Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I'm not a fan of the dual-character thing, and I'd be really unhappy to see Chrome and Lucina be a joint character. I'd rather have Lucina be an alternate costume for you know who, and have Chrom be his own character. I would love it if Ike would remain, too.

Fire Emblem is such a great series with awesome characters; I would love for there to be more than two reps this time around.
While I'm a proponent of Chrom & Lucina, I also believe they could be separate characters, with Lucina being an unapologetic clone of Marth (different speeds, hitting power, etc, but same moves). And Robin would be a great third character.

Super Smash Bros. Fire Emblem Edition.
A Fire Emblem fighting game would be amazing. They certainly have enough characters to make it work.

Lucas will be announced for Smash alongside the WiiU VC localization announcement of Mother 3. Believe!

I'd totally buy a Fire Emblem fighting game, there's more than enough characters for it

The problem with FE is that most of the likely characters i.e. the lords of their respective games are all similar. Mostly blue haired swordsmen. Honestly differentiating them enough I feel like it would be somewhat difficult.

Marth, Sigurd, Seliph, Alm, Ike, Roy, Eliwood, Leif, Lyn, Chrom, Lucina. All of these are sword wielding lords. Yeah most of them have some other special characteristics, but I feel like even then it's not enough to completely differentiate them and give a completely unique moveset for the characters. They could always start using things from other noteworthy characters or some other mechanics from the games like warp powder or such, but I don't know.

I love FE and I feel like it should have 3 maybe 4 reps at most. Marth will always be there, and so will be the most recent lord. The other(s) really depends on popularity I guess. Even with lords that might bring a few more unique things like Hector, Micaiah, Ephraim. Those characters are either from old games or just not popular enough to actually become playable.

Blue hair aside, Ike was nothing like Marth in Brawl. Whole different beast in terms of gameplay. If Ike weren't to return, I imagine Chrom would inherit that hard-hitting power.

Lucina could be an acceptable Marth clone -- lighter, faster, floatier, with a more rat-a-tat-tat style of swordplay.

And Robin/Tactician, of course, would mix swordplay with ranged spell-casting, on top of being blonde and being available in both male and female.

I think the lot of them would be quite interesting as Fire Emblem reps.

Seems like a lot went down in here since the last time I was here. Japan Time needs to hurry up and restart because y'all can't handle the off time. :P

On another note, it's cool to see so many people support Lucas as an untouchable now. Lucs was my third most used character in Brawl after Pit and dagawd Marf.

I updated my "everything and the kitchen sink but still practical with the right effort" roster, changing Chrom & Lucina to Chrom, Lucina and Robin.

Again, brings back everyone from Brawl, plus Mewtwo and Roy from Melee:

Lol what're you smoking to think FE will get 6 characters

It was much more "practical" before, honestly. Three FE newcomers who all appeared together in only one game is a little absurd.

He's just taking the shotgun approach.
Yep. And actually, given Fire Emblem's history in Japan and growing popularity worldwide (FEA being their best success yet, IIRC), six reps for FE seems fine on a roster with six Mario reps, eight Zelda reps, 10 Pokémon reps, etc.

Lucina, in this case, would be a Marth clone -- faster, lighter, floatier, etc. She's on the opposite end of her row from Marth, for this reason (and Robin's next to Chrom since he's there from the start).

It's an ideal roster. I'm realistically expecting around 12 newcomers, but here I represented more than 20 selections I see as feasible.

clearly the Wii U's situation calls for a quick release of a light version of SSB4 around Mario Kart's release, featuring the 20 characters already revealed....for $15
you get the full release half off though later :P

(wait, what's going on in here again?)

Super Smash Bros. Prologue? And I get to try both new Marth and Rosalina? My productivity would reach catastrophic lows.

I love how all the rosters have really tame, predictable inclusions aside from Wii Fit Trainer and Villager. Could thwy really be the only ones out of left field?

Sakurai is extremely creative and can redefine what constitutes a Smash character at a moment's notice. It's entirely possible there will be more surprises in store. :)

Characters from established IP are easier to predict than new IPs in Smash, and so far the only character of that kind that we've gotten is the Galaxy duo. I think everyone is certain that newcomers will arrive from Zelda, DK, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon... we just don't know who.

No way. I wouldn't be surprised if we got something completely weird like a playable excitebike character.

I wouldn't mind Excite Biker or Mach Rider. They got Wario and his bike to work, so I don't see why these two couldn't.

Actually, can we get an entire fighting game with people just on motorcycles? That would be tight.

Paper Mario seems like a character that would tickle Sakurai's creative fancy. One moment he's 2D like Mr. Game & Watch, the next he's folding himself into a paper airplane or rolling up into a tube. Seems like the kind of unique character that would attract Sakurai's eye, and also be totally deserving given the prevalence of the Paper Mario series (N64, GameCube, Wii, 3DS).

Electroplankton character :)

An Excitebike character would also be interesting, I'd love to see what Sakurai would do with a character like that.

Is there any generic Dragon Quest hero that they could use? What would they call it? Because Slime would be lame, but if any remaining third party franchise deserves a slot it's Dragon Quest.

What did the first Dragon Quest hero look like?

Edit: Found him

Kind of a badass

Neither Chrom & Lucina nor Robin/Tactician would solve the blue/blonde conundrum, but both could be so unique in terms of gameplay that they would spice things up all the same.

What are you talking about? Robin would most likely have white hair, since that's the default hair color for him/her.

He didn't really have a name, though. DQIX's hero could be called Celestrian, and official art exists for both default male and female. That might be the best choice. Incorporate a Job Change moveset and it could be fairly unique.
