Sony Japan President Teases “Various” Unannounced PS4 Titles; Talks About Expansion in Asia

wtkb.jpg

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia President Hiroshi Kawano has great confidence in the potential of the PS4, feeling that the console will lead to a strong expansion in the Asian market, even thanks to a strong line up at and after launch.
The potential of the Asian market is obviously large, and there’s a promising market there for the future. We’re always looking at Asia and we will continue to seek growth there, where resource management is crucial. Even when you talk to game developers, now they can release simultaneously in Japan and Asia.

When we became “Japan and Asia,” it allowed us to properly develop, present and market ourselves in Asia. The prime example came with the PlayStation Awards 2013 held last December. For the first time we opened the door to voting from Asia. There was really a big reaction. I believe that we’re just getting started, from now on, we’d like to be even more aggressive this year.

Kawano-san also mentioned that the PS4 has a very strong launch line-up in Japan, but even more importantly, it will be further bolstered down the line.
We plan to release new games at a regular pace. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will launch in March, produced by Hideo Kojima. After that, even if I can’t disclose them now, we have various games incoming. We’re currently considering how to announce them, so stay tuned.

Deep Down too, right?

I can't wait to see SCEJ's final fantasy killer and GG's Open world RPG. Those two, along with TLG, are my most anticipated future Sony announcements.

I just hope we'll get a peek of them this year.

Lucky for Japanese gamers that Western devs have put some real effort into the PS4 launch because most of those Japanese games look terrible.

Hell yeahhhhhhhhhhh!! What ive been waiting for! Their asian development team needs to expand immensely to at least match their american brothers.

Ooh I didn't know there was a gundam game in the works for PS4. Here's to hoping it's like Battlefield Record U.C. 0081. That game was great.

A few new IP's would be best imo.

The Last Guardian is obviously a no brainer, but what Sony need is to develop new franchises and bring Japan back to the forefront of gaming, as they have been hidden away for too long.

Just like the 360?

Difference is that the 360 never stood a chance as a brand in Japan. It's very different for Sony. What held the PS3 back initially in Japan was due to a lack of titles and high pricepoint. Once the price drop happened along with the release of games that the Japanese actually wanted, the sales picked up.

He has to tease because its pretty embarrassing how little there is to show at this point. I'm a PS4 importer in Japan but I was hoping that by now I would at least be able to look forward to a few awesome-looking Japanese titles. I MEAN WHAT IS THE POINT OF LIVING IN JAPAN IF NOT TO GET AWESOME GAMES BEFORE OTHER PEOPLE

Japanese centric games are mainly handheld/mobile games. Many big franchises lost their momentum anyway, so its not a big deal if there are no FFs at launch available. I dont think Sony or anybody could develop 20 jrpgs just for launch, they will come in the next one or two years. Japanese devs need to get used to PS4 as well.
