Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

WTFFFFF.....Marth is already one of the best characters and his b attack was fine. Now it paralyses, what the fuck are you smoking Sakurai? Tbh I doubt people are still going to use for anything other than recovery since his side attacks are much faster and do a fair bit on the tip as well. That b attack took too long to use and was highlighted by the animations very clearly.

wut??

You didn't know that after a shield breaks, it stuns the character?

True. But if the strike didn't break the shield you could be punished easily. And in the time between that shield strength drop and recovering from the punish, the effect of the strike will be negated. Making it stronger wouldn't make it OP or anything close.
Definitely. The strike took the shield down low, but rarely ever broke it. And if I had damaged the shield already, my opponent would just roll out of the way while I was charging my strike. And Sakurai could've just increased the damage it deals to shields. It may not be too much more powerful to unshielded opponents.

Brawl also had a bloated development compared to 64 and Melee.

true

i wonder how much time got reduced for this game by not including SSE

but then again, this game is likely going ot have a bigger roster for both characters and stages

and then there's the insane amount of content it might have just like brawl (you know with billions of musics and other side stuff)

but then again Sakurai did picked Namco to speed up the development process so maybe that release date is possible

i guess we'll wait and see

You're forgetting the most important factor. There are 2 games in development.

The attack was completely useless in Brawl. Even Lv. 1 CPU could easily avoid that lame stab. If Sakurai really wants to bring Shield Breaker back he should restore it to its old Melee glory.

I still don't entirely believe that there's no significant single-player content.

They gutted the best people from the Tales team for this game. They can't just be making art assets.

They probably have two different teams working on both consoles. I think it might be easier to transfer the models to 3DS and downsizing them and add the color filters. Problem is that I don't know anything about game development. Yeah, It's my assumption.

I'm pretty sure that there will be single-player contents but they wouldn't announce those modes until we are getting close to release date.

Wait, they did? Huh....
I imagine we might get something like Melee's adventure mode, maybe a bit more advanced, but nothing as big as SSE.

It's super easy to take high res assets and downsize them for the 3DS.

I'm secretly choosing to believe that Sakurai was flat out lying about no SSE-style single player. Even though the SSE was poorly executed, it was still super fuckin cool. Pikachu using Thunder on Ridley to save Samus? Awesome. Mario and Link dodging R.O.B. lasers? Awesome. I think with the Bamco team they could correct a lot of things that weren't so awesome.

And it'd be a shame if they didn't try to fix their mistakes with the single player because Sakurai "Doesn't like it when the cutscenes are spoiled waaaah."

The "People uploaded the cutscenes to Youtube" reason for not doing another single player is super weird, so I'd love if he was just trying to misdirect us, but I don't think he is.

There aren't shadows in this picture because they'll soon introduce shadow
the hedhehog
.

I'm quite sure the cutscenes to Youtube comment was just Sakurai explaining why cutscenes weren't good rewards for a single player mode. I don't remember the exact quote though so I could be wrong.

I'm sure we'll get plenty of single player content as well. I'm hoping that a Melee style adventure mode makes a return, though.

I read a rumor recently that JUMPMAN would be a newcomer. Probably the dumbest shit I've read.

Is this one?

Guys, new leak from GameFAQS popped up last night. It's deleted now, but having foreseen that, I copied it over for when Smashboards came back up. This guy's name is "SmashBrosLeak."

Specifically made this account to avoid any trouble.
I'm on these boards and Smash Boards under a different acct. name.
Found out a few things and I'm willing to share. I trust my source, but I haven't seen anything first hand:

-Roster is around 40 characters
-Mewtwo is back
-Dixie Kong, Mii, Jumpman are all in
-ROB, Lucario are back
-Snake is not back
-Bowser Jr. is an Assist Trophy
-There's a stage based on Tetris
-The Cannon Box from Super Mario 3D World is an item

This is everything I know, don't bother to ask me about more information.

Later in the thread, a guy under a different username (Fishy12, if I remember correctly) answered a guy's question about certain characters. I imagine this guy was just a separate troll, though the leaker may have neglected to switch back from his regular account before answering.

-Ganondorf is NOT back. Ridley and King K Rool are both adventure mode bosses.

Speaking of Tales games, what are the chances of us getting a Tales character? Lloyd or maybe that scrub from Graces?

Well, he could still include a significant single player without it being heavily cutscene focused. Maybe something like Kid Icarus Uprising where most things happen while you play? Or even just an action/adventure mode with minimal story, but more developed content-wise than Melee's few stages.

They could even go completely crazy and do something like an RPG mode, considering all the "Tales of" members on the team. Maybe you play through some kind of mini-Tales-like JRPG with battles changing to Smash's traditional format, rather than attempting to make it an action/platformer game. Something like that could likely be developed in parallel to the main game too, considering how they wouldn't need battle assets/engine for most of the mode's unique content.

King K Rool, with all the DKCReturns enemy changes? I think not. Unless there's some spoiler and I don't know that he is in there.

Shield breaker has always been balanced well. It would typically weaken shields near their breakpoint with a low charge, full charge would always break shield.

After hitting with a low charge you'd incite fear into your opponent and it was still advantageous. If you ever actually scored a shield break, it was HIGHLY REWARDING, and as such shield breaks should definitely not be easier because they are devastating.

If it becomes easier to break shields Marth's game will turn into making good reads into shield breaks and then fully charging tippered forward smashes to likely kill his opponent.

Also every move in Brawl is "easy to dodge", you typically have to make reads, punish, or out prioritize your opponents attacks to land anything in that game that isn't a jab or grab.

I want to announce a new bet to SmashGAF.

It will be against Batty for today. She betted that we will get a character reveal today, so if she lost then she will have to wear the avatar of my choice for a week. If I lost then I will have to wear her choice of avatar or something.

Batty is waiting for Wednesday FOREVEEEERRR!!

See, I think the format of the SSE was a good idea at its core because it didn't require any real gameplay development apart from the existing Smash Bros. formula. That allowed them to make it a little longer. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but what made SSE stale was the super generic locations, blah enemies, and total lack of voice acting (I'm just saying let's get some "let's-a-go" in those scenes). I'm pretty sure a revamped SSE, with voiced bits, a more involved story, and worlds taken directly from Nintendo franchises would be a true realization of the concept.

Two Links with no Ganon would be awful.
For real. I'll give them credit for making their rumor at least interesting for putting villains in the Adventure Mode even though they already dug their hole by making Ganondorf not playable and forgetting Bowser still is.

Yawn, Batty, you're barely ever right, so why try? D:

If its coming spring, I'm genuinely surprised that we haven't seen more newcomers or more solid info about character customization already.

Does anyone have that article from Brawl's development (or whenever else) where Sakurai stated that characters must originate from video games?

yes, I am arguing with someone who thinks otherwise and he wants me to show proof even though the games themselves are god damn proof

I don't even know why I bother with these kind of people lol

He also said no Animal Crossing kid but look how that turned out. "maybe he changed his mind" is always gonna be a valid counter-argument.
