Yes, Sony has been seeing all the articles referring to their launch lineup as "thin" or "weak", so announcing new games would be seen as a very welcome surprise by many.

These lists are great but you guys need to take in to consideration the sheer amount of reveals you are hoping for.

I'll give you a $100 though if they come true.

if there's anything to be least worried about in a playstation console, it's the games. seriously, look at the past three generations spanning 18 years. no playstation device lacked games.


also, that touchpad for point-and-clicks? finally.

From a marketing perspective, while it may seem like somewhat of a waste to announce new stuff at those times, at a what is essentially a pre-launch event one month before VGAs, it makes sense from a few perspectives.

Firstly, the gaming media attention attention on 14/15/16th would be practically 99% PS4, and no amount of marketing muscle from the competitor will be able to shake that. If Sony has enough games to keep for VGAs and still announce something before that, this is the best time of the month. It also dazzles the launch, since PS4 arguably is weaker than Xbox in terms of first-party exclusives, and a dazzling showcase of what's coming one-day before launch can really tilt that perception.

Secondly, assuming there's a megaton for this event, this is arguably the best and last chance for Sony to drop a 'cancelling my (Xbox) pre-order!" bomb to basically sway the very minor fringes among whoever's planning to pick-up both, but are going XB1 at launch first over PS4.

I know, a lot of people on NeoGaf know but remember PS3 got that reputation of not having games? Then after Gamescom and E3 you saw people in a more mainstream crowd, and even on NeoGAF shitting on it for the indie focus, which is completely stupid but lets be honest that not everyone is going to buy a system for indies. I think they just want to manage the reputation of the console a bit better this time around is all.

I've thought about this and We should keep expectations low, So i'm thinking they'll only announce 3 games:

Final Fantasy 7 Remake
The Last Guardian
Shenmue 3

Really don't expect much here just 3 titles maybe and they're not exactly going to sell gangbusters like a CoD would.

And TLOU PS4, Sony announces buying Crash back from whoever owns it and announces a new trilogy, Shahid announces 10 JRPGS for Vita/PS4 crossbuy, and GT6 PS4 HD is teased.

probably in 2006-2007, but even then it still had uncharted, heavenly sword, resistance, lair, haze, etc. which were all new ips.

since 2008 (mgs4, valkyria chronicles, littlebigplanet, etc.) ps3 has been putting out games. 2 years out of 18 years. does not warrant the label "no games" at all.

the point of the indies is not one indie=system seller. the point is indie games give the consumer more incentive to go with ps4.
