Marth returns as veteran. And then we get a New Challenger Appears trailer with Chrom. A few weeks later we get a screen shot with "Marth" from the back with Chrom facing him.
The caption reads "Chrom confronts Marth, but is it really him?"

Well, she's a new character with Marth's traits. Sure, she's not Marth and not a veteran but still, I think that it's similar to Lucas and Ness case, but this time the two of them are almost the same. Imho, it would be the ideal to replace Marth with her.

The FE1 Remake was a dissapointment so I hope they go with FE3 or Awakening.
Honestly, after seeing the Ironfall demo which renders 60fps 3D twice and once in 2D with over 21 Ai on screen, I see no reason Ice Climber's won't be possible.

I like the Heroes of Light and Shadow design, but I am not too fond of the Shadow Dragon look.

I was ok with Wolf but didn't really play with him much. I actually didn't play with any of the Star Fox characters much now that I think about it.
I would have preferred it if ROB didn't have the role it did in SSE. If it was a quirky final unlock and presented as such it would have been far more fun.

Ice Climbers are one of my mains as well, so I'm right there with you. I'm 100% sure they're safe.
Let's not kid ourselves, Marth isn't going anywhere. I also highly doubt Ike would be absent, and wouldn't be surprised to see Roy return. (not that I would want him back anyway)
My dream line up for Fire Emblem in Smash 4 is Marth, Ike, and Lucina. Sakurai could very well include 4 Fire Emblem characters though provided he brings back Roy. (I think Marth, Ike, and an Awakening character are locks) As far as Awakening characters go, Lucina is probably the way more popular choice and I'm rooting for her.
The only thing going against her is that visually she looks like Marth, and also Chrom is actually considered the main character of Awakening. I actually wonder who Sakurai will decide on, as it isn't entirely clear cut which of the FE:A protags he will choose. Again, Chrom is the main character but I don't think he would drop as many jaws or cause as much excitement as Lucina who is probably the choice of the fans.

I think Fox is pretty fun. His game is basically get them to 100% and then bait out an Up-smash
I damn hope so. No reason why Smash 3DS should be gimped or create a cut roster.

I really do think Lucina resembling Marth so closely is going to keep her out as her own character. Maybe Masked Marth as a Marth costume like male Wii Fit Trainer, but outside that, I don't think so.

To be fair though, Chrom doesn't really have that much of a visual distinction either aside from his white cape. Personally speaking, if they really wanted to separate the Awakening character from the current FE characters in Smash, I really would hope that they would pay homage to Awakening's support system. Having Chrom and Lucina as a pair like Ice Climbers, and being able to choose who is the "lead" character would be a surprising move that would help to distinguish them from Marth and Ike. Hell, that could also be used to add more FE characters to the roster if you can swap out your support unit ala Pokemon Trainer.

Also, I thought Ice Climbers was one of Sakurai's favorite characters? Or am I imagining things? I doubt they would get cut either way.

Yeah, Chrom on his own doesn't really bring anything new to the table, which is unfortunate. A dual character might be able to work, but with the way Sakurai has spoken of certain characters being difficult because of the 3DS version, I have to wonder if adding another hard to make partner mechanic driven character would even cross his mind.
I really don't know what to think about Fire Emblem. The only certainties I feel are Marth coming back and Ike coming back (not as certain on that as I am of Marth, but I have a hard time seeing him leave if Toon Link didn't). I am unsure what the future will bring.

lets save our 'cut snake' talk for a fighting game that doesn't actually NEED characters with such awesomely varied and fresh movesets people. For real. Lets talk about cutting Lucario, Wolf or Falco (give Fox dat Shine), Toon Link etc. to make way for fresh characters or characters more relevant to the current state of their IPs first. (Well shit, then we'd be cutting Star Fox out entirely, wouldn't we.) And please bring a Ganon rehaul or don't even bother

Lucina doesn't really look much like Marth outside of Awakening. The design is such to make a plot twist believable, Marth looks different enough in every other incarnation to make it easy enough to differentiate between the two of them. Not that I am saying I want Lucina or anything.
