, mushroom)
"Futurama" (all glory to him)
"Pan's Labyrinth" again (ending sequence)

And some additional observations from NoHomers.net...

Some things I spotted:

• The squad gunning down the zombies is the SNPP Human Resources Dept.
• The three eyed crow from the intro is revealed to be enormous
• The billboard gag "Krusty Now Doing Funerals" is unchanged from the premiere of the HD intro
• Wiggum appears as the cyclops from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad
• I assume the gag of the Ullman Simpsons being dead, along with the bones of Godzilla is a reference to the fact that they've recently rebooted the Godzilla franchise and gave the monster a redesign. Old Godzilla is dead just like Ullman era Simpsons.
• Maggie (actually Baby Gerald in disguise) rings up as "666"
• The hallway Lisa plays her sax out of features portraits from past THOH episodes: Alien Maggie from Treehouse of Horror IX, Island of Doctor Hibbert from Treehouse of Horror XIII, The Grand Pumpkin from Treehouse of Horror XIX, The Raven from the first THOH.
• The Universal Monsters chasing Springfield citizens include: Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature, Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth, Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man
• Featured in the huge group shot near the end is Ro-Man of Robot Monster fame who appears in a cluster of bubbles (Robot Monster featured a bubble machine as a stupid sci-fi gizmo), real life sideshow freaks who appeared in the movie "Freaks" Johnny "The Half Man" Eck and Schlitzie (inspiration for Zippy the Pinhead)
Also, Season 26 is now official!

Pretty great. They really love that "Tracey Ulman Show Simpsons buried under the house" gag though. The most recent episode I saw (maybe 2 years ago) had the same thing.
