Live countdown to major Persona team announcement from Atlus [Summary in OP]

So they're broadcasting this live across several public mega-screens across Japan?

How can this be anything other than Persona 5? Surely the cost and the pomp and ceremony precludes a minor or trivial announcement?

It has to be Persona 5 at the very least.

It'll be a new Pachinko machine.

Japan loves Pachinko machines.

No and that's why it's taken them nearly 3 years to show off a new Persona game

Wonder if they plan to get as much mileage out of this engine as they did with Nocturne's assets. In that regard, cross-gen may make sense as Persona 5 is only being announced -- not even released -- at the tail end of this generation and having also everything updated and ready for PS4 (?) will set the trend and hopefully we can get Persona 6 earlier than it's taking for us to get Persona 5.
Though I'm obviously getting ahead of myself here

Most likely. (Maybe Sega will even make them port it to PC)

I would be happy if they ported it to the PC, but I know that's likely not gonna happen. Also, is Atlus well known for their PC games? The people who made Dark Souls never made a PC port and at its initial release, it was pretty bad.

I'm surprised at how often people overlook it, but there was just as long a gap between P2 and 3 as there ultimately will be between P4 and 5.

Sure, they changed creative leads, but it's clear that when these guys need to upgrade tech, they take a while.

And that's not even accounting for Catherine. It's taken forever, but I think it's understandable.

Guess I'm setting my alarm for 5:50am and watching it then. I did the same thing for GTAV on PSN when I wanted to set my background download to install.

I don't believe they have the resources to build a cross gen game.

The difference is that Persona is profitable now, so the gap seems weird. Especially given that they rereleased the entire series during that gap.

Good point. Maybe they'll give PS4 the 'FES/Golden' treatment a year later then? But that's leaving the Vita behind (which is an obvious candidate for that kind of treatment). Unless it's PS3/Vita for the original release.

Indeed, still, if that's their way of compensating for the 'delay' then it has actually worked as anticipation for P5 has been building up for a good while.

Lets hypothetically say that Atlus had the resources for a PS4 version.

Would they even need a handheld version of Persona anymore since the Vita could just stream off the PS4?

As much as Id love to see a PS4 title, Id be happy with P5 on Vita, P4 golden was awesome, all I'd really like to see is better dungeons (really the only weak part of P4 IMO) but even that couldn't bring down the game.

They were still able to make multiple enhanced versions of Persona, SMT4, a new engine and Catherine during the period between the original P4 and now.

And I'd imagine most of those weren't as costly production wise and were needed to bring in enough revenue to keep things running and continue funding longer term development.

I'm hoping for Vita, but I'll take anything.

They should make it a PS2 game, for shits and giggles. Everyone would freak out. "We haven't abandoned the PS2 yet! You thought it was crazy to release a major PS2 game in 2008? The madness had just begun!"

Still got my original PS2 just in case. XD

That's certainly possible. I just think that they probably wanted additional time to develop P5 given Hashino's comments about wanting to do something new. So, P3 and especially P4's success would've been something to give them that additional breathing room. It would also seem odd for them to spend money on a new engine if they were in such bad financial shape. They could've just stuck with Gamebryo if that were the case.
