The Kickstr money is not really for paying them or for making the game just for a pre-orderd demand proof.

Because the investor will keep paying them to "finish" the game.

It looks FUCKING AMAZING holy this this is a $25+ million looking game.
But salaries are just so much cheaper in eastern Europe that is why Witcher 3 "only" cost $15 million to make.

On top of that, self-publishing! Since they haven't given much details of their investors other than wanting to know how much interest there is in this project, I hope they have a company in mind for the marketing and distribution. Maybe Devolver Digital for USA, and Deep Silver or Paradox for Europe as some suggestions.
 
not sure about the pledge level
I really love the concept, if this was done by some known developer I'd probably pledge 100+, but from a completely unkown one, not sure.
alpha access is a must

You visit the emperor, who sits alone in the throne hall, and he assigns you with an quest. The land is terrorised by an evil dragon from hell and Lojza is powerless. He has sent an entire imperial army against it, but the monster has killed all five soldiers. Now, he needs a hero like you! You have to find and climb the mystical mountain, Lohen, on which no human has ever set foot, and behead the dragon.

You accept the quest and set out from the town gate. The mystic mountain Lohen is precisely 150 metres from the gate and is about 50 metres high. All of the inhabitants of the city are either retarded, blind or crippled if they have not managed to notice it for centuries. After an approximately 30-metre walk to the mountain, you come to ‘no man’s land’ and are attacked by bandits. During another 120m walk to the peak, you also notice an ancient fortress Rumloch, a secret dungeon of doom and a bandit hideout. At the peak of the mountain, you kill a one-hundred-metre dragon by beating its foot with a rusty sword and drinking potions. Then, you rob the corpses of the imperial army (all five) and on the way back to the castle are killed by a wild boar.

I'm going to be angry if they don't sell physical versions of Act 2/3.
I want all 3 acts sitting on a shelf one day so I can look at them and smile, but I'm not willing to pledge 300+.
 
Why doesn't every game use Cryengine? Jeez.

It would be so bad ass if you could play the game in orginal languages so as to hear the Czech, old silesian German, whatever.... I would play that way every day.

Reading all that makes me wonder (again) just how many potentially great games have been cancelled by fucking publishers...

Really hope this one will get funded and made. It's (some of) the guys who made Mafia, after all O_O

Well, yeah, the combat in KC looks tons better than that in Skyrim. I meant it looks like Skyrim in terms of the setting, the scenery, the kind of characters you'd come across. I really like the idea behind this game.
 
I stepped into this thread without too much hope. My first thought was - bleah, another "realistic" medieval RPG with wizards and dragons. I was surprised. It looks and sounds perfect. Even if it ends up 60% of what it is promised it will still be right up my alley.
So backed like a digital Baron!

I believe any tier that comes with a game is Ps4 tier.
I assume at a later date closer to release you chose what version you want.

Edit: Yes the email sent by KS says at a later date a survey will be sent to let you choose all of this.
 
Dunno if i'll back it up on Kickstarter, but i will definitely buy it when it releases. I'm big fan of FPP games with melee combat and big fan of exploration in games. Medieval setting is just perfect and CryEngine is just icing on the cake.

I imagine the bard will be a warrior with extra charisma perks.

edit: it seems that Knight/Thief/Bard are play styles not classes.

Freedom of choice

Your character is defined by your choices. Your abilities and stats grow depending on what you do. You decide how you want to appear. Every quest can be solved in multiple ways. Branched dialogue trees grant you the freedom to express yourself. Your reputation is based on your choices, and every choice you make carries appropriate consequences. There are no class restrictions, you can do anything you want to.


Stand tall as a brave knight in powerful armor, going it alone or finding allies to lead into battle. Complete quests with brute force. Intimidate and threaten your enemies. Be confident, arrogant, or righteous.

Sneak behind enemy lines as an invisible thief and assassinate the enemy. Stab. Snipe. Strangle from behind. Resolve difficult situations as an invisible phantom, stealing important evidence and threatening people to get information.

Win hearts as a popular bard, persuading nobles with your silver tongue and convincing them to fight one another. Use your wits rather than your muscles to get the job done. Share drinks with people, be the funny guy everyone likes… and then stab your rivals in the back when they least expect it.

Charisma perks are magic, though.

Combat doesn't need any abstraction, because a sword through the gut kills a person. Pretty straightforward.

I'm pretty sure this game isn't going to simulate the building of lasting political relationships over the course of actual years. You're probably going to walk up to a dude, play your lute, and suddenly have a new ally. Just like in real medieval times, am I right?!

We will have to wait and see. But given this teams pessimism for RPG tropes... I would stay rather optimistic.
 
Looks really neat, these sorts of games are getting more popular. I've never played one though. Which one should I try out... ?

This looks amazing, always reluctant to back any Kickstarters though. Will wait this one out and see how I feel before the closing date.

Vávra: This is tricky, and I don’t want to give the wrong impression. The game will not happen if we don’t succeed on Kickstarter. This isn’t a PR stunt or anything. It’s really, if we don’t get the money, it’s game over. We’re not the investor. The investor is someone who, luckily for us, is still believing in the project somehow – but not enough to give us the money now. So it’s not some greedy PR stunt. It really can’t happen without the money. This isn’t just a way to promote the game for free or something.

I really hope doing a UK kickstarter won't stop them from succeeding, I always feel like those move more sluggishly than the USD ones.

In the past like two hours they have basically made 38K Pounds.

I think they will be pretty fine. I really do wish Kickstarter would some how change its international policies. But I am not sure what the legal stuff concerning that is about.

This game looks soooo goood. Thanks, Dennis, for starting the thread.

What a shame they couldn't get a publisher, though on the other hand that may be the best thing for them. They'll be able to create the game how they want.

I love the idea that your horse becomes a weapon to use as well, and it seems like it's going to be a challenge micromanaging everything down to eating and sleeping! Very exciting! I've never backed a Kickstarter before, but I definitely will with this! Gonna go for the Baron (special edition) level.

hope aswell. But for Czech company is much easier to kickstart the game from England than from US. But with 10% funded within 2 hours i think they will be fine
 
If my maths is right, they started development since July 2012.

Our plan was to develop a prototype, pitch it to publishers, and finish development with the subsequent money. We tried to do it that way (and you can read about our experiences on our blog), but in essence, even though everybody we met commended our work, praised our game’s visuals, and believed in our ability to deliver, negotiations would inevitably hit a dead end at the point where the publishers' marketing departments got involved. Why?

"Your game is too niche. There’s no magic. People want wizards and dragons."

We beg to differ. The response from players has always been great. We think gamers like history – look at the success of Total War, Assassin's Creed, Mount and Blade, and Red Dead Redemption. There is no medieval first-person RPG out there, but it does not necessarily follow that nobody wants one - only that there is no easy box for marketing to pigeonhole it in.

That must be so fucking infuriating. It's depressing how often you hear marketing departments taking over and affecting what kind of games get made :(
 
my OCD hates the "act 1, 2 ,3" thing. if act 1 is 30 hours why not just focus on that, and make sequels if it ends up being successful/good?

its too far out for me to pledge but i hope it makes it, and will buy it if it gets made
