Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Wow, that is one ugly avatar.

I'm going to move the discussion back to Smash, if ya'll don't mind.

What do you guys think about Mario's practically unchanged moveset? I remember seeing somewhere that his FLUDD is back, which I don't particularly care for. Cape is too, which is useful but nothing special.

I kind of wished Mario would get some new stuff, as there's really so much stuff to draw upon. Down B could've been a Tanooki-suit spin attack. Side-B could've been something Cat-suit related a la SM3DW. Obviously Fireball and Super Jump Punch aren't going anywhere because those are classic Mario moves.

As for Luigi, I wonder if the Green Missile will return? I don't think we've seen it in any trailers or anything. While I absolutely love the Green Missile, it doesn't really match with any Luigi move in any game he's been in. I'd love for Luigi to get some Poltergust-style special instead. It does seem, however, that Luigi is now getting the Flutter jump...which leads me to wonder if he'll become more floaty in the air. As a Luigi player, this could be good and bad.

What are you guys thoughts?

All I want for Mario is to get a glide with his cape and his gliding attack to be a dive bomb. If Fludd becomes an even more useful technique I would be satisfied as well. I've seen good things done with it against certain characters but it needs something a little more added to it.

The old characters from 64 and Melee are so bare bones compared to all the crazy things the Brawl newcomers are capable of. You know if Donkey kong was added today that roll attack would be the first move he got. Same goes for Luigi and his Poltergust. Still that's partly why I love Donkey kong so much, he doesn't use all those gadgets and crap like Diddy. I love that Bowser just uses his body as well. While the Koop Clown Car would make for a better recovery(possibly) I would be so turned off by it.

I agree with the veteran's feeling "bare bones" although I think it is more a feeling of their move set just being stale. I know that Sakurai doesn't want to upset fans of characters or probably wants to save time and not alter veteran's moves sets but some of them could benefit from a fresher feel.

I love what they've done with Bowser's feel and that they changed 2/4 of Pit's B moves; why can't they do so with many of the other veterans?

My thoughts:
Mario: get rid of the fludd, it was a nice nod in brawl to an under-represented Mario game but was useless! Also although the cape is useful, I agree that it should have a gliding mechanic as well, perhaps if you hold b down after executing it he whips it out (same mechanics as current) and then proceeds to put it on and glide if in the air or just put it on on the ground prepping for the next jump?

Luigi: I love his move set as is but to avoid being hypocritical, I would change his fireball move and give him something else (poltergust) and maybe a different up b move since his recovery is bound to be better with his flutter jump.

Link: get rid of the bow and arrow and the bombs. His boomerang is a better spacing attack than the bow and he has so many more tools in his arsenal that I would love a change up. Give him some new stuff from skyward sword or ALBW.

Samus: I never played the Metroid games very much so I'm sure someone else had better suggestions for her move set.

Pikachu: maybe a new up b or side b moves? The neutral and down b seem to be the most staple and essential to character for Pikachu.

Donkey Kong: Please give him his roll as a dash attack!!!!!!! I'll never understand why this hasn't been used. Heck even use it as a new side B move if you have to!

Capt. falcon: ugh, another character I love as is so someone else will have to come up with suggestions.

This is dragging on so I'll just list other characters that need a refresh and let others contribute if they would like - Zelda, Sheik (get rid of that useless chain!), Ness, Fox (I'm going to get blasted for this suggestion), and Ganondorf (needing a move refresh most of all)

Getting rid of Link's bow and arrow and bombs might be the worst "suggestion" I've ever heard. Those are two of the Zelda series' most iconic weapons, and they're a Smash Bros. staple at this point.

I think Toon Link is where they should go to if they are going to add something different. Deku Leaf and the Skull Hammer are something I would like to see. It would differentiate him from Link further.

Aww hell naw! You can't get rid of the bombs and bow.
Extended bomb recovery with Link was awesome!

As a Peach player, I have to say that getting rid of his bombs would screw him over so baaaad. Those are a strong point in his moveset! I love playing mind games with the opponent when I mess around with bomb throwing. Arrows though....they need some kind of buff or something, I dont want it taken away though, maybe link can change the trajectory of the arrow like Pit used to in brawl.

Link's bombs are really useful. His arrows could maybe be a bit faster to charge, but he needs them to play mind games with projectiles, maybe his most strong strategy.

I wouldn't mind if link's bow caused more horizontal knockback... Looking back, it's rather funny how much weaker link's bombs are compared to snakes grenades.

The best thing I could think of for a arrow buff is shooting extra arrows the longer you charge it. Each arrow would slightly go in a different angle like a arc.

What Project M did with Samus is cool. At least they could make Samus alternate between regular and ice missiles randomly or something.

Veterans that I'd like to see updated are Mario (no Fludd, maybe a spin attack?), Ganondorf (a unique moveset...), Toon Link (more representative of TWW), Luigi (Poltergust), Falco/Wolf (I'd be happy with new Final Smashes), Olimar (new Pikmin) and Sonic (boring moves). Others could use slight changes to be better, like Yoshi, Link, DK...

Yeah, I thought so.

TB's disgusting new avatar...ACTIVATE!

oh batty...:( *burns eyes out*

Well... that's creepy...

Aww man sorry that you lost....really I am >_>

I blocked Troubled Bat's avatar. Feels good.

I had forgotten I could block specific images from my browser, lol.

lol did the same thing. So much nicer.

That avatar will now haunt her dreams lol

Wow, that is one ugly avatar.

Oh dear. My condolences to TB. D:

After avatar bets, I always have to make sure.

What if Link could change his arrow types? :O

This exactly. I would really hope for this! And at least a few different attack moves.

PM has fire arrows for Toon Link which is pretty decent for a buff. Adds a little hazard for a bit even if it misses.

I really like the suggestions for Link, I never considered altering arrow types for the bow. If they did that and improved knock back or charge time then they wouldn't be as terrible. I do agree with Toon Link being a wasted opportunity to freshen up the move set without taking away any of Link's moves and (apparently) upsetting everyone as I just found out

But what's the fun in that if you aren't risky. :D

Well it might just be that a lot of the bets I would make would be safe and obvious picks for what to expect from the game, for instance I'm 100% on board with the idea of every Brawl vet returning including Solid Snake. As far as newcomers, there are a few I'm very confident in but so are many other people as well.

I guess if I had to make a bet, it would be that Simon Belmont is definitely making it into the game as I feel like he would be an obvious fit, but at the same time it would be a little unpredictable for many reasons. (Snake already being from Konami, Already many 3rd party characters in the game including newcomers Mega Man and the rumored Pac Man)
If I was really dumb I'd make a character bet for next Tuesday.

Well, Well ! Did I see a fresh meat with an interesting bet. I would take that bet with you for Simon Belmont. :3

Tonight marks exactly four weeks since Marth's reveal, so even if we don't get a new character, one's bound to show up by the end of next week.

Oh yeah! I don't know what that'd be mapped to, but that would be awesome.

And I don't like the FLUDD and have never liked the FLUDD. I'd be cool with it if they made it more useful, but I don't see that happening.

FLUDD makes wetness happen. Getting people wet and soggy is the ultimate insult in a fight. Mario is a dirty fighter.

FLUDD should go, but the cape should always be there.

I guess to comment on the Link changes, I think if they just made Link like he is in Project M then he'd be amazing. Boomerang can be debated though.

I'm expecting nothing super interesting tonight.

Where is the its nothing gif?

That´s what I think we´re getting tomorrow ):

Also never change SmashGAF never change... haha!
