Is there even a Smash fan who is pretty much a fan of every game being featured in it and is knowledgeable about each? I mean, I don't even like most of the featured stuff in Smash - only thing I am a diehard fan of is Pokemon and is a fan of Star Fox and Mario.
With that said it's pretty interesting to see how opinions are formed with regards to that. Stuff like how people have no idea how Pokemon works, how Star Fox works, etc. by others in the Smash fandom is hilarious.

I'd say I'm a fan and knowledgeable about every franchise featured besides:
Game and Watch - Haven't played a Game and Watch/Collection.
Earthbound - Haven't gotten around to playing any of the Mother games yet.
Ice Climbers - Haven't played Ice Climbers yet.
*raises hand* Well, almost. Funny thing is Smash Bros. is one of the biggest reasons why I'm so into all these Nintendo games now.
I'm diehard for Pokemon too. I don't really know if Pokemon fans come in a different flavor. I'm just a plain fan of SF, Mario, Zelda, FE and Metroid. If Capcom got a Monster Hunter or a Felyne in instead of Megaman I would've been a diehard in two series
Edit: but I have played or tried everyone of them besides G&W and ROB
I thought I was familiar with most of the franchises of Smash, but thinking about it there quite a bit I've never played... I've never played Animal Crossing, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Ice Climbers, Game&Watch and Wii Fit. Also, my only Metroid game has been Other M (but I liked it) and I don't really like Sonic games. Despite that I think I have an informed opinion on how those franchises work and I plan on trying some of the franchises I missed when they get new releases or through the Wii U VC.

Me too. I don't understand why lately they are making Link so... sculpted, plastic surgery like? It's ok for him to look androgynous, but this design is kinda bad.

Ice Climber is a fun game. Once you get comfortable with the jumping it can be fairly addicting. I always wanted a sequel on the DS, I thought the dual screens would work well with the vertical platforming. My wishlist is in 3D now though.

Ice Climber multiplayer is a surprising blast. Screwing your friend over by jumping into them in mid-air is hysterical.

Ice Climbers is an awfully controlled, clunky game.
It's one of my favorites of all time.

Like all the games in the Smash games. Played Game & Watch games since I was little, played Earthbound on SNES back then, knew about Fire emblem and bought the first one when it finally made it to the US....
Heck, I like all the Smash games too. I see them as celebrations of Nintendo franchises, more than anything. So hitboxes, slipping, speed and how Brawl was "slow and sucked" because of that; don't mean much to me. I'm just happy with getting a new game with slightly improved visuals, classic songs remixes and more characters.

I pretty much like everything Nintendo. Favorites I guess are Zelda, Mario, and Metroid.
+1 for the group who became more invested in/approached more Nintendo franchises because of Smash. It's been like that since Smash 64 where I knew DK, Mario and Pikachu but never knew what the fuck a
Metroid, Link or Captain Falcon was before hand.
It's also another reason why I don't agree with the "we have all the A listers already" brigade. How about some spotlight for the falloffs, neglected and the one offs?

I agree, smash did so much for introducing or getting people interested in other nintendo games that I wish for the new smash they would give us more characters from more obscure titles or lesser played games. It's a celebration of nintendo yes, but also a great way to educate and promote more nintendo games to the masses

This is how I feel. I know the controls are absolutely atrocious, but I love the game soooooooo much.
I totally agree. I would love to see a lot more classic and obscure Nintendo characters in Smash. Little Mac seems pretty sure now, though I wouldn't say he's that obscure.
