He seriously just removed the hard drive, booted, shut it down, put the hard drive back in and booted it back up and it worked.

Erm, removing your hard drive is not standard procedure to get into safe mode.

It was a long shot to be honest, something finicky was going on with the hard drive until the firmware could be triggered to go into safe mode. It will need to be fixed.

The HDD got messed up when he cut the power at the wrong time.

Removing the HDD, turning the system on without it, turning it back off, and reinstalling the HDD reset and revived it. This would probably work for OP of this thread too.

Yeah this information would be very useful should gaffers run into the same problem.

took out the HDD then put it back in, problem was he switched off the console While DC universe was downloading and it corrupted the data.

OP replaced the drive, I don't think he tried to start it just by removing the drive. That could be the difference.
