Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Mario has been pretty bad in all 3 too.

Only really in Brawl. 64 he's actually pretty high up there, I think, and Melee he's mid tier iirc. So, no, not nearly as bad the track records of Yoshi, Link, and Samus.

Though really, 64 in general is an outlier for any character because it's the smallest roster of the three games and its insane hitstun/shieldstun -- almost any character in that game can look amazing.

Wait, do people actually think Miis will have customizable movesets? If I've ever said I expect or want Miis to be customizable, I was referring to their appearance alone.
Relevant old post I stumbled upon:

Miis where you can animate their moves so they can be the smash version of this please.
...but I think it'd be more like this classic, honestly.
Slow-motion crotch grab is the Final Smash, clearly

Post Genesis Sonic music is like someone shitting in your ears. I can name maybe 5 tracks that are actually good, and even then they aren't as soulful as the Genisis tracks.
I'm just going to repost the same response I gave to SuperSah a few months ago, because it's still appropriate.

I had too much fun on my Wii U and I'm afraid I might be suffering from temporary withdrawal at the moment.

But I'm here for the pic of the day.

And you shall recieve greatness.

It?

Yoshi is the manliest man in Smash. Not even Kirby with beard reaches Yoshi's levels of manliness.

Please, even Marth is more manly then Yoshi. And she's a girl!

People still refer to him as 'he' even though one of his main powers is to lay copious amounts of eggs. That's pretty manly.

Isn't it asexual? I shall consider it an IT forever. :P

Fun fact: Yoshi was originally supposed to be Mario's horse before sprite restrictions made him a dinosaur.

This is incredibly weird to picture in my head lol

A dinosaur honestly fits in so much better with the Mario world.

And the reason why Yoshi can transform into a dragon is due to the fact that Dinosaur fossils have historically been believed to be dragon bones, and thus the two are associated with each other in Japanese media. It's why the pokemon Tyrantrum is part-Dragon.

It's probably just going to be another shot of the galaxy stage. I honestly don't think we will be getting any newcomers through the daily pics, only veterans so I predict we'll get Zelda on friday.

Guys, just say R0ckman post.

Anyway can we get a twofer? Rosalina and Zelda, or maybe even Zeldalina/Roselda

What if Shiek is cut and is replaced with
Hilda
:O

For a minute I thought you meant Hilde.

Best fighting game character ever, IMO. Makes no sense, but I'd be down with that. Haha.

Some things are just fate huh? A plumber riding a horse would have been plain stupid. But a dinosaur? Genius.

Heh Im guessing you got a hang of her charging technique? I couldn't really use her but I've seen what players could do with her. So deadly. Cassandra is more my style.

A lot of those are all over the place though. For video game tracks I like things that are catchy and have a simple tune enhanced by modern instruments. Like I can remember a lot of Mario Galaxy tracks such as the main theme. In these new Sonic tracks a lot of it is just a mess of fusion. They have the same problem with Sonic music that they do with Sonic, they tossed away foundation to keep him true to himself and do just whatever the hell.

They did try to get back to that with Lost World, which I appreciated, too bad I couldn't stand the game.

Sakurai seems to like classic stuff. I don't know why he does the opposite with Sonic, he includes Mega Man and focuses on his classic aspects. I guess Sega has him to use all this new shit. I just want more classic remixes.

Guys, just say R0ckman post.

Hmm, Whatever helps ya sleep at night, I guess...

Not even the best female from that series, but still a great one :p

I did want a SoulCalibur representative when I first heard about the collaboration, after all Link did magic for that series. Although to be honest I can't see anyone working, the only Namco fighter who would fit is Mokujin (He will instantly become my favorite).

I actually disagree with that, since most of the tracks I listed have very noticeable lead melodies. The Sonic series has been very good about that, really; better than many games I see listed for "best soundtrack" year in, year out.

Ah, this one's actually really easy to explain.

Licensing.

Licensing out the ass.

See, the first two Genesis games were composed by Masato Nakamura, a member of then-popular (perhaps still-popular, dunno) Japanese band "Dreams Come True". Sonic CD had a popular Japanese vocalist, Keiko Utoku, do the main themes, "You Can Do Anything" and "Cosmic Eternity" (the US version's "Sonic Boom" songs didn't use a big-name singer, AFAIK, so they're exempt). Sonic 3 & Knuckles is probably the worst offender, because who composed what is a gigantic legal clusterfuck; while a good chunk of the soundtrack was composed internally at Sega this time, there's also the well-known involvement of Michael Jackson and his crew, including Scirocco and Brad Buxer (the latter of the two being more important, I think, given his involvment with The Jetzons, and the recent discovery of how this 1982 Jetzons song so closely resembles this popular Sonic track).

So basically, the games everyone knows the best are kind of off-limits, because Sega has to pay licensing. Given this, it makes total sense why Sega likes to represent Sonic in spin-off media with Sonic Heroes's Seaside Hill instead of Green Hill (as they've done in both All-Stars Racing games, Sonic Dash, etc) - they 100% own the music for that stage, don't need to sign contracts to reuse Green Hill's music, and the stage was basically designed to evoke as many memories of Green Hill as possible that it works as a Green Hill stand-in. I think Windy Hill was designed in a similar sense, hence part of why it's showing up in Smash 4.

I certainly hope Sakurai et al jump through whatever legal hoops are necessary to use older music as well, since I love a lot of that. I mean, they did for Brawl, given they used Green Hill Zone proper and not Seaside Hill like Sega likes to use. I just don't particularly mind if they use a lot of more recent music, too, because I absolutely adore their soundtracks.

Man i was so with the recent character model updates like Peach and Marth I am getting really excited to see the updated look of Zelda/Sheik and Capt. Falcon!

I agree with Intelliheath from the last page, I have a sneaking suspicion that the game is a bit further along in development than a lot of people suspect and that makes me very excited but also possibly set up for disappointment.

Finally, I really hope that a lot of the characters that haven't gotten much love as far as competitive play/tier lists go get some love and buffs this time, namely Yoshi, Link, Samus, and Kirby. I find it really funny that Sakurai doesn't give the bigger, more recognizeable characters for competitive movesets, expecially because a lot of people will choose them simply because they are their favorites. Seeing those one post about link getting the meteor smash shows that he is playing around with buffs of older characters.

That's basically how I am with the other vet characters, marth was my most pumped to see updated and sakurai delivered, I actually wonder if shiek will be back or would it be SS impa

Yeah it's a really shitty situation with all Sonic's licensing problems. Not getting Sonic 3 rep'd in Generations made me rage hard.

I hope he'll get the music too. They did a fantastic job in Brawl.

My guess if we get a character reveal this week, is that we'll be seeing either Zelda or Yoshi. Maybe even a Mario newcomer.

But I'm assuming Zelda. I know he's gone by Japanese release dates so far but maybe he'll just go by first launch this time.

But I am 72% anticipating a reveal sometime in the next two weeks!
