RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

At beginning of the year I never thought this kind of things would happen, especially with the Xbox.

Crazy times.

Not this year, maybe a couple years away. It is bound to happen eventually. I am interested to see if it is by Activision's folly or by extreme cost to EA. As it stands now I just don't see BF just taking CoD's popularity. BF4 is doing exactly what CoD has been lambasted for over the years and without a yearly release. Look at BF4 and try to tell me it isn't just iteration. Not saying it doesn't look great, but it is just a *little* better looking.

in my eyes, that's just more bad press for the publisher. I think the big guys are ok, it's the small sites that need to be more tactful with their reporting.

Blacklisting for sites at that level isn't about denying coverage as much as it's giving coverage to competitors. Suddenly you lose access you had before and you're bumped down to press packs and talking head interviews while your rival is doing exclusive preview featurettes.

I dunno, they seem to be trying some new things and, more importantly, this is the first time that the full experience will be available to console gamers. Previous console releases were gimped in comparison to the PC.

I don't like the Xbone either. All I'm saying is I'm not surprised people are sort of dancing around us when speaking to MS reps when we've been basically tearing the Xbone a new one for some time now.
 
This screams to me IW has terrible problems rather than anything else.

But lol at Titanfall 720p. No wonder Bish gone to bunker.

Because they're either in denial, or that they can't face facts that a $500 console can't perform Native 1080p games. For that kind of price, you would expect good, decent hardware, but what's hilarious about it is that Microsoft's competitor is already putting out Native 1080p games right now (both 1st party & some 3rd party titles), & their platform is $100 less than what Microsoft is charging for Xbox One.
 
No one should be surprised. Most people have been warning everyone to expect significant differences in multiplatform games from launch and it's about time reality set in. The Xbox One is not a legitimate generational upgrade and Microsoft's penny pinching needs to bite them in the arse for the good of the industry. The sooner people understand this, the better.

Move on, forget about this silly experiment, and force Microsoft to come back with a sensible strategy and appropriate hardware. Between Valve's endeavours to make PC gaming more accessible than ever and Sony designing a great high end, developer friendly console and selling it at a lower cost, no one is going to miss out by skipping this disaster waiting to happen.

I didn't read it all, but not that much has happened, right?

Apart from the fact that it would be quite a sore point for MS that the game isn't on par with the other next gen platform.

I guess I can rule out I played the game on Xbox One, but rather it was a PC. The thing looked really good and really sharp.

It's funny, but Albert said the exact same thing. I wonder why it is such a far fetched idea that MS or Sony doesn't know every detail of the games being developed for their systems. MS isn't developing COD or even publishing it.. what obligation does Activation have to them to keep them updated?

From the look of it, MS seems like a company that have just start it up. New baby, Not That big company we all knew and thought they will never make such stupid decision as this.

This is 2013, In about 3 years the cell phones/Tablet will have better spec then these consoles. WTF were they thinking. How can this console last for 10 years?
 
Wow i woke up to find a new 84 pages (sorry 88) thread with rumors and leaks! there is no way i have time to read all this before work, i feel like an outsider like i don't belong in here. Anyway i think we are way to late in the game" for this to affect the consumer.Its like politics we already picked our side and we're just arguing which one is the best. No one is going to change side. I dont even think the average CoD dude knows what 720p is and all the trutefacts in the world wont change the fact that they have their friend list, achievements and map packs first on the Xbone.

Anyway, I'm not being a particular fan of Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo (I'm a big fanboy of some developers though) this situation makes me a bit sad, as some old-fashioned gamer I grew used to discovering amazing tech each time a new console was released, but this time that won't happen.

PC is so ahead already that the "wow" factor, at least in my opinion, is not there anymore and I feel a bit nostalgic for those times when I first got a NeoGeo, a PlayStation, a Dreamcast.... I'd say maybe tools/drivers are not mature enough on Xbox One since CoD is not exactly the most demanding game out there at launch, hope this is the case here or Microsoft will suffer a lot through this generation. My plan is getting a PS4 at launch for Killzone (one of my favorite franchises) and Infamous (my favorite open-world games) then keep upgrading my PC here and there and eventually buy some Xbox One when the dust is all settled.

To be fair, Killer Instinct's 720p and Dead Rising's whateverthefuckp probably are Double Helix and Blue Castle problems.

But there's an obvious underlying factor.

EDIT: how does the certification process go? Wouldn't they receive builds as part of that considering these games are supposed to go gold soon if they haven't already?

Honestly I'd chock this situation up to the fact that the XB1 is much harder to develop for rather than how weak it is.

We've seen both Ryse and Forza running at resolutions > 720p and looking significantly better than COD ghosts, maybe there were issues trying to port such an old engine onto new hardware.

Disagree. People can say 'resolution doesn't matter' as much as they like. And I guess it is true to a degree.

But if Xbox generally gives you lower resolution games, and is $100 more expensive, that is a pretty simple message to put casual gamers off buying it. simply knowing that PS4 games are generally FullHD and Xbox isn't can be enough to sway fence-sitters. They don't even have to know what FullHD means - they are surrounded by FullHD and 1080p from TV manufacturers etc telling them that's what they should want

Plus there's still all the FUD out there surrounding used games. It seems like plenty of people are not fully aware of the change in stance on that issue.

There's just a lot of negativity surrounding Xbox One right now.

Everything that happened to MS this year is on them. That 2 weeks between their X1 reveal and E3 was filled with some of the most cringe-worthy PR quotes, mixed messaging and horrible brand representatives we have seen in the gaming industry in a while.

Why do people get pissed when gaf sides with the company that is doing the right things?

You should first look how COD looks in first place. IT looks like poo from graphical standpoint. I don't see why this game is 720p in first place when it looks like it look.

PC req specs also are crazy considering how it looks.
One poster already mentioned problems with ESRAM in production. Other one mentioned how IW is in trouble.

Biggest winner obviously is here Cerny. His approach to design of hardware gave devs easiest way to get things fast on platform instead of fucking with hardware that is there for fixing problems in first place.

I don't know how they still have any momentum. 100 bucks more expensive than the competition, significantly less powerful, can't get marquee titles to full hd, kinect only working in a handful of countries, and essentially confirmation that the OS and hardware were thrown together in a panicked response to sony's unveil earlier this year. Who the fuck is still buying this thing?

Let's be fair here, Titanfall isn't set to release until next March. There's plenty of time for them to try get Source running at 900p!
