Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

HD on dead console or 3D on thrivingg console, hmmmmm.

I'm joking before anyone says anything.

You said you were joking but...

*looks around*

I don't think

*looks over shoulder*

the Wii U

*checks to make sure area is secure*

is dead just yet

*slithers away*

Very interesting choice for an attack.

And that gets me wondering, is Villager's whole move set known at this point? I mean, other than his Final Smash.
We're still missing his neutral and forward aerials and all of his throws, most prominently, and some of the moves we've seen are really ambiguous as to where they fit. The bowling ball, his shovel move, and the famous Tree Grow moves could all fit in multiple slots and make sense.

Has Villager used his slingshot or a firework yet? They may be his up throw, but slingshotting Boswer would be odd 0.o

Slightshot is his back-aerial, and the firework is seemingly his up-smash.

I thought his downsmash is the dig, because it's a front-then-back attack.
Probably, but it would be unprecedented as a down-smash that buries. Plus, what would charging it do? Burying them for significantly longer could become very OP very fast.

It's probably just a weaker pitfall bury. And it's not like it's the only smash attack with special effect (see: ZSS down smash)

We already have Donkey Kong's side B, though.

"Pic of the day. The Villager's special attack, the Lloid Rocket, is a projectile weapon like no other--you can either launch it or ride on it. When you fire it off, keep pressing the button to hop aboard--you can even control its speed. It's more powerful when you're riding it."

That's really cool.

Brawl's was fun but... really hated the gritty realism they gave that stage. It took away that Mario feel :(

Was that really Sakurai's attempt at gritty realism, or more a throwback to the first Mario Bros. and showing how long ago and old that game may seem now?

I hope that Galaxy stage doesn't involve side-scrolling like Mushroomy Kingdom or the 3D Land level do >=[

Loved the 64/Brawl Mushroom Kingdom stages, didn't care for the Melee one. The blocks in the center were really inconvenient.

People say the same thing for Brawl's 1-2 Mushroomy Kingdom, but I find it hysterical to see characters get slapped around by that stage's layout (the real problem lies in how easy it is to get Star KO'd, but that's a minor setback for me).

Pretty much. Part of the reason why I loved those stages as well.

So finally confirmation of what that old Smash pic was about.

Guess theories that it was to do with the AC sage were off.

So I wonder what Mushroom Kingdom stage we'll get this time? 64's still my favorite of the bunch.

I prefer Melee's over 64 and Brawl's, although 64's Mushroom Kingdom holds a nostalgic place in my heart. The pipes and POW blocks were pretty fun to mess around with.

FINALLY! I can post. A fair few of you might recognise me. Anyway, enough talk, I'll just start with my 3 most wanted newcomers.

In no particular order:

1 - Anna (Fire Emblem)
2 - Palutena (Kid Icarus)
3 - Little Mac (Punch Out)

Villager's moveset is quite interesting. :3

OMG. OMG! WELCOME to SmahGAF Thread

About damn time!

Mushroomy Kingdom was one of the worst Smash stages in series history. I wonder what their thought process was when they decided to turn the original SMB levels into a stage, but to remove all color/character from it and make it a boring ass (and out of character for the Mario IP) wasteland.

I honestly thought it was super interesting...

I thought it was great. It was a dead mario stage because its been a billion years since mario 1.

That's exactly what Sakurai said about the stage in the Dojo.

(Sorry for German text, but webarchive didn't load the english page)

"But the Kingdom, unlike in your memories (sic!), now lies in ruins. A battlefield, made of debris from old/forgotten times(sic!)"

Oh hey welcome! They must've approved a bunch of people lately.

I don't quite understand Villager's special attack...although his moveset has been the most interesting one since G&W.

Well, you can just read the Dojo update about it. It was meant to be like returning to an abandoned area.

Personally, I liked how much freedom Meele and Brawl had with the Mario IP. But now it seems like they're even attempting to force Smash Bros to line up with everything else... The designs are still different from the templates, but they really didn't do anything creative with them, just tried to give them brighter colors to approach the official designs.

Is anyone else really hoping the 3ds version doesn't suck? I think I'll get a lot more play time out of a mobile version of this game, but I do own a WiiU just in case.

If the point was that SMB is an old game then I would have preferred they went with a pixelated look. (It is used a lot, but I would put SMB higher on the list of it being necessary than Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong) The first stages of SMB are one of the most iconic moments in gaming, and just speaking personally here but I feel like intentionally washing the life out of something so well remembered was a bad call.

The point wasn't to make it look retro (unlike SSB64 and SSBM). The point was to show how much time has passed since Super Mario Bros. was released. That's a pretty big difference.

Guess I'm just not a fan of the idea of SMB with a dystopian twist. If he really wanted to implement that kind of stage idea, I think it would have worked better on something else where it makes sense in the context of the series. Something like the long-abandoned ruins of Zebes from Metroid after the defeat of Mother Brain. (Not as iconic as SMB, but still as old)

Welcome to both Oreo and Son of D.

I really like Villager's special....though it makes me think his UP-B wont be as good (it was balloons right?).

Also thinking back on what I said about not seeing DK pic pf the day in a long time......maybe they are saving up for a bunch of DK related reveals at VGX.
Bad idea to some people.
Im guessing Diddy will be brought back but with Dixie as a partner, as intended in brawl.

I wonder when we'll get information about game modes and such - the game's content, not just the fighting engine. It's pretty clear that the fighting won't be changing much, so the only way to make the game stand out is with everything else...

Mushroomy kingdom looked like a piece of crap.

90% of the reason I'd be fine with barely any newcomers is just the fact that nearly every single stage shown so far (3ds & wiiu both) has been an absolute palette party.

Brawl's gritty shitty poo look bugged me more than any tripping ever could, so I'm damn glad they're no longer using that as the philosophy for their graphic design this time around.

If I can provide a personal opinion, I feel as though SM1 is thematically different than any other mario. Yes, I know most mario games are thematically different but 1 in particular, even more different than Doki Doki Mario 2. 3 and world are very much like a show, 3 in particular rumored to be a stage play. 2 is vey dream like for obvious reasons, and the NSMB games take a bulk of their influence from 3 and world. The gameboy games have the same odd dreamy feeling as 2. But 1, is super bare bones for obvious reasons. Its the OG, its very brick-ey it always read more industrial even inspite the grassy background, almost Dk-ish. That odd themeing has never been replicated again in a mario game except for the Mario vs Dk games (IMO). Everything takes from 2 - world, or in wario's case the gba games. It was kind of weird seeing the catsles the end of stages when I first the NSMB games. I had been a little bit. It feels, at least to me, mario even right after the first game had springboaded off it and left it there. And I guess that is it feels like its been a while.

Anyways that is just how I feel about it, maybe sakurai shares the sentiment
