Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

3 starfox characters were planned since melee >_>
Uh, no. Not at all. In the original plans for Melee, there was only one Star Fox character. Falco was only added after they made the decision to add clones. Wolf was supposedly briefly considered to be used in place of Falco, but at no point in the game's production was there intended to be three characters (and I have never seen a source for the Wolf claims).

Anyway, I'd like to speak a bit of the links to the game pages at the bottom of the character pages of the characters confirmed since E3. You know, the "Want to know more about XXX? Check out the etc." things. Olimar's links to Pikmin 3, Sonic to Sonic Lost Worlds, Toon Link to TWWHD, Luigi to M&L4.

Marth's profile links to the Fire Emblem Awakening page. So what does this mean for future Fire Emblem reps? Actually, pretty much nothing: check Marth's page on the Japanese version of the site--it links to the FE3 remake's page, not Awakening.

Also, for people to looking to the release of Super Mario 3D World for a character reveal--you might want to check Peach's profile again. When Peach was first added, her profile did not link to any page. But that has recently changed--her profile links to the Super Mario 3D World webpage as of now, on all versions of the site.

So I would not look forward to a reveal on the SM3DWorld release date. And no, I wouldn't expect a Zelda character reveal that day either--A Link Between Worlds does not release the same day as Super Mario 3D World in Japan; it releases over a month later.

So just a heads up.

I have a pretty good feeling about getting Ike. He has his own moveset, and I don't think they'd just junk a character that they have figured out already.

Plus, I felt like Awakening made a lot of references to Ike, more so than other lords. I feel like he's popular internally.

Not as many as Marth, but, yeah, IS seems to love him. In the DLC chapters, they went out of their way to say that Ike was the strongest lord.

Super Promo Bros.
As if that wasn't why it was greenlit in the first place.

Dang surprised we actually got another character reveal. Sakurai, stop throwing darts at the calendar!

I wonder when we're going to start seeing new characters. Spring maybe? Or perhaps a new character reveal in December?
I'm calling Toad because something something Mario 3D World.

Personally, I'd expect a newcomer the next time Nintendo makes a "next year overview" direct, which might also give some information about other features of Smash. I don't think they'd wait for E3.

Yeah, with the HD twins coming in they need to convince buyers to get a WiiU sooner rather than later.

Yeah that's why I pointed out my prediction that we could get a batch of newcomers at December Direct or E3 2014.

If they keep doing this yes. FE has a huge roster of heroes. Marth is not Mario,Kirby or Fox to their series.
He's easily the closest thing though. And they have been using Marth as the face of the Fire Emblem series in Japan since the beginning over twenty years ago. You might want to get used to it.

1) apparently they were, that is how wolf got in.

2) wolf is way different, and Falco is differentiated enough to be a Ken.

3) People like star fox characters, why is you not liking something should limit another. Its not like ridley where its a thematic issue.

I personally think its more Sakurai bias. I'm not just talking about moves. But actually arsenal set as well. A moves personal don't make a difference to me. Lucas and Ness had better differences than this trio. You can tell they were added JUST for "MORE STARFOX!" Starfox truly is all we need to represent that series and what it stands for with everyone else cameoing in the stage or through a final smash. They truly are pointless and I say this with every character I want in the game already.

I like Marth but this was a chance to move on from him. Lucina carries his legacy same as Chrom.

I don't want you guys to get upset with my opinion but that it is what I think.

None of which are even remotely as popular as Marth. Hell, most of Awakening's advertisement was based on "Marth" IIRC.
Thanks for making my point. I am making a case that this was a great chance to move on from him because FE:A.

We're not upset, it's just a terrible opinion. Awakening doesn't erase the previous twenty years of Fire Emblem history.

Exactly. In how many FE games, has Marth appeared?

He was the main character of fire emblem 1, 3, 11, and 12. He was story important in 2 and 13 being referenced by several characters in 2 and being imitated by Lucina and himself playable as dlc and was the only unique class dlc. His character has either been the main character or had important influence on almost half the games in the series including the most recent three. That's not even counting the fact his games got an ova adaptation and he's appeared in 3 smash bros games in a row. Marth has and always will be the poster child of Fire Emblem even if he himself is not mentioned or appears in the next game.

Why Marth now?

What's the significants of him today? Is there a game starring him with an anniversary?

There was no significance to peach announce either. They should have announced marth when peach was announced and then peach announce nov 22 when SM3DW is released, but whatever! :)

Peach just so happened to fall on the anniversary of super mario bros. through

Why would you want to "move on" from Marth though?

There is no moving on to be done, he represents the Fire Emblem franchise as a whole, Lucina has been in a single game in which she isn't even the main character.

Like some guy said above me, Smash isn't just some flavour of the month game, it's supposed to be celebrating the history of Nintendo, and Marth does that for FE so much better than Lucina ever could.

Marth was main protaganist in the first, and his game was remade twice. And he's also be in several others, correct?

It's safe to say he IS the Mario of his series. The differences being the game is named after him, like the other three. And the franchise tends to branch off and focus on their lineage and world, rather than a single character each time.

Marth looks incredible; he's miles ahead of his Brawl model.

Agreed. Looks better than all the others so far IMO.

Well Peach was announced during Super Mario Bros Anniversary, so it was significance enough. Marth's was just a nice surprise from Sakurai.

They're saving Zelda for Nov 22, obviously!

I really hope so, but someone pointed out that Zelda 3DS release date for Japan is in Dec as well.

Sakurai Bias might lend itself more to kirby, Earthbound, And KI ( not the Rare beat kind). But sure, lets pretend we know what sakurai is bias towards

Lucas and Ness had better differences than this trio.
what?
Wolf's Almost has a completely different move set.

People wanted another star fox character, wolf specifically. Wolf litterally got in to please people. So yes they were added for " more star fox" because people wanted more.
Their stages lend themselves to cameos also those cameos I believe were in melee.
And they are worth something to someone, your opinion is not the end all be all.

I like the Starfox characters, Fox and Wolf make sense being in the game and Falco is just too good a design to not have in the game, honestly don't get it when people say he should be removed because of some magical slot his removal would free up.

That's exactly the opposite of your point. They could have used any other mask/identity to hide Lucina behind - they indeed had the chance to move away, but they didn't. Proving just how much more important Marth is than any other Lord from Fire Emblem. He always has been the posterboy of the series and he always will be.

By appearances lords in Fire Emblem

Marth: main character 4 games, playable as unique dlc in and has story importance in 1, also has story important in another game, also in anime adaptation of series and playable in 3 smash games

Ike: main character in 2 games, story important in 1 (awakening dlc). Playable in 1 smash game

Leaf: main character in 1 game, playable in another game

Roy: main character in 1 game, very minor character in another game, playable in 1 smash bros game

Hector/Eliwood: main character in 1 game, minor role in another, useable in bonus maps in 1 game

After this every other lord only appears in one game as playable (alm, sigurd, cecile, lyn, micaiah, and chrom). Lyn would be ahead of these characters due to being an assist in Brawl.

I never got this logic. Games that didn't use Marth at all or referenced him directly (FE4-10) didn't make Marth disappear, so you expected that it would happen due to a game that used "Marth" in the marketing(all the early marketing hid that it wasn't Marth himself under the mask), was a sequel to his games with returning characters, and had Marth himself as a cameo character?

If anything, Awakening, with its ties to many previous FEs, seemed to show that IS was trying to solidify the franchise, giving it a more permanent image and ties between the games (while still making them mostly standalone), not do away with the past and focus only on the "now". They could easily have changed it to focus on a completely new mythology, but they chose to make it a sequel to the Archanea games.

Come next time they make a FE with a mostly new cast, without Chrom and Lucina as mains (something very likely if they want the marriage or generation system again), they can still use and reference Marth as the symbol of the franchise, something that wouldn't make sense for Chrom or Lucina.

Their stages lend themselves to cameos also those cameos I believe were in melee.

I don't think Melee had spoken cameos for the Star Wolf members. Just their ships and Wolf in the opening.

Nobody posted the watermark-less version, as usual

I could be wrong, I might be remembering something that happened in brawl.

Yeah, the Starfox characters already had full conversations in the Starfox stages from Melee, it was just the Starwolf ones that weren't there and were only added in Brawl.

Right here's what the roster is looking like so far.
I'd be thankful if someone could find me some of the updated looks for Toon Link, Sonic and Marth.
