Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

Hey! This is my first post here =] I've chosen to do it among the Vitabros, as you are the coolest community this side of the internet.

I hope we can play lots of Soul Scrifice and Dragon's Crown online, and share tears and smiles over the course of life of the best handheld ever <3!

Any VitaGAF from Brazil? I'd love to use the bump on friend's list by adding some Brazilian dudes to play with (or anyone who can put up with the lag from the distance and bad ISPs over here).

Where did you got yours? I'm from Brazil and I'm still looking for one that doesn't cost a kidney and a leg. D:

TOP OF PAGE RECOMENDATION: Buy Tearaway and Soul Sacrifice... is what I would be saying if I had a Vita. Oh, also, sign PS Plus.

Did... emulation get worst? Tekken 6 is chugging along with like 20 fps and milliseconds of measurable lag. Street Fighter Alpha is definitely running along sub-15...

I don't know what you consider "a kidney and a leg", but it's somewhat easy to find Vitas at R$ 800,00. Maybe with some luck you can find it for R$ 700,00 or less.
It's well over USD 200 even with today's rather high exchange rate, but you know how things are here.

Memory cards will take the rest of your body, tho.

Never did finish Edgy Sacrifice. I think I got up to the last chapter and got bored of the game.

Will try it again when it becomes free this month

I received my Vita today. Finally caved to all the remote play hype. I was half expecting to regret my purchase only a few hours after getting into it, but I've been left very pleasantly surprised.

First, it's comfortable as hell. I often suffer from cramp trying to use the 3DS but with Vita, it's perfect. Nice and weighty and the buttons/sticks are positioned adequately enough. The OLED screen is gorgeous to look at, the UI is sort of average but it works, and the games look great. Also, whoever designed that D Pad, I want to take them out to dinner.

Not perfect though; when I found out there's no support for multiple accounts ala PS3/4, I was gutted. Very stupid decision and equally as bizarre. Have Sony ever explained this?

The battery is typically abysmal, but I guess that doesn't come as a surprise. Overall, pretty happy with my purchase. Lets hope Sony keeps up the good games.

welcome! glad to hear you're loving your purchase....most people dont complain about the battery life - obviously it could always be longer, but you can get a healthy dose of gaming in. it definitely drains faster if youre using some high performance games ( which you may be and thats why youre noticing a short battery), but i think the battery lasts pretty long. at least when its in standby mode it barely even drains...

the d pad is a thing of glory though. best d pad around.

I bought it when I traveled abroad; can't help ya =/
Don't you have any friends who could bring it to you? Plenty of my friends asked someone to bring it. You could even order it from Amazon and send it to their hotel.

That would be some major bullshit.

it would, but at the same time I wouldn't say it would be unexpected. The games offered are still some of the better known titles, and e3 2014 would be a decent time to add killzone and tearaway to the line up to make a splash.

despite the number of smaller quality titles on the vita this year, there haven't been very many big titles that would look good in ps+ trailers to move consoles. (plus one of the bigger titles is already going free to NA plus users this month so it would be odd for it to be included in the year thing now.)

im pretty sure the EU blog said it wasn't happening in DEC either, at the earliest they will change in 2014. hopefully we don't have to wait all the way until e3 next year.

I came over to VitaGAF to get away from scary ass ConsoleGAF. It's insanity out there. No word from SCEA though.

Giving away Tearaway 6 months or so after it launches doesn't seem likely to me.
We've seen shorter windows, sure (Soul Sacrifice), but in those cases, it's usually to drum up interest in the newer version of the game coming. So I'm not sure we'll see Killzone either.

Welcome. I find the Vita the most confortable handheld I ever had, I didn't even need a grip.

its been confirmed that they arent happening in nov. - no date has been given elsewise

They may want new PS4 users to grab those 2013 yearly with their new PS+ subscriptions. Then change the game in January or February. It would be a fairly good strategy, IMO.

Of course, it could simply be that they don't want to change those games.

Maybe they just said it because they don't want to scare people from buying games and maybe those guys from the blog don't even know anything. Sony has been pretty great with the IGC so far so it doesn't make sense to anger their fans with a change of their IGC practices.
LBP and PSABR are very good substitutes in my opinion. They could even have included Soul Sacrifice, another high caliber release, if they hadn't released it monthly and a third party game is also an option (e.g. NFS, AC3: L). There are enough good games to pick from.

Overall, it doesn't make any sense not to change the yearly IGC. The only reason I can think of is that there are still too many PS+ bundles with Uncharted and Gravity Rush advertising out there.

sooooo for anyone looking to pre-order digitally Tearaway in NA...they aren't allowing it - but they said that if you buy it digitally within the first week you get teh preorder goodies i believe.

Don’t forget there’s still over a week to pre-order Tearaway and also secure our Special Delivery pre-order bonus items. Week one orders at the PS Store will also include the bonus items so those who prefer the digital version will not miss out! This bundle includes the audiolicious Tearaway soundtrack, exclusive skin for the in-game rideable pig that includes a special printable papercraft plan to match. There are also splendiferous iota and atoi character avatars for use on PSN along with a fun PS Vita wallpaper. Oh, and for those who have LittleBigPlanet, you may be interested in the fun iota and atoi character costumes for Sackboy!

Hey all. I've been a ghost round these parts lately. Jobs killing me, so I can't gaf at work, and when I'm at home for some reason GTA:O runs my life. Just wanted to give a heads up that I may or may not have deleted you from my friends list, purely in error, but also in haste during war in GTA. Soooo with thi snew fancy pantsy PS App, you can go over the 100 person limit even without a PS4 (it seems so far, I'm at 107), so I will be blanketing ALL of VitaGaf with FR's. If we were once friends, but you find out I deleted you, I'm truly sorry! Please understand, don't hold it against me :D

You had better not have deleted me.

Tried to work through my backlog because my new card is already full :D

Who was that guy here heralding Superfrog? I just played the game again after a long while and got frustrated within 15 minutes. That second world is just bullshit, so many leaps of faiths (I saw the markings, they don't help) and an overall annoying level design combined with the strangely floaty controls are just too much. I felt like the Angry Video Game Nerd.
World 1 was ok and I had some fun with it, even with the weird controls and oldschool/backwards gamedesign but world 2 is just bad and I am even playing the new levels, not the original ones.

I grew up with an Amiga and can't remember playing Superfrog or Alien Breed but had very fond memories of the platform so I bought those games. Maybe there was a good reason why I can't remember these games because both remakes by Team 17 suck.
I don't think I'll give the game another chance again any time soon.

Afterwards the weirdest thing happened to me while getting back to VLR. I stopped playing because I was stuck at a secret file puzzle. Naturally, I didn't know what to do after such a long pause of playing so I just typed some random numbers in and solved the riddle in my first try :)
Strangely two beginner trophies popped up which I already got. I hope the escape room counter didn't reset somehow because I want te platinum, heard it was easy by just playing the game? I didn't delete the game or do anything to my Vita at all.

I just got my 32gb card for $60. Now I'm ready to download games. I'm getting Tearaway fursure, but what other games do you recommend.

-I want a game that's RPG. Something classic that will remind me of games like "golden sun", good story and gameplay.

Persona 4 Golden is all you need.

Obligatory P4G/P3P post.
I hear the Atelier games are good. I have Totori Plus, but haven't put much time into it.

Thanks I'll look into that.
Also I don't have a ps4 yet, but is it worth getting the 1 year membership for the PS+ if I only have the vita?

For me, it's totally worth it. Some will even say its mandatory for a vita owner.
Also, you can get the PS4 free games from the web store and they will wait for you, when you get a PS4.

For some more games you can look at Muramasa Rebirth and Dragon's Crown. Two really great games, with rpg elements.

Yeah, I just got the 1 year membership, this will make me get the ps4 faster lol
Also for the RPG games, any games that are free currently? Because after buying the Vita+memory card+membership, Right now all I want to do is play free games to make me feel better about spending all this money :) lol

it sounds like it!! see above^^^^

and call me crazy - but I think I like first week bonuses more than pre-order bonuses.

woohoo!

and same here.

Gravity Rush will keep you busy until Soul Sacrifice goes free on the 26th. Sprinkle Wipeout races and Hotline Miami levels in liberally. You'll also get Oddworld next week for some pew pew pew action.

Cross-posting between SonicGAF and my own Twitter feed with some Tearaway demo impressions:

Got to play a demo of Tearaway while I was out. I was really on-and-off about it when it was first announced since I'm not the biggest fan of LittleBIGPlanet, but I actually found Tearaway was a neat little surprise. From what was in the demo, it basically confirms the assumption I've had since E3, in that it's more of an adventure game with some platforming elements than a pure platformer. Most of the mechanics seem to be set around the interaction between the real world and the game's world; I wasn't even able to jump until the end of the demo, and I honestly found it rather gimped and not very useful for any really engaging platforming. Part of me thinks the reason everyone labeled it as a platformer was due to its aesthetic. Speaking of its aesthetic, it's really good. Unlike what some people say, it doesn't look like an N64 game. The colours are nice and vibrant and the presentation is very crisp, kinda like... well, paper. It actually reminds me of another game I played on the VITA called Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery. Same vibrant colours, same woodland environment, albeit with a different art style (vinyl figurines). The thing that surprised me the most was actually the demo's implementation of the rear touch pad. Unlike with most titles for the VITA, it actually felt rather natural, but that may just be because I have rather long fingers therefore I don't have to adjust my hands to much (not so much with the actual touch screen stuff, though). If there was anything I thought was kinda "eh", it was probably that the squirrels talked too much and some camera stuff, but that's pretty much it. Unfortunately the demo unit I used didn't have audio so I couldn't listen to the music, which sucked because I was digging the music I've heard in videos, especially the vocal stuff. I may actually end up having to pre-order the game; I wants me some sea-shanty dubstep. Also, atoi > iota. She's just so adorable and has a much better design.

Thanks I'll look into that.
Also I don't have a ps4 yet, but is it worth getting the 1 year membership for the PS+ if I only have the vita?

PS+ is pretty much a no-brainer.
Subs can be had for $30 on Black Friday.
Besides, not only will you be required to have it for PS4 multiplayer eventually, but you will be able to stockpile all the "free" content in addition to getting wonderful features like cloud saving on Vita.

It's manadatory if you own any Playstation console. :P
If you own two or more, you'd have to be crazy not to get it.

Your observations on Muramasa and Dragon's Crown aren't technically incorrect, but I personally wouldn't recommend them to someone who wants an RPG to play. You do get stats and leveling in DC, but really don't get a story. You don't really get into the stats as much in Muramasa but it has a more complex/involving story. And both of them do not have core gameplay in line with traditional RPGs. They're great games, I love em both... I just don't think I'd be steering people looking for RPGs toward them. ;)

Hehe, fair enough.
That's why I recommended to "look at" them, and not necessary "buy" them. ^^ I would even add OdinSphere to those recommendations, but, unfortunately, it's not available on the Vita (or, at least I'm not aware of it). :)

Injustice is fun enough. Playing through story mode... that's really all I wanted: to brawl through a Neatherrealm version of DC animated DVD flick, since I loved story mode in MK9.

Game's not a real looker, but I'd say it's better looking than MK with that Bluepoint-style softening all over the in-game models... although I'd give the edge to MK in speed of play. I haven't checked out the other modes I saw, but it doesn't seem to have nearly as robust a suite of features as MK Vita did.

Agree with the other poster yesterday who said the cutscenes have that Sega Saturn film grain. No biggie... in fact it kind of lends itself well to my goal of collecting a niche, doomed system :P

Tried playing Flower in bed last night with the motion control... doesn't work laying down lol. Pretty cool to see it on Vita, though.

corrosive isn't wrong, but yeah... native Vita rpgs are slim pickins right now, and even in the PSP offerings a lot of the best stuff isn't straight up JRPG... it's strategy, dungeon crawler, first person, hunting, action-rpg/Zeldalike etc. I'm normally a real stickler for genre classification, but it's harder to pigeonhole games these days, and I've gotten used to Vitagaf thread being really lenient with their recommendations, so I just go with it.

I'll probably piss off some people by saying this, but I cancelled my PS4 order a few days ago(before the reviews and everything hit). Not enough games interested me, and my 3DS is taking up a lot of my spare time. I'm holding off on getting one until more games come out, like Infamous. With my 3DS I waited until significant titles came out and it's what I've done with the Vita so far. To be honest very few Vita titles really caught my eye.

That has changed with Tearaway. Love practically everything I've seen about the game, and I'm strongly considering selling a few things or using credit to finally get a Vita.

I've missed the recent Radioshack deal, so does anyone know about any upcoming Black Friday deals?

I would look on craigslist, man. It might be tough to find one that hasn't been abused by an idiot, but people are desperate to get that next-gen upgrade money. There's still idiots who think they can get the same amount of money for their used systems as they paid for them new, but I've seen a few people with the sense to lowball themselves in order to expedite the sale and increase the likelyhood of getting a buyer.

Saw a WiiU on there the other day for $110 with a pro controller, NSMBU, NintendoLand, Skyward Sword and a couple of the new black wiimotes... it was already sold, sadly.

I don't blame you. TBH only Killzone looks really good, and I mostly just want to experience the graphics. Get a Vita, then once the PS4 library is stronger, pick one up and enjoy that remote play goodness.

I expect we will keep seeing good Vita deals in the months to come.

Okay, I am off to the Phillipines in approximately 12 hours (sucks for me and the PS4 being delivered).

Any way, I already purchased Lone Survivor.

So I need the help of the Gaf Vita Bros™.

I have narrowed it down to either Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles or Muramasa Rebirth.

I shared earlier in the thread when I asked about recommendations, I am not a fan of RPG's pretty much at all. So does this mean I will absolutely hate Muramasa Rebirth?
It seems to me to have better combat than most RPG's, I cannot stand turn based combat and it does not seem to have that.
I absolutely love the visuals on it, and to be honest, it seems like it almost has some roots in a Castlevania type game. Or am I totally 110% off with that comparison?
I love the original Castlevania games, also big fan of Metroid, so pretty sure I will no doubt enjoy X Chronicles.

Just for quick reference of my tastes, it is all over the place. I know that does not help, but so far my favorite "larger" games have been both Raymans, U:GA, KZ:SF Hotline Miami, SSD, NFS: Most Wanted, and Wipeout, in no particular order.
I already own a ton of indy smaller games as I listed a few pages back, so no need to suggest those. It really is about the two games I narrowed it down to.

So please brothers, I seek your advice.
As you may know, there is also a $20 difference in the digital versions of the games, so while that is not necessarily a huge concern, if based on my tastes it seems as if the cheaper game will no doubt suit me better, than that is great.

TIA, DL

I'm assuming you've already played SotN, but Dracula X Chronicles contains the entirety of SotN as a bonus, as well as Rondo of Blood. That's 3 games in one and a pretty good value.

If for some reason you haven't played SotN, then Dracula X 1000 times over Muramasa, just for the SotN part.

Thanks for the impressions, PhantomOfTheKnight. About the lack of platforming, hopefully there is more of that once you can jump! Seeing as that was only at the end of the demo I'm guessing it uses it more afterwards. I heard the audio was good and liked what I've heard so far. Just hope it has a lot of content although I know that may be asked too much these days.

Angry Birds Star Wars sold 400 copies at retail in the US. ahahahaha

oh, and that price drop was super ineffective SCEA y'all just lost $50 off the 25k units you would've sold anyways

^ Nice >:)

Not looking forward to getting reamed with PS4 digital game prices in EU. First time I'll want a big console with mostly digital games - for the remote play convenience.

Wait. The retail games install to the drive right?

Does anyone know if they need the disc in to activate them? I'm guess they would yeah lol that's dumb, everyone would just sell it otherwise. Guess they cache not install anyway. llaammmmeeee

Dracula X is a must for any old-school Castlevania fanatic. You can't go wrong if you like that type of game.

Muramasa is not an RPG.

It is a 2D action game, in the vein of something like The Dishwasher games on XBL. Hack and slash at it's best. Frantic fast paced combat that can be difficult. The variety comes somewhat from enemy type but mostly from forging new blades to get new special moves. The only thing RPG about this game is that after killing so many enemies, you gain a level. This is only a mechanic to allow you to get more life as enemies get stronger as well as provide a mechanism to prevent a player from forging blades that are too powerful before they should be.

In a sense, it's as much of an RPG as the Zelda games or any other video game is. You're playing the roles of Momohime and Kisuke... ;)

I own both.
I love both.
For value, Dracula X is the better buy.
But if you like either game genre, both are solid games.

Got me playing the demo again, it is a lot of fun. Will get it as soon as I can and hear that the patch got released for the lag in some later levels - it's not out yet right?

The slowdown isn't bad and the only times it really pops up is in levels where the dead are restless in my experience. Check with EsotericManiac... he could better comment on it.

I saw this link on reddit that gives Spelunky tips in gif format:

I did hear people say that but I saw this youtube video, which looks pretty bad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlDnrVq7_uY

Really hope it gets fixed. The daily challenge would be pretty cool to have as well, really enjoyed that with Unit 13.

I think the reason that video looks bad is because that's one of levels that I heard lagged...and ontop of that the ghost is out which causes drops from what I've read as well. Still.

Not entirely sure what you mean by dead are restless btw :P
