Well, the important piece is here:
During his hospitalization, Vasquez’s wife, Sandra, is believed to have documented his status on a public comment board at TXMMA.com. She reportedly wrote that Vasquez underwent surgery to remove a blood clot that was not a result of the initial injury. This has led to speculation that Vasquez may have had a pre-existing condition.

According to the comments posted, Vasquez then suffered a second blood clot, fluid on his brain, brain swelling and a massive stroke that induced a coma.

Sounds like its only indirectly related to the incident (who knows what caused it initially?) and blame cant be placed on the sport entirely.

lol that ain't going to stop the Bill O'Reilly's of the world from blaming mma for his death. they should investigate if they gave this guy a physical before the fight. doesn't the athletic commissions require every fighter take a physical before each fight?

Apparently a mod at the Brazilian forum is claiming Tim vs Nog is signed for 81. There's gonna be a lot of upset people that day cuz this fight will go like Tim vs Monson and there's little Nog can do about it. Nog's striking is a lot better than Monson's but the almost k-1 status his striking takes on on the forums is fanboy talk. Tim's striking is more proven in competition where he out-struck Andrei and Vera. I like Nog but he has ok take downs and Tim has good sub defense which all just makes this a bad match up for Nog. Yet, Nog will undoubtedly be the 2-1 favorite in the betting lines due to the combination of his fans and the Tim hate. So I'll suggest to anyone that's going to be upset when Nog drops a decision to Tim, to make up for it by getting their money back and then some by betting on Tim.

I guess that means Randy turned down the Nog fight then =( Still Tim vs Nog should be a good fight, really hope Nog picks up the win though.
Did anyone catch cage rage last night? Great fights and free live for the UK'ers with Sky :D

“I just got a call from Chuck Lidell. Chuck is finding himself in a position where he’s famous, because his sport has grown in popularity so rapidly. All of a sudden you have a posse and you’re going out to dinner before your fights and not working like you used to. He’s not as hungry as when he made it. We’re just starting the journey with him to find out what drives him.”

- Motivator/Public Speaker, Tony Robbins

I... i dont know what to say.
Makes me wonder if Chuck is done.

Chuck is going to get axe murdered.

In other news, Sherk's suspension has been reduced to 6 months by CSAC. Does that mean someone fucked up and now Sherk is going to sue the athletic commission for legal fees, loss of employment, sponsorship, defamation, etc.?

so hopefully we can see bj penn tool sherk in about 6-8 months

Sherk is cleared to fight as early as January, but with Penn/Stevenson in January, we're probably looking at April earliest... so yeah, 6 months. :(

And thats why I hate him. So far in 50 minutes of title fight he hasnt come close to finshing either of his opponents. Its just saddening that the most exciting division in MMA has the most worthless champ of them all.

speaking of blankets, i really dislike that guy Tommy Speers on TUF6, the new Jake Obrien lol

i prefer tommy speers over that big tall dufus he beat. ben saunders i think is his name, he's the tim silvia of that division.

What I like about Tommy is that he seemed genuinely pissed that he didnt finsh Ben. Unlike Sherk usually just smiles like a gap toothed retard and blames the fans for not liking his boring fights. Plus Tommy has much more room to improve and anyone who has seen his WEC fight knows he has KO power.

Still I hope he doesnt make the finals. He can improve unseen on undercards just as well.

I've seen Spears fight live a couple times (redneck MN!) and he finishes most of his fights quickly. He's not a blanket if he beats the shit out of you after he takes you down.

i'm just basing my assessment of him on the 2 fights i've seen him fight on TUF, which have been text book lay and pray affairs

maybe he couldve finished saunders if he was more active or busy

at any rate of the 2 fights i've seen of him, i hate this type of fighter

I fucking hate watching sherk fight. He's nothing but a blanket.

I like Ben Saunders and his shit-eating grin on TUF6. I think he got stunned and overwhelmed, but Ben will return!

i didnt watch the show but i guess its tommy spears vs. mac denzig in the finals.

so george lost to spears, but what happened in the other fight? did mac not have to fight because that other kid went home for some reason?

Aoki, JZ, Penn would all tap Sherk inside two rounds. Sakurai would also probably dominate him but I highly doubt he can make 155 anymore.

Ben posted on the UG that he wanted a rematch with Tommy. He said he gives him all the credit in the world, but his sinus problems took there toll.

george looked as sloopy as ever (yeah, i know he was a favorite, but i never saw it in his fights this season), and mac ended up fighting john kolosci again when matt arroyo cracked a rib in training. i was hoping for mac to get to destroy ritchie, but it was obvious he didnt want to take that fight :D

He didn't actually crack a rib

Hughes and some other fighters wrote on there blog that Dana got them all together and told them that nothing was wrong with Matt, that the doctor found nothing wrong with his ribs before the fight and Matt was full of shit.

yeah, i just saw that and came to post it.

so Matt was scared to fight Mac then huh?

they shoulda brought back that crazy guy from episode 1 or 2 who broke his arm and still wanted to fight.

What? Why would he lie about it? What kind of bitch do you have to be to lie your way out of a fight on a reality tv show? I mean, isn't that what he went there for?

i dont remember exactly how it played out, but i thought the doc said his rib was cracked and had deep bruising. maybe it just showed the doctors office visit and matt summed that part up, i honestly dont remember... i'l have to double check.

i find it kind of odd that that talk with dana didnt make the show though...

either way, as matt himself said on the show, he felt he wouldnt be able to fight to his fullest and believed he may get even further injured. maybe it was all in his head, or maybe it wasnt, but either way he was already defeated.

walking out of this fight was worse then a bad showing in his fight though.

EDIT: rewatched it, all the doctor info is reported in an interview with arroyo. i imagined the doctors office visit i guess (i had no reason to doubt it). gotta feel bad for the guy if true. this = career suicide as far as dana is concerned

I plan to watch tonight but I haven't been watching TUF 6 (cuz of the move to wednesday) so I have no predictions. I'm going all in on Guida at mmaplayground though. The fight is a toss up but Guida has slightly better odds. Guida is more proven but Huerta's standup is better and could be the difference in the decision. If I'm lucky, I could hit top ten for the season.

Roger Huerta
Mac Danzig
George Sotiropoulous
Ben Saunders

and the prelims:

ya considering huerta has only faced tomato cans in the ufc

if it goes to decision i see clay getting jobbed

Been watching a little of the TUF re-reruns today, and I caught the most recent one on Wed. Is it just me, or is Tommy Speer a freak who could be a real force if he ever gets some technique and conditioning?

Danzig is going to 155 after this fight.. win or lose.

George probably too.

BTW
Turns out the UFC did strip Sean Sherk of the the title.

Yeah, and he has the sweet last name as well. Too bad his personality is about as vanilla as it gets.

looks like we now officially have the first ever reported MMA death.

wonder what kind of impact this will have on mma. this will definitely be problem in states where people want to regulate mma.

Sammy was a nice guy. Sadly, I only got to meet and "roll" with him a handful of times. In fact, I just found out he died today (I've been away from the dojo for a month+ and honestly don't follow MMA much). It was kinda surreal. It's too bad I didn't get to know him better.
