Destiny: Traditional "very directed" campaign story; entire solar system explorable

This heavily increases my interest.

Now... please make it good.

You don't have to worry with Bungie. Bungie is incredibly good at one thing, at the very least - world building. This game will be absolutely fantastic where that is concerned and since that's a main driving point behind this game then I feel that this game is going to be amazing in that regard.

I'm guessing each world/level will be a decent sized sandbox environment, but you're right.

Yeah, this is the one disappointing/worrying thing about this game - this should be a true next-gen installment dedicated to that hardware. This game should have released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC only. Instead, it's Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, and PS3 with PC missing.

joke post right?

The game has no subscription fee.

Not a joke at all. I really think the future of games is going to be behind lots of extra paywalls, unless consumers speak with their money. An always online world with dedicated servers has to make money somehow. Bring on the pay walls and microtransactions.

I feel as though I always have to worry. It is not easy to make a great campaign. It takes a lot of resources and know-how. Not even Bungie has always been able to make it happen. It takes more than world-building... encounter design is difficult... so is writing.

You can tell they have been cooking this game up in their heads for a damn long time.

I think it was started right after Halo 2? Or maybe even the original Halo. Whichever Halo was the last Halo Jason Jones was directly involved in was when this game was starting development.

I don't feel like I have to worry with this game. Where I feel Bungie messed up in terms of writing, encounter design, etc. was in the sequels to Halo. Halo: CE, however, was almost perfect in how the world was introduced, written, and its overall gameplay sandbox was fantastic. So, essentially, I'll start worrying when Destiny 2 is about to release, but right now I'm pretty confident in this first installment.

Is there 3rd person perspective support in this game? Just interested. It looks so good though. Can't wait for its release.
Yes, but only when you're walking around in the hub world, i.e. "The Tower" area. Here can upgrade your character, customize, shop, encounter other players, etc.

That's actually a pretty smart way to utilize a different perspective.

I feel like this is the most anticipated game of 2014. Not a mecha shooter. Say what you want but if I want a high scale being budget game that I can gladly spend $60 on and get the maximum experience from, it will be this one. It's so underrated in the media and not gett the right attention it deserves. It upsets me that something this detailed and huge is being disregarded and a lot about it isn't out their besides this.

Okay? I can understand microtransactions, but I really don't understand where the paywall idea is coming from considering they've been constantly saying there is no subscription fee.

slightly more interested in this. Let's see if exploration is actually worth a damn insteada being a dreadful boring arse samey stuff, as it usually happens in these cases

Soon they will learn. Prepare to set foot out in the Frontier. Their Frontier.

Instead of proper scifi look for attachments for weapons, they use modern looking scopes and holo-sights /facepalm. Weapons at least look nice.

EDIT for all people expecting Destiny to be big: Remember it is a cross-gen game, made with previous-gen limitations in mind most likely.
I thought Destiny was always made with next-gen in mind.

With regards to the former half of your post, I think in general the gun/armor design is a bit lacking. Even customizable Halo armors had personality in the lower numbers. The loot aspect has REALLY taken a toll on the design IMO. Combine that with the removal of quirky weapons that made Halo special like the Needler and I'm pretty disappointed. It's almost generic IMO.

I'm excited for Destiny and everything, but the guns and levelling system don't do a damn thing for me. Maybe it needs more exposition, but the feeling I'm getting usually doesn't go away when you figure out more. I figure they'd be more confident about this.

Why am I seeing all these "hype level rising" posts?

It has a "directed, cinematic" campaign. How is that good news? I always assumed it had a pretty free-form, exploratory campaign.

Options are good.

It's non-news though. They phrased this differently a long time ago.

It's pretty clear that by "planet" they mean "a single location on a planet". It's not going to be Mass Effect-style exploration.

It has not got much coverage in the media because there hasn't been a playable demo to try and Bungie and Activision have been extremely cagey about what the game actually is. Read the Eurogamer interview they did with the Bungie guys a couple of months ago. It's kind of a long interview and still Bungie managed to not say anything at all about what the game is.

Activision for sure will do a big marketing push as the game nears completion, then you'll see the media talking about the game.

btw, the game still sounds too Borderlands-ish for my liking. I need to know more about the game (Bungie some concrete clear info please) before I get any hype for it.

I like directed...

..but since this will not come to the PC and having to get a subscription to play a game I already bought is insulting my intelligence, no thanks.

I removed the SP from the title since it's not so much singleplayer as it is an online-connected campaign mode that you could play alone.

True, I asked them once for a Bungie mail sack, whether us "lone wolves" could go it alone and Deej wrote yeah, while they want us to play with friends, people can play alone if they want. But I think they'll be outliers in this game. I wonder if there will even be an option for people to tackle those huge public events alone, or if we HAVE to have other people attack with us.

Destiny doesn't require a subscription.

Now that there is such confusion about the terminology of online vs offline play, I suggest the following.

Single player: offline play in the tradition sense
Solo play: the ability to complete content in an online game without the need of help from others

Oh my!!! Reading the OP has me so excited! It is easily my most hyped game I just cannot wait!! Hopefully the beta is nice and early!

This has not worked well with MMOs in the past. That doesn't mean it cannot possibly be done, but so far it hasn't worked well.

To me, these aren't exclusive from each other. I take directed as to mean directed by a Director, a Cinematic experience, rather than directed as in linear.

You can still have a high-quality cinematic campaign experience with cutscenes and missions, while still being able to explore.

As far as we know, each major planet/location has it's own story or campaign of sorts.

Yeah, there are a lot of concerns I have about this. Guild Wars 2's directed story was arguably its worst element. However, that was a game coming from a studio that had never truly attempted such a thing.

It may very well be that the story elements are the strongest while the rest of the game suffers. However, I do believe Bungie to be capable of, though not always successful in, tackling new ideas.

The online requirement sucks though. Especially since it's going to require the Live/PS+ paywall to play alone.

I honestly haven't heard much about any competitive MP.
They haven't talked much about adversarial multiplayer, although some new things are mentioned in the gameinformer cover story.

Also, the PS3 version will not have a paywall.

While you won't be able to travel across the planet from the ground, there will be multiple destinations per planet. I think they mentioned there are 5 player destinations on the Moon in the October podcast.

Sort of an example of part of what part of the hub area can look like:

I need that beta in my life. I noticed they don't want to call it a "mmo" but a shared world experience. Still trying to figure out why you need to be online for single player though.

I'm assuming we can carry over our shit from the beta to the full game?

I'm a bit bummed that my crew from Halo won't be fully joining at release. It'll be a two man Hunter & Warlock guild-team until he gets a PS4.

Traditional single player esque campaign? I'd completely dismissed the likes of Destiny, Titanfall and other online only games, but I might give Destiny a shot now

I don't think the public event enemies would even be something that you could tackle alone even if you had the option to. They seem like "raid bosses" to me.

I have a feeling that indie pub Activision might be able to scrape together some Kickstarter money by launch to let people know about the game, maybe get a Facebook page up & running or something.
