Fighting Games Weekly | Dec 9-15 | Funding Nemo? Not yet...

When Magus commentates, it is more about him than the match. Who he thinks they should be picking. What he thinks they should, would, or will do. It's basically verbal self-fellation.

He's better than Justin Wong at least

"AWWW WHY!? YOU COULD'VE DONE FADC EX ULTRA TAILSPIN SPECIAL THATS WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE!" x infinity

By the way, for Capcom Cup, I'll be commentating SFxT with Combofiend and SF4 with James Chen. Magus1234 and Combofiend will be on for Marvel 3.

Yay!

Seriously? Magus for Marvel? We know he's a smart player but he isn't that great as a commentator. UltraDavid, please replace Magus.

Magus falls in to the Tom Brady line of commentary where he just harps the decisions players make and constantly disagreeing with what they are doing.

hey david do you see yourself getting a lot of work now that youtube is cracking down on youtube game streamers? you're a copyright lawyer right?

I am in the anti Magus commentary camp as well, haha.

I am sure he is a nice/cool guy, just he's weird in a bad way on the mic. Opinions and all that of course.

LMAO @ that FChamp vs RayRay...

RayRay calling out assists against a Dark Phoenix is among the worst things you could do in the game decision wise.

I'll never understand the Magus hate. One of my personal favorites. Just seems like a chill dude.
Just being a chill dude isn't enough to make a great commentator.

I don't hate Magus personally, but his commentary ranges from terribad to decent; not enough for me to say he's a *good* commentator. He's gotten better and there's less of the tier-whoring shit now, but Karst's summary of him up there is pretty accurate.

I think it was EVO, but the one time Magus and Yipes commentated showed me the clear difference between a good Marvel commentator and.. well Magus. You had Magus with a bunch of "don't know what he was trying to do there" and "should've could've would've" and you had Yipes on the other end talking about what input they tried and missed, why they chose to make that decision (as opposed to redundantly explaining the consequences which are right in front of you), what advantage the set up would've given if it landed, etc. Intricate knowledge. Yeah not everyone is as knowledgeable as Yipes about the game, but when knowledge is substituted with dismissive remarks, it doesn't really make it very pleasant to listen to.

I don't like ski b/c he brings his hype at the wrong moment. I mean does playing the neutral play really need you to be yelling about it? I think this match kinda explains what I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2a_Z3WNWXs
I watched that and thought it was fine. I don't really find Skis hype to be infectious, but I was not bothered either.

Agreed.
