Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I'm looking forward for Pac-Man for long time ever since the rumor "leaked." However, you should stick around here more often but I know hype isn't healthy for you. What a shame. :(
Your feedback means a lot to me. :) And it's not like hype would hurt me -- I thrive on hype! -- but Brawl's Dojo was such a vicious cycle... O_o

What an uninspiring batch of newcomers that would be. :(

Aside from Mega Man \m/
The person who posted that didn't present them as the full extent of newcomers -- just the ones to expect at E3. Obviously, half his "predictions" came true -- and what's remarkable is nobody else guessed Wii Fit Trainer, and few guessed Villager, due to Sakurai's past comments. I truly believe this individual had/has insider knowledge, and I fully suspect all six of those characters were originally planned for E3, but the individual trailer format allowed them to dole them out piecemeal. In the end, Nintendo must've decided that Wii Fit Trainer created the right amount of hype -- and so Mii, Little Mac and Pac-Man were saved for another day.

Pac-Man is nothing special. He's just a boring character, in my opinion. He really doesn't lend himself to fighting games at all.

Bomberman I can definitely get behind, though.

I just woke up and what is this

I know...what the hell happened to this thread this evening? I think it was Neiteio deciding to go on a posting spree. :P

I obviously beg to differ and think Pac-Man is interesting. But I'd like to comment on Bomberman -- his ability to generate bombs, stack 'em, pump 'em, drop-kick 'em, and create cascading pillars of fire that'd be a hazard to himself and to others -- would be AMAZING. And you guys have no idea how hard I nostalgia at Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Hero. I'd totally support his inclusion 100%. But I can't think of many reasons to realistically expect him, unless Sakurai went out of his way to ask Konami. They're the ones who currently own that IP, right?

I GOT A FEVER, AND THE ONLY PRESCRIPTION, IS MORE PAC-MAN.

Thinking about Bomberman, which if I'm not mistaken now belongs to Konami... It really is amazing how many Konami characters I'd want in Smash.

- Raiden (from MGS)
- Goemon (from Mystical Ninja)
- Simon Belmont (from Castlevania)
- Bomberman (from, well, you know...)

Those four immediately spring to mind. I can't really think of many companies that have more characters I'd want repped in Smash (outside of Nintendo itself, of course).

Then again, if the entire cast of Resident Evil was eligible, I guess Capcom would take the cake!

He could be like what up dudes , I want Snake for SSB4 and Bomberman too while you guys are in the spirit of giving.

I'd hella love a Belmont. Whip play is needed (outside of samus)

Belmont, along with Pit and Mega Man who are already in the game, would complete the trio from the Captain N cartoon.

Well, I guess they'd need to make Game Boy a character in order to have the whole gang...

So what's gonna be the tagline in pac-man's intro? Here's mine:

PAC-MAN
takes a bite!

or maybe

PAC-MAN
gets chompin'!
PAC-MAN
"PAC ATTACK, MOTHERFUCKERS!"

Also, that real-life Pac-Man GIF is oddly how I'd picture him in-game, albeit his legs would be shorter. But the eyes are right, and that's the main thing!

Its been awhile since I've done this but I'll do a list again of newcomers.

Mario:
Rosalina- fan favorite, been in 3 mario titles & spinoffs and represents a pivotal game in the series. It would also be a somewhat surprising and interesting choice that I think would be a little out of left field. Could use the Lumas for her moves and other SMG/SM3DW related moves such as maybe a cat swipe or dive.

LoZ-
Ganon- Ganondorf transformation. Resembles ALttP/OoT form. Would wield Trident of Power and help diversify Ganondorf as a fighter. His B-over could work similar to Pikachu's thunder move coming out of his trident but horizontal instead of vertical. His standard B move could lob an energy ball at opponents that players could hit back at him.

Wolf Link/Midna- fan favorite character and would diversify his moveset from Toon Link. His B-side move would be him dashing a short distance in front of him. B-up would be Midna teleporting them both. Standard B would be Midna stunning characters in the immediate vicinity.

Pokemon:
*Mewtwo- he returns with his final smash transforming him into Mewtwo X or Y.

Female Pokemon Trainer- uses 3 different starters or mascots from different generations. Possibly Oshawot, Bayleef & Blaziken. Chose these three because they are popular and represent gens not covered.

DK:
Dixie Kong- was almost included last time and will be in TF and has been in numerous DK games and spinoffs.

Metroid:
Ridley- has to be one of the most requested at this point and I think if Sakurai and team really tried they could come up with a way to make it work.

Kid Icarus:
Palutena- I think the series could use one more rep and no better choice than her.

Animal Crossing:
Tom Nook- One of the biggest selling franchises deserves a 2nd rep. The reveal trailer for Villager felt like it was setting up for Nook's arrival with him picking up and reading Villager's invite to Smash Bros.

Fire Emblem:
Not knowledgable of the series but there should be a rep for the latest one on the 3DS since it was such a popular game.

Other:
Takamura- fun retro character with a game on Nintendoland
Little Mac- Punchout had a recent entry and I have a feeling Stadium is from the Punchout series.
Mii- they are pretty important to Nintendo and I think there is more than enough games they could draw a moveset from.
Pacman- completes the Mario vs. Sonic vs. Megaman retro mascot showdown and Namco is developing the title.

Cut:
Snake- I'll admit he was a fun and shocking character but he really had no place in the SSB series.

Wolf- SSB fans will dislike me for this but there were far better options and while I used Wolf from time to time I don't think he was ever really needed. Probably another unlikely cut.

Jigglypuff- 99% sure it will never happen because I don't see them taking out any of the original characters but as slots in SSB fill up and Jigglypuff is taking place over more interesting and deserving characters he starts to stick out like a sore thumb. However he has become the staple joke character and I don't see it happening any time in the near future.

Female Pokemon Trainer- uses 3 different starters or mascots from different generations. Possibly Oshawot, Bayleef & Blaziken. Chose these three because they are popular and represent gens not covered.
What. Mudkip, Grovyle, and Blaziken are the most probable.
Especially with the Hoenn remakes coming.

Is everyone really that confident for a new character reveal? There's still a bunch of veterans that have yet to be shown like Ice Climbers, King DeDeDe, Diddy Kong, Wario, and more.
They were too busy padding it out with filler releases that important reveals are too far apart.

The only trainer that should be in game is Red with Charizard. They could fight along side each other and activate mega evolution.Mega Punch as attack would be better than rock smash and Fire Spin/Fire Blast would be cooler than Flamethrower.

I'd like to make the case for another character I want to see -- and one who I fully anticipate will make the roster:

kid-icarus-uprising-atvsr7.jpg

Probably more than any other possible newcomer, Palutena has EVERYTHING in her favor:

+ Kid Icarus is eligible for another representative, and Palutena is by far and away the most relevant pick after Pit himself. Heck, the Japanese name of the series has "Palutena" right in the title. She's the "Zelda" of the series!

+ Sakurai adores her. This is plainly evident from how extensively she featured into his last game, Kid Icarus Uprising -- which may I remind you, was a HUGE game, practically a trilogy unto itself, with three acts that individually could've passed for entire games in their own right. Palutena was brilliantly portrayed every step of the way. Simply one of the best and most loveable Nintendo characters in ages.

+ Nintendo promoted the shit out of her: From the interior art of the game case, to her starring role in several of the anime shorts (including the two-parter "Palutena's Revolting Dinner"), she received top billing from Nintendo in what must've been one of their largest advertising campaigns in quite some time.

+ Her design is UNIQUE! She's a staff user, she's female, and she has green hair -- a refreshing change of pace from all of the blonde chicks. Plus, she's a goddess!

+ And correct me if I'm mistaken, but it appears Pit's Mirror Shield is gone, replaced with the Guardian Orbitars. I see a couple possibilities. One possibility is Pit has now replaced his Final Smash with the Three Sacred Treasures, of which the mirror is one component. This frees up Palutena to be a playable character. The other possibility is that the move has been given to Palutena herself -- she does have a functional shield on her arm, after all.

No matter which way you look at it, Palutena is likely to be added. There's no functional reason she'd be difficult to implement. She is current and a character very familiar to Sakurai. And don't pretend Sakurai's "humility" would get in the way -- it didn't stop him from adding both Meta Knight -and- King Dedede to Brawl. Palutena isn't technically his creation, anyways, even if he did breathe new life into the character with the incredible Kid Icarus Uprising.

I, for one, eagerly await the green goddess!

I thought Nintendo (not sure about Sakurai) tried to avoid adding many new female characters to Smash?

Palutena does seem like she could be an assist trophy. It might be cool to have her though, if they can make her look unique enough compared to Peach and Zelda.

No one ever said that.

She's not a princess, and she looks nothing like Peach or Zelda.

Play Kid Icarus Uprising, posthaste!

Dunno why they'd be against more females.

Man forget all these characters , Sukapon needs to get some love being from Nintendo's only attempt at true fighter and could be considered retro being NES character.

Getting a little overhyped again, aren't we?
Prediction for today: Jigglypuff, completely out of the blue. Been a while since the last reveal.

Holy shit, Sukapon?

Well... that would certainly be something. Would make a good Mr. G&W/ROB-style vintage character.

Alternatively: Sheriff.

that's not how Hades is spelled
Ha, I can appreciate that viewpoint. :) Palutena edges out Hades for me, but man I love every character in that game. If it came down to just one KI newcomer, though, I think we both know Palutena would get the nod. Her name's in the title, she has the legacy factor, etc. She has the advantage in every way.

Now if they were to add a THIRD character from Kid Icarus... Things would get really interesting. I can see them considering Hades, of course, but also Medusa, despite her limited role in Uprising, simply because she'd be the first female villain on the roster, and she was the original villain in the series.

And Japan being Japan and all... Viridi seems like she'd stand a chance. And then there's Magnus, whose physicality and move-set seems tailor-made for Smash. And even Dark Pit could be mustered as a clone that uses different weapons from Pit proper... although I hope they keep Dark Pit an alternate skin, like he is in Brawl.

Screw it, just turn Smash 4 into a Kid Icarus fighting game.

Dark Pit with different Uprising weapons would be this games Evil Cole

don't get me wrong, I'd like Palutena in Smash 4
only if Viridi is also in
but more seriously, not without Shulk too

It would be a polarizing decision, and it's NOT one I recommend... but it would be one possible way to represent the sheer diversity of weapons that were introduced in Uprising.

The better approach would be to give regular Pit different "stances," like Gen in SSFIV, where he can effectively change the weapons he uses with his specials.

You're talking about including Wolf Link/Midna and Tom Nook, not considering the exclusions of Lucas and Lucario, and then cutting Wolf?

I don't know, mang =(
Animal Crossing is one of their biggest sellers and is a massive franchise. Tom Nook is one of the few important and constant characters in the series.

Lucario in terms of marketing is probably second to Pikachu in terms of usage through out the different games. I think he'd need to be altered a bit to better differentiate himself from Mewtwo but I see little reason to nix him.

Wolf Link/Midna- would help better differentiate himself from Toon Link and is a highly popular character in one of the best selling entries in the series. I don't see it as likely personally but I think it'd be a good addition to surprise people.

Lucas I hadn't given much thought about personally, kinda forgot about him. I could go either way. Two representations from a cult franchise doesn't seem too bad but I wouldn't be opposed to him being cut either.

Wolf- his inclusion was uneccesary and while he isn't a clone of Fox/Falco they couldve come up with a better and more interesting moveset if they were gonna introduce another SF representative. I don't think he will be cut because he does fulfill a role in the competitive scene. However if push came to shove and they didn't want the roster getting too big I'd prefer to see him go opposed to other characters.

Palutena, Rosalina, Takamaru are pretty much the trio of newcomers I want to see most if I cut away the Believe part of myself and brace for reality. If Mike Jones, Tharja, Captain Syrup, someone good from Golden Sun, Advance Wars & Sin & Punishment, Little Mac, Shulk, and/or Ridley shows up on top of those three and I'm departing from my body Winnie_The_Pooh_I_Cant.gif style in over hype.

I rather have Blaziken alone, it's Final Smash would be it mega evolving and just flare blitzing and Hi jump kicking everything on stage.

And speed boosting to impossible levels of Gotta Go Fast™.

Magnus should be the Kid Icarus rep.
Him and Pit shared a hot spring together , which is a bond between men that many can't understand.

Some more conservative predictions:

supersmashbrosblitz-0cis6z.png

...plus Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer.

On a serious note, I could justify every one of those guys, but of course I don't expect them all
