Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I... I can't...

I wonder if Mr. Game and Watch will look any different.
Sakurai will discover the existence of black people thanks to the power of social media, and turn Mr. G&W into Smash's token black character, now with afro, basketball spinning on finger and bucket of KFC in hand.

Also, suggesting some tracks to be remixed and covered in the next Smash.
Dark Samus
Hive Mecha/Incinerator Drone
Rundas
Mutated Emperor Ing
Bryyo Cliffside
Metroid Prime 2 Title Screen
Yes, Mutated Emperor Ing is the nuts and I demand it in the next Smash.
Hive Mecha is also mad underrated I imagine, a theme that awesome for WAR WASPS!

I'd add Quadraxis and Gandrayda to this boss theme love in as well. Much like Azure J if I step outside of boss themes then i'll end going overboard.

I can't do a Metroid music post. This thread would get firebomb'd with millions of links to Metroid Prime 2 music.

Prime 2. <2
I tried resisting, but I still posted more Metroid Prime 2 music than any other Metroid game. That haunting beep melody in the title theme is so distinctive and nice to listen to, and then it appears at the beginning of the Mutated Emperor Ing theme and gets you so pumped! And there are also tons of tunes in Metroid Prime 2 that aren't suitable for Smash but are still great to listen to, like Torvus Bog.

Forgot about those two. I'm not sure Quadraxis would work well in Smash, since it's rather slow and ominous, but a remix that speeds it up and adds some more oomph would be wonderful.

The Brinstar remix from Brawl is actually taken, for the most part, directly from Metroid Prime Pinball.

I don't begrudge the Metroid representation choices in Smash for the most part--to me the complaints sound more of "that's not what I would have done" and less of actual objective reasons. For instance, I personally think Frigate Orpheon is actually a pretty damn good choice for a Metroid Prime stage considering it was everyone's introduction to 3D Metroid period. It's like begrudging the choice of Green Hill Zone as Sonic's stage. Sure, maybe you would have preferred Sky Sanctuary or something, but there's a definite reason why Green Hill Zone was chosen. I feel the same for Frigate Orpheon. I absolutely consider it an iconic location of the Metroid Prime series. It's where it all began.

Music choice is pretty subjective, but it's probably better than the music choices from Pikmin, for instance. I think Other M has injected more bitterness in the fanbase in the form of malaise for all things not Metroid Prime than it really warranted.
I don't think it's Other M. I've felt this way about Metroid in Smash since I played Melee and then Prime and Fusion. There are so many interesting areas in Prime, and even Fusion had that awesome TRO section where everything was overgrown and covered in Ki-Hunter husks. Yet in both Smash Bros 64 and Melee, we got lava-filled caverns.

Then Brawl came out and I became the whiny bitter bastard I am today. I remember being annoyed at how Ridley was a Master Hand clone and Meta-Ridley didn't fire missiles and how Zero-Suit Samus was a character despite the Zero-Suit sucking in Zero Mission. I remember hating playing on the Metroid stages because of the narration. I remember seeing the Dark Link and Dark Samus event quest and being annoyed that Dark Samus wasn't a Samus alt costume or even color, but instead just a black Samus. I remember Samus being an awful character instead of the badass from Melee. I've mellowed up to some of those things like Zero-Suit Samus, but I think my fanboyism just won't let it go.

I do also remember being happy as hell to see the Fusion Suit and Dark Suit alt colors though. They're great-looking. Thanks Sakurai. Also, Brawl had the Ridley wall grind, a scene so amazing Sakamoto added it to Other M and then used it as one of Ridley's moves in his boss battle. If Ridley ever becomes a playable character and doesn't have a floor grind, I'll be sad.

Other M... Well, to be honest, none of my Metroid-related Smash woes come from Other M. I think the Other M Varia suit actually looks great in Smash 4; it's very sleek and the colors are better than the muddy orange of Brawl's Varia Suit. I don't like Sector 3 because it's another lava room, not because it was where Samus blubbered on the ground. And if Ridley appears in his Other M form, well, the design is ugly, but it's still Ridley!

Also, Project M's version of Samus can crawl in Morph Ball form and uses the sense move to roll. No matter how much I disliked Other M's combat, that's still a really cool idea.

(You do have a point about Orpheon, though. I would have preferred Tallon Overworld, since it was also at the beginning of the game and is much nicer to look at, being outside instead of an interior area. )

I think Phaaze would be an incredibly unique environment for a stage, but I think the days of expecting anything from Prime in Smash are over.

Imagine this Pac-Man course as a Hyrule Temple-sized level. Maybe with a fixed camera like New Pork City.

Pinball effect would be CRAZY.

What are some good Pac-Man movesets people have come up with?

Side-B is easy, he tucks his arms and legs in and goes paku paku paku across the stage.

But what then? What's his recovery? Vertical paku paku paku?

That was one of the first things ruled out IIRC.

It wasn't ruled out entirely, but as with the rest of Nintendo's first party offerings they aren't developing DLC until after the final product is out and Sakurai's quote reflected that. It does seem unlikely though, given the peculiar state of developers.

But what then? What's his recovery?
His limbs disappear and he bounces like a pinball. His standard special could be a Pac-Dot projectile and his down special could summon a ghost. His standard attacks would be belly bumps, battering ram headbutts, butt drops, and flip kicks. His Final Smash would be the Power Pellet which turns everybody blue.

I actually envision his recovery move being his "paku paku paku" (I assume you're referring to him tucking in his arms and legs and chomping along). The way it could work is Up B gets him going but then you can turn him 90 degrees up, down, left or right as he moves through the air, allowing him to change directions as he chases opponents.

His Side B, meanwhile, might launch him like a human canonball... or have him belch up ghosts... or maybe spit power pellets, like watermelon seeds. His Down B could dribble him like a basketball, or maybe chomp and chew opponents.

Maybe Pac-Man can throw fruit across the stage and gain power from eating those fruit. Every tenth fruit would be one of the power-up fruit that makes everyone blue with zig-zag faces and makes him invincible and super-powerful for a short time.

Eh, I have hope. Always have hope.

You know what would be a fantastic stage? One of the pinball tables from Metroid Prime PInball. People would just go "Wha-", but it'd be amazing because any pinball themed stage is amazing. Maybe it could be a Nintendo pinball stage that cycles between different Nintendo Pinball games: Metroid Prime, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, NES Pinball...

It just occurred to me a nice benefit of the two-game format (WiiU and 3DS) is Sonic will get two stages, Mega Man will get two stages, etc. Well, I guess we don't know that for sure, but so far the stages in each game appear to be different from one another. The 3DS ones usually referencing portable games, and the WiiU ones usually referencing consoles.

Huh, I wonder which handheld Metroid game will get a stage. As said before, I'd love to see TRO from Metroid Fusion with developing Ki-Hunters and roots and foliage growing on everything. Maybe the SA-X (Which could just be a reused Samus model) will be walking around in the background.
That isn't Little Mac. It's a human Chucky doll.
Human Chucky doll for Smash 4.
Every time I listen to the Metroid Prime soundtracks, I get crazy nostalgic. Those are some of the greatest soundtracks of all time.

I can see this working similar to the Project M version of R.O.B.'s Up B. He goes a specific distance per segment and has three segments per use. He goes straight up the entire time if you press nothing, but you can control the next two directions after the first blast up if you want to.

Did you know that the original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man? You'd think it was because he looks like a hockey puck but it actually comes from the Japanese phrase 'Paku-Paku,' which means to flap one's mouth open and closed.

That Daisy comic....it hurts. :(

A true alternate daisy costume will have to suffice.

Been awhle since ive been here since the rosalina reveal overhyped me to exaustion. There was actual talk of the game and no goofing around while I was gone...O.o

And I missed another neorice sprite giveaway Dx

Have they confirmed that there won't be any handheld stages on Wii U or vice-versa? Wouldn't there have to be some overlap, otherwise franchises like Pikmin or Wii Fit wouldn't get any representation on 3DS

Metroid Prime Hunters has a lot of cavernous locations filled with various levels of lava~

What will they do with Pokemon on Wii U? A PokePark stage?

Speaking of Brawl in the Family, I like Brawl in the Family. Like most video game webcomics, there are some jokes which aren't very funny unless you know the source material, but I like BitF's sweetness. Most video game webcomics are too cynical and nerd-ragey.

There are some neat places in Orre like Phenac City and the port in XD, and a PokePark stage also sounds fun.

I have to wonder if maybe Waluigi still has a shot, I can still see him being added with a moveset inspired by the Sports and other spinoffs.

Samus isn't into metal, she is more of a new jack swing gal.

He's got a couple elements from SS, but it probably comes down to a cohesive style (and being able to use the model from Brawl as a base).

What are they? I've been looking over the models and I'm having trouble. The bow is def from TP and not SS, same with bombs.

Much less than I remember, apparently. Just the palette. Skyward Sword Link does use TP Link as a base too, so I guess that's where I got my similarities mixed up.

I guess the fact that there is no boomerang (but beetle) is a problem? The beetle would be cool and considering Rosalina's "Bring it all to me" move, I don't see it being that cheap really.

So every newcomer thus far has had a neat CG intro video. I wonder if that will continue. Seems like a lot of work.

Namco has always been pretty good with that stuff though. It's got Tekken team written all over it.
