Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Is it confirmed Villager, Megaman & WFT will be starters though?

Wii Fit Trainer and Villager are more likely to be starter characters tho. By the way, I edited my post to add a point that we might have a full roster at the beginning. It would be weird to not have any characters to unlocking.

Edited: Reggie teased that they might be at VGX, so I'm hoping that they could show a trailer of Super Smash Bros at there. Snake is most fittable character to be reveal at VGX.

Lets start weekend gaf off with something different. Made this fake for fun :P

You're killing me.

Every character will be locked at first. Except Mario. You'll need to play at least 1000 times as Mario to unlock a second character.
Luigi.

Aw man, Melee was the only Smash game I didn't know any of the secret characters when I first got it, so when the "Challenger Approaching" screen blared at me, there was genuine intrigue and excitement because I didn't know who to expect.

I say I'll try and refrain from spoiling myself when Smash 4 releases but I know I probably will, or have some dolt ruin it for me. Here's hoping Nintendo go water tight with Smash and its distribution, and we get an international release this time.

No matter what, I absolutely won't be spoiling the hidden characters for myself this time. I'm really hoping the American release isn't too far off from the Japanese release.

Yes please, international release!

Good luck with that. There are too many people that would intend to spoil other people's surprises. That's why I'm hoping for international release date for all countries.

It'll be tough, but it'll be worth it. Playing Smash Bros. without knowing who will pop up sounds glorious.

Piggy, you will get your due and it will be glorious. Besides in that past 3 weeks, didn't I show you the batch of 3DS shots? O was that alonger time? :o

Oh no, I meant as in actual pic of the day with captions. Those 3DS shots just appeared then got removed from their FB page.

Yeah, I definitely agreed with you there. I already planning to try my best with media black out but I have a good feeling that we might get international release date. I HOPE

That was physically impossible for me with Brawl considering the six month gap between the Japanese and PAL release.

Good lord was that awful planning on NoE/NoAus's behalf.

Is anyone else hoping all of the cut Brawl characters make their way into the new game? I really want Mewtwo, Plusle & Minun, Toon Zelda, and Dixie Kong. And, honestly, I think a Luigified Roy would be a much more exciting addition than Chrom. There are a bunch of comments from Sakurai that make me feel like he's seriously reconsidering the cut characters:

Nintendo Power: Were there any characters that you really wish you could have included, but weren’t able to for whatever reason?

Sakurai: Of course there were some characters that we couldn’t include, but we’ve decided that we’re just not going to talk about them. [Laughs]

”As far as design and planning and that sort of thing is concerned, I feel like anything I’ve considered I’m probably going to think about again when or if another game was to come out in the series, and so I’d like to kind of keep a lid on that for now, and not disclose anything I’ve been thinking about there.”

In an interview that features in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine (out on Friday), Sakurai said "It's taken over three years to make Brawl but I actually stopped trying to include new ideas early on in development.

"What happened in the next year and a half was that we distilled the game down, worked out which ideas we had time to include and which we didn't. Sadly, we had to trim out many great concepts just to keep within the time constraints. I had a lot more characters, for example.. but sadly I can't discuss which ones didn't make it."

Kotaku: I know that you can't talk too much about the characters that will be in the next game, but for previous Smash Bros. games, have there ever been characters that you wanted to include but couldn't figure out a good mechanic for them, like a way to fit them into the game?

Sakurai: Yeah, there's been a lot of instances like that. For example, there are places where we planned to have a character but then implementing that character just didn't work out. Or we wanted to implement some character but there was too much overlap with other characters from the same title, and it didn't work out. Or there's places when I wanted to implement some character, but the image for how it works in the game just never comes to fruition.

Kotaku: Could you give some examples?

Sakurai: Unfortunately, I can't talk about it, because what will happen with those instances in the future is something that is still up for debate.

Hope they treat this like Pokemon and do simultaneous releases.
Well even a week or two gap would be bearable enough, but Smash is honestly the longest I can remember having to wait for a localized version of a game that was already in English. Was living in the US when it was probably worse for SNES/N64 games.

Guess it helps I was busy with my final year of highschool when that huge Brawl delay happened.

I think at the very least Mewtwo and Dixie Kong are a done deal. Don't know enough about Plusle & Minun, but I guess it's an easy way to represent the generation between the Gen 1's and whatever gen Lucario's from. I'm indifferent towards Toon Zelda, though 'Toon Sheik' (fuck you this was probably Tetra, Smash wouldn't just 'invent' a character) would be cool.

Though if Chrom doesn't happen, I feel there's no way in hell Roy would. Marth/Ike/Chrom/Roy all in one game would be neat though.

A Wolfified Roy would be even better. C:

I think Dixietwo are safe bets.

I wasn't sure what to call it. Basically, Roy with reanimated attacks. On the official Melee site, Sakurai said the design concept behind Roy was "youth and inexperience." It was tough to get that across as a clone, but if his attacks were less graceful looking this time around it would really help set him apart from Marth.

How about a Luigified Mario?

Incestuous...

Ghiramim or Skull Kid > Toon Zelda

I don't want Sakurai to rely on the toon well when there are still oceans to explore.

I'm sure if you Google it, you will find a picture on the web. I think there is an OT dedicated to that sort of thing.

I would like more wrestling moves for bowser.

Village you're into weird things.

I got what you meant. Lol. Since Wolf is the one who is far less of a clone, he'd be better example from Luigi.

Marth and Roy, would already have different B moves. Looks and properties. Just have to differentiate him a whole lot more. Well and the counter since that seems like a staple for the FE characters.

Well, I have a feeling that the characters that he were talking about aren't brawl cutout characters since they were almost got in the game. I think they are referring that they couldn't find a move set, mechanic, etc for those characters that Sakurai are interested to see to happens. I have a hunch that Villager is one of them. I'm looking forward to see other characters that Sakurai didn't managed to put in the game. Maybe it could be Nintendog since Sakurai mentioned it as well in old time.

I would like to see Mewtwo, Roy, and Dixie Kong to get their chance as well.

It's likely been brought up here already, but Reggie has been confirmed to make an appearance at Spike's VGX this year (a rebranding of the VGAs). So it's fair to expect some sort of Nintendo-related announcement. Thinking about Spike's audience, Smash seems like a decent contender for what they'd present at such a show. So... get hype?

Snake would be the best character to showcase for that audience, especially since MGS V talk is almost a given. That'd be a good way to capitalize on the hype of the event. As for new characters... Maybe Bayonetta? Pair it with a Bayonetta 2 trailer for good measure?

Dixie doesn't have as many moves, Diddy took a lot from DK64.

inb4 Falcon counterargument
Her ponytail would dominate the majority of her move set; she could have hair sweeps, slaps, and pokes. She'd probably even utilize her ponytail in her grab. It's also worth considering that Sakurai invents fighting styles for a lot of the Smash Bros. characters. Pit's dual blade stuff was created specifically for Brawl because he didn't do a whole lot in the original Kid Icarus. All Zero Suit Samus does in Zero Mission is fire her blaster horizontally, so Sakurai gave her a plasma whip. It really doesn't matter how many attacks a character has in his or her source material so long as that character represents something unique -- in Dixie's case, that would be her hair. Nobody else in Smash Bros. attacks with their hair.

Technically Sonic did. Down + Grab, I think.

I'm not sure if you saw my post here or other two threads but yeah I'm hoping to see Snake in Smash 4 announcement trailer at VGX. I think it's perfect place to do that.

I'd love to see a Smash Bros. announcement at VGX, but Sakurai has complete control over marketing and I don't know if he'd care enough about some American TV show to give them a character reveal. It'll probably be a new Tropical Freeze trailer or something. I still say it's more likely that Smash Bros. shows up in a Nintendo Direct next month.

Are you pretty sure that Sakurai have complete control over marketing? I'm not sure if I heard differently for Luigi's reveal. It's obvious that Sakurai don't really care about American or European events or release date since we didn't get Zelda today, so I'm pretty sure that Japanese release date would get Zelda instead.

Yeah, I can't wait for next month's Direct, if not then Jan Direct.

Smash at the VGX

Willy the Hillbilly reveal incoming.
