I don't think anyone and everyone is going to get alts

At this point there's an outside chance of maybe one or two more

There was nothing strictly preventing Sakurai from doing it before so I don't know that anything drastically changes now.

Yeah, I can really only see it for characters where their looks are interchangeable. Generic characters like Villager are good candidates.

I definitely don't think they'll have separate characters as alts, like Marth/Lucina.
 
Gonna toss out some hopes that are actually the same character.


-Megaman: No helmet. Or maybe Quint since it's just Megaman from the future.
-Mario: Dr Mario
-Luigi: Mr L
-Peach: Shadow Queen
-Bowser: Dry Bowser
-Link: Ocarina of Time Link
-Zelda: TP Zelda (Assuming the default is moe Zelda)
-Toon Link: Outset Island Lobster shirt.
-Ganondorf: Ocarina of Time version.
-Samus: Prime version
-Pit: Multiplayer mode armor
-Kirby: No idea since it would conflict with the hats... maybe just more colors?
-Meta Knight: Samurai Meta Knight
-King DeDeDe: Samurai DeDeDe
-Villager: female Villager
-Sonic: Upgrades from SA2

Oh well.

At least Megaman is perfection. November is definitely a Pokemon reveal, but lets not forget that Sakurai likes to put on his troll shoes often.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai has invented some sort of method where his cat is actually the one who chooses the method.
 
Like I've said before, I don't think it'd make much sense hyping something like this if it isn't a general feature. With Wario, as soon as he was shown, they also made it clear that he was the only one getting that to avoid that kind of false expectations. The format this time is different, but I don't think it'd make sense to tease something like this, only to follow with negative information for the full reveal.

Well, this time he's working with Namco's teams, which are generally very costume happy. It wouldn't be that strange for them to influence him.

A lot of people are suggesting stuff like Daisy should be a Peach costume and Raichu should be a Pikachu, but that means that you're playing as a different character. I don't think we"ll get alts if the announcer guy has to say "the winner is Dixie Kong" if you're playing as Diddy Kong.

They're likely recording two sets of voices for the Wii Fit Trainer. Adding some extra narrator announcements would be much easier in comparison. Yeah, they've never done that before, but we've also never gotten a costume that changed a character that much before either so they're clearly going beyond previous barriers. It's true though, that there's still no proof they'll go beyond the "name" barrier, but I don't think it'd be that far fetched at this point. They've been teasing people with things like the whole orange hair/yellow dress Peach for years. If they're doing alternate costumes now for more than a single character, why not go all the way?

Ah, but Alberto what if the man himself wants to add it now hm?

Perhaps Namco has suggested this since they're well known for their alternate costumes in the Tekken games non?

For all we know Wario was merely a pioneer! and now the time to strike the iron as it is hot has begun!
 
I don't know how Mario would have Dr. Mario as an alt when Dr. Mario uses pills. I think any costume changes would mean that their moves would be identical, so I could see Male/Female Villager, Male/Female Pokemon Trainer, and Alph/Brittany/Charlie/Olimar as likely alternate costume characters.

They very easily could just recolor the fireballs into pills and just give them the same properties as fire balls.
 
All I know is that if the Project M team can make a special engine to make Brawl have alternate costumes for various characters, I certainly hope Sakurai can put the same effort into a game built from the ground up.

And while getting additional dialogue from the narrator would be easy, and while I really want Metal Sonic... having separate characters as alternate costumes doesn't feel like something Sakurai would do. I feel it would run up against his want to keep the characters distinct, and he may feel it doesn't do them justice to just have them as a color selection.

I think it would be really neat if every character had an alternate costume of some sort and we could unlock them in various ways, but I'm not really holding my breath for either.

But pills don't bounce the same way fireballs do. If you have and pills in your house, pick them up and toss them at a hard surface. Then take some hairspray, spray a bit in your cupped hand, light it with a kitchen lighter and flick the fire at a wall. See the difference?

Just do a match in Brawl of Pikachu, Kirby, Mr G&W, and Yoshi

Heck Mario rides Yoshi all the time in his games and doesn't care who sees him do it, he even let Peach go for a ride at the end of Super Mario World

I'm usually naked when I play Smash though.

Also yeah, Male WFT model-swap is great news. At the very least Villager, Pokemon Trainer and Mario (for Dr. Mario, naturally) should get similar options, considering Wario was the only character with a costume option in Brawl.

I wonder if Epic Yarn Kirby would be a good alt for Kirby. Though the aesthetic wouldn't jive at all with Smash U's style.
 
Donkey Kong wearing a bow tie would be a classy alt.
 
Yarn Kirby would be a lot of work for an alt probably but it would be awesome. Yarn Yoshi would be great too.

Pretty sure we'll be seeing a yarn stage at least.

Nothing is really impossible. You realize that Sakurai has all the technical abilities, right? Moreso than Project M's team, and they successfully made an alt costume mod that works exactly the same way we except for the MWFT. Sakurai would just need to have the interest and the time to implement the idea.
