Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Snake's side tilt is pretty disjointed too, but it's the up tilt that is really notorious. That and Peach's Utilt.

But I hope he focuses more on just annoying stuff like Meta's tornado.

Isn't the concept behind the move fault in that case? Hitboxes and Dmg seemed fine to me. Only dat range.....

Wait, are we talking his knee thrust attack? Because the range on that one is the only one I remember being really crazy. I also remember neutral a-air being wild, too.

Oh, should have clarified. I was talking about MK's Tornado :D

Oh, well I think we can all agree that move was insanity. Yeah, I don't think the damage and hitboxes are the problem, it's the move itself. The fact that you can move it across the stage after you start it is the biggest problem, IMO.

For tornado they should maybe look at startup time and priority. It would be easier to deal with if you had more options to interrupt it.

The real issues with the move in Brawl are the following:

1) It's impossible to SDI out of it (this is because, I think, either the SDI multiplier for it is really really low or the hitlag multiplier, I forget which, but I'm 80% sure it's SDI multiplier that's super low). Fix this and it's escapable ezpz.

2) It clanks/clashes with moves -- of all the moves that should have had the laser priority on MK it's this move. Having laser priority (meaning a move that cannot clank with anything) allows every single move in the game to trade with it (so long they are quick enough to coming out or have really good hitboxes). A move like DK's Bair could barely get through MK's tornado in Brawl, but with this change, it would always go through it. It blows my mind this was acceptable (the fact it can clank with moves)

Fun fact: the above changes are what Project M did to MK's tornado (obv there's more done to it but those are two very core issues P:M fixes and part of why the move isn't OP anymore).

3) The duration of the move is insane, it should've been way shorter.

4) The mobility of it is crazy, less mobility would make it easier to punish instead of being able to 'nado someone's shield and then move away a few frames before the move ends leading to MK getting away unpunished. The way tornado's current mobility is forces players to stay in their shields the whole time.

To compensate for all those changes, you'd have moves that allow MK to set up into the tornado to make it worthwhile. Sort of as a move that you'd use to give chase or as a finisher to a combo for extra damage.

Sakurai's stubbornness was the real reveal to me last night, and with this new information about the balancing, I want Smash to be pushed to 2015. He needs as much time as possible for such a big task, I don't want another Brawl situation.

But I want to play a MP WiiU game in 2014 besides MK8.

There's always patches, at least...

Sucks for him, because everyone else at Nintendo is embracing them. I'm actually willing to bet that we'll see a major patch for Smash For. sometime in its service life.

The ad hoc development team causes another issue. Who would even develop the patch?

Assuming Nintendo retains full ownership of the final code (and I'd be surprised if they didn't), HAL could probably maintain it. They're pretty buddy-buddy with Namco right now anyway, so I'd be surprised to see that team completely dissolved.

By the sounds of it from that article, Namco is developing tools to streamline things. So maybe it will be relatively easy to patch? Wishful thinking, I know.

I have no doubts that Nintendo will own the Smash code, and there shouldn't be any hardware excuses preventing a patch, but this particular scenario would be a first for Nintendo. It isn't impossible, but we really don't have anything to compare it to.

I do like the idea of HAL maintaining Smash, assuming that some of the Melee team is still there.

Is it wrong to be paranoid that Zelda/Shiek won't return? They were my main/s in Melee and Brawl but I just have this gut feeling, y'know?

Sakurai don't fail me now!

Zelda/Sheik will be back, and they will be more twilighty than skywardy.

Zelda is in for sure and they I highly doubt they'd boot Sheik at this point.

Zelda's really fun to use, hope she gets a sufficient buff this time.

Whenever you wake up, you'll have a surprise left for you. :D

Well, I expected to see random image instead of a character reveal in the morning.

Since today would be marked two weeks ever since I won the avatar bet so it's time for a victim to release the terrible avatars and rejoice with the avatar of his choice. I would like to honor two avatars with a moment of silence.

I get the sense that 4chan is corrupting my friend's view of the Smash series. He was complaining to me about gimmick levels after the Galaxy stage was revealed. He played Brawl for years, and his favourite stage was Spear Pillar.
