Spacebase DF-9 released on Steam Early Access!

Welcome, intrepid explorers! Spacebase DF-9 has launched into the cosmos of Steam Early Access for everyone to play. We appreciate your support more than words can say, but we’re going to try. We’ll use this website to keep you up-to-date on the game’s continuing development, provide resources for new players and some peeks behind the scenes.

Speaking of which: we weren’t kidding in the press release, Tim actually launched us into space and we are trapped on this satellite! We’re okay for the moment; we figured out how to change out the oxygen tanks so we’ll be alive and developing the game for at least another - (checks) - 56 hours! Next I guess we’ll need to worry about food.

While the site went live just today, we’ve put up several back-dated posts that chronicle the game’s development up to this point, starting in March of 2013. You can see how far we’ve come in that time, and hopefully get an idea of where we’re headed!

We also set up a wiki with the help of the nice folks at Gamepedia where players can compile information about the game. We’d like for this to become a primary resource for new and master players but in the spirit of building a real community, we’d like to let you take the first step. It’s publicly editable and waiting for quality contributors, so if the idea of a pristine new wiki waiting to be filled with informationy goodness makes your mouth water, dive in!

Thank you again for joining us on this odyssey. Who knows where we’ll end up? Space is huge and scary but we’ve got each other! SPACE HUUGS!

[END TRANSMISSION]

This is one of the games from the last Amnesia Fortnight which they've turned into a full game.

Didn't know they are turning it into a full game. That is cool.

Would have rather seen Autonomous though to be honest.

Now we play the waiting game: how long until someone comes in here feeling betrayed that Double Fine secretly needed more money for Broken Age, despite the fact they haven't backed the project, despite the fact that it was publicly talked about months before the Massive Chalice Kickstarter, and despite the fact that this has already been hashed out hundreds of times in every Double Fine thread for the last 6 months?

Anyway, the Spacebase prtotype was fun, but not the game I hoped would make it out of the Amnesia Fortnight.

I played the amnesia prototype, which was very bare bones. seemed like an interesting concept though, I'll keep an eye on it.

Feel the same, but will got early access on this if it looks decent enough. The prototype was a little too prototype for my tastes.

I guess the team that would have done Atutonomous is on Massive Chalice, which is shaping up to be sweet by the way.

This one was my own fav from Amnesia Fortnight, gotta scratch that FTL itch.

Gunna wait for proper release though; I've already played one broken shitty in-progress version of this after all.

I think the only other prototype we might see turn into a full game, in the near future anyway, is Hack 'n Slash, since the project leads of the other games are working on Broken Age and Massive Chalice.

That's the one I want most.

The idea was really neat and easy to expand, plus we'd get a Double Fine version of Zelda.

Looks neat. Might buy when it's done. Don't much care for testing out unfinished iterations, prefer having my first experience with a game be the properly completed build where things exist, look, sound and work as they're supposed to.

Looks cool, but my faith in Double Fine is pretty much through the floor right now and that price is too high for what you're currently getting. Definitely waiting for an actual finished product.

I'm really tempted to buy this, even though I tried the DF-lite route once with Gnomoria and didn't really get pulled in.

But this is Double Fine we're talking about.

Looking good. I'm liking the graphical update. I wonder when we'll see Autonomous and Hack n' Slash.

Any of you guys know where I can watch some Let's Plays of Startopia?

Joking aside, I much prefered Bagel's sprite work in the prototype but I guess he's busy with Broken Age.

I hope they aren't doing this because they are strapped for cash for other projects.

They've said a bunch of times that they usually have 3 active teams at any time. So right now you have Broken Age, Massive Chalice, and this, right?

Anyway, the prototype was neat. Pretty excited for this.

Wow, Jake designed the UI. I was thinking it seemed super nice, and one of the reasons I'm going to get this.

Glad I got the Prototype so i'll definitely purchase it on their site to fully support DF as always. Kind of odd it happened on a day where i'm also wearing one of my DF shirts that I own.

Thanks, Tim Schafer. I love you.

Nah, it's being made because a team in-house wanted to make it, and Indie Fund (among others including The Behemoth and Humble Bundle) saw promise in it and wanted to make it happen.

Thanks! The UI in Alpha 1 has some stuff in it that we're proud of, but also a lot of stuff that is still clearly in flux, waiting to see how people actually use it en masse. For all that looks finished, it's all not too hard to take apart and do revisions on (as the team plans to do), once there is a ton of feedback on what's cool and what isn't.

Jake between the UI here and the logo for Steve's podcast, I'm in UI heaven today

Haha that logo. It was intended to look like something out of an old GamePro or Nintendo Power.

Steam link. Base price is $25 but it's currently 20% off ($20).
Did they remove the discount already? Showing as $25 for me, strange.

Need to think before I pay $25 for an alpha but I like the concept. Last game I paid that much for early access (Prison Architect) turned out to be great, so. Hmm.

This reminds me I bought the Amnesia Fortnight Humble Bundle but never ended up touching any of those games. I'll definitely double dip on Space Base if I like the prototype.
