RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

Wow. Just wow. I was getting nervous with my PS4 pre-order about reports about some of the games not running 60 FPS, but how the hell is CoD not running at 60 FPS on Xbox One?

I mean, honestly, to the guys that only play CoD it probably won't matter that much I guess. Anything lower than 900p these days for me is painful. I mean, I have a friend that is rich that could buy both systems at launch but he is a CoD player and that's all he plays and he's got a day one edition Xbox One pre-ordered. I don't fault him for that. Hell, I was there telling him that the launch games probably won't look much different even though I switched camps to PS4 (and I'll be getting an Xbox One later), but now I feel bad for him. He's an older guy. CoD is literally his favorite franchise and is like the only modern game he plays these days outside of retro consoles. He's dropping $500 on CoD and it can't even run it in 1080? What the fuck? I mean, I'm not even considering picking up Ghosts even though I've bought every CoD game since 4 to play with him, but for this guy it's like his favorite franchise. That's just dirty.

And Christ? Titanfall at 720p? That's nearly enough for me to wait for a possible PS4 port or try learning to play with a M and KB on my PC just to avoid that. 720p? Really. Really?
Isn't CoD running at 60fps on XB1, just @720p?

But we know also Halo 5 is hitting 1080p @60.

The world hasn't ended yet.

MS just said 60fps, didn't they? I don't remember them mentioning a resolution.

Where is it going exactly? Will people who enjoyed 360 no longer buy Xbox One because CoD in 720p on the console? Is that what is being insinuated here?
It means COD will play best on PS4 and many 360 owners will be looking into buying one as word of the huge power gap continues to spread into the casuals.

Here is the absolute truth as I know it. I''ve posted this before and I think people took it as my opinion but it's not my opinion, it's the thoughts of people who know.

In february Sony shocked the fuck out Microsoft with both the console and timing of their console. Of course no time was given... but it was obvious that it was this year. MS was looking for a release between this fall and next spring (and any engineer here can tell you that means next spring).

Microsoft never recovered from that.

Here they are with a console sooner than they planned. It's in less countries, it has dick for Kinect support, basic shit like USB harddrives are pushed until next year, the messaging has been a mess.

Kinda sounds like they rushed it. Doesn't it?

That's not to say everything sony has done is perfect... in fact they've fucked up quite a few times... but microsoft has dropped the ball so many times that no one cares about Sony's fuck ups.

Oh i totally agree everything i have read about the XBO situation points to it being rushed the one thing i was hoping that MS wouldnt get at the end of this gen was a big head about the coming gen being secure for themselves. Totally dropping the ball all over the place and it will hurt them initially maybe even in the long run i still think the price hurts them more than this news though.

But it leads credence to the fact that all this rushing is pushing out bad ports which again seems to be coming more from the software side of things than the physical hardware in the box.

I obviously could be wrong of course and cboat could be laughing at me right now but how a game that looks like cod can not run at 1080p let alone 900p on a system thats pushing Ryse at 900p at 30fps and yes i know COD is running at 60fps but it does not seem that demanding.

Most PS3/360 games run at sub-720p and are upscaled to 720/1080p, I believe. You're still getting an upgrade in resolution with Xbone, it's just not always going to be to full 1080p.

Suzu from Raze? Area 52? If not, weird coincidence.

OT: To us this seems pretty significant but to the average COD buying mom at retail, they'll never know.

It must be so!

He is right that they should have been honest about it when asked, instead its going to blow up like this and spread like wildfire, because this kind of news/rumors is not official, therefore people are more fascinated by it by sheer nature.

I cannot believe that Ghosts of all games cannot run 1080p on Xbox One, what in the world happened? They must have hit some problem
It's a rumor, no one is right. No one knows except the people who made the game, if we based everything from a guess, that would be one screwed up world.

Pushing the ps3 back a year was the only thing Sony did right with the PS3 at that point.

I will never declare anything dead or whatever this early, shit I won't do it two years in (VITA!??!?!) but... I'm with you. If MS stepped back and said "Ok sony is coming at us hard, let's delay until 2014 and get this shit right" they would be in a much better position than they will be about a month from now when people say "I paid $100 more and fucking ugly ass COD looks worse!?!?!"

Could it even be in the realm of possibility that it could still be pushed to 2014? The console I mean. Has any device ever been delayed this close to launch before?

Its like people that never played fps games on pc. Remember going from 640x480 to 800x600 to 1024 x 768 etc?

Im at 1080p now because that's the monitor I have but holy shit, you see so much more objects compared to old games. You can never justify low res for fps games that allow long range firing

I'm finding it hard to believe it will be 720p on the One and 1080p on PS4. A resolution like 900p or some random number like what we saw games do this generation when they fudged 720p is what I would think but we'll see, hopefully sooner rather than later.

It seems like Digital Foundry will be my best friend this holiday.

no dude, they've already made too many Xbox One units for retail. They would never consider delaying it at this stage, no way

I look at this the same way I look at compression in music. Some people say they aren't bothered by poor mastering. But if you had access to a version of the album with no compression, and much better mixing..wouldn't you want the best version of that album? Why would you accept a worse version, if the option for a better version is available?

This of course is just an example, as often album's only have one version, and you are stuck with a poorly mastered record. I guess the way I see it, I don't see why people would want a 720p version of a game, that they know can be 1080p and IS 1080p on the other competitors system (and is $100 cheaper).

At this point, if you absolutely love MS first party title/franchises, I totally understand why none of this means anything to you. You are already sold on that system, because you want these specific games, and nothing will change that, okay. But for those that mostly buy third party title, and are flexible on what first party titles they love (so let's say you also like Sony's first party titles), I get why many would see this as a problem.
128kbps for $10.99 vs 256kbps for $8.99

I JUST DON'T KNOW?!?

They are already being manufactured and shipped to warehouses...It's a done deal man...

Pray for a short gen.

Even though I think ps4 is more powerful, we have no idea what the final specs are. Also rumors should be just that rumors, I don't understand why when it comes to bad news for the X1 it must be true. Wish some people waited to find out the truth about a rumor before going nuts.

Those who say the X1 is rushed, do you think most consoles aren't rushed? With what happened to driveclub, maybe PS4 is being rushed also. Easy to speculate and make up rumors, wish that stopped.

It's funny how GAF didn't react quite in the same manner when the first (few) rounds of PS3 versions of multiplatform turned out to be complete pony when compared to the "Xbox 1.5" versions!
Gaf hates the xbox....if any xbone game ever came out that looked better than the ps4 version they would have to shut down the servers for a week.

pretty funny all round though. ...im still getting both consoles and cod on xbone

Are you sure about this? How could you know? I mean

I can't believe it. This all has to be fake. No way both games release 720HD on xBone. They are both made using old engines. The PC counterparts are higher rez than that.

If CBOAT Utters it, let it be so.

Don't you mean if CBOAT "Udders" it? Get it? Udders?

Nvm, I really shouldn't be trying to make 'titfall' jokes this late...

Edit: Jesus, beaten. This thread is scrolling so fast my eyes are going to bleed.

Fixed.

I know all about Titfall. Cause I'm old.

Have you seen Titfall?

Still remember when I saw Titfall for the first time. It proved that everything I had been told prior to that point was just lies.

I'd normally agree with you, but Microsoft has lost so much goodwill with me over the last few years that it's getting really easy to believe rumors like these.

Join date can be deceptive. He could have been a long time lurker. Doesn't change the fact that he's wrong.

Maybe they couldn't make it in time with their 1080p/60fps promise.

Honestly I'm glad that it's delayed, it means that we'll get a finished and more polished product.

That's something that some companies need to learn how to do these days...

It's not really about CoD here- the NeoGAF crowd obviously doesn't give two fucks about that game. It's that this is actual proof that there's a significant difference in power between the two consoles, as opposed to "PS4 is slightly better, but XBone is close enough." This makes the $100 price difference look even sillier.

The next couple of years will show if the general public gives a fuck. But I can see "PS4 has better graphics on top of being cheaper" being an idea that manages to circulate from the "gamer" internet to the "normal people" internet.

Suzu from Raze? Area 52? If not, weird coincidence.

Yeah, that's me!

Albert and CBOAT in the same thread, especially one with news like this. And if true about Titanfall?

I can't see with all these megatons.

It's a good analogy. I'll wind up buying PS4 down the line but will probably still stick to Xbox One for multiplayer especially due to friends. I agree if I were just treating each system ONLY as a video game console and disregarded what friends had, the better version would always be the one I got. If graphics are that drastically different, my opinion of which to get could change but most people I know that game are buying Xbox One. (Saying of my friends here in the US, not total sales). Therefore my decision is pretty easy.

It's 60fps on Xbox One. It's just 720p.

Oh, I'm an idiot then. I'm wondering then if this is such a big deal though? Like, I can see the difference between 1080 and 720, but for the people that have been playing 720 console games, do you think it will make that much of a difference? It's got to be 900p for me or bust.

I JUST DON'T KNOW?!?

Lol. To be fair, I doubt most people care about music bit rates. I would just think as a consumer, you would want something to be the best that it can be if you are paying the same price as the better version. But just me. Like I said though, I do understand that if you are someone that is buying based on first party titles, you aren't really apart of this debate.

Didn't it happen when the ps3 version of gta iv had downgraded resolution? I remember it was the deciding choice for many as to which version to get.

No way. GAF was all over that business from day one. That year's Madden was a huge shit show on PS3.
