Yet another franchise that Sony let slip through their fingers.
After Judgment I'm not sure why they should care.
Yet another franchise that Sony let slip through their fingers.
Well I guess this re re re re re re re re confirms that buttocks was right.
MS's biggest problem is that they're more interested in big franchises then they are the talent behind those franchises. Bungie is what made Halo great and Epic is what made Gears great. They have the IP's but don't have the original studios that made these franchises what they are.
It'd be like Sony buying ND's IP and farming them out to other devs. The talent at ND is the real prize.
Its more likely that they paid out the ass for this deal.
New studio. It consists of people with experience from Capcom Vancouver, EA, Ubisoft, Relic, Crytek and various other studios.Who is Black Tusk anyway? Never heard of them. Are they new or just a rebrand?
Look at 343 taking the Halo IP, it's a shell of it's former self according to tons of fans.
Do you just like to pay attention to only some of their output or what? There's more than just Halo/Gears/Forza just like there's more to Sony than just KZ/UC/GT. No one is arguing that MS puts out more new IP than Sony, but let's not act as if MS doesn't put out anything but the titles I listed.
I would since they're in the same genre. ND made it clear that the original Gears was their main gameplay inspiration for the original UC. I never talked about the development studio behind them, so I'm not sure where this shit you're coming up with is keying off of.
MS desperately clinging to the same IPs year after year.
Guessing this is what's killing gaf? Sounds like what happened with Halo to be honest. Although I have hopes for Black tusk as they sound competent
Sorry, but are you implying that 343i isn't competent haha?Guessing this is what's killing gaf? Sounds like what happened with Halo to be honest. Although I have hopes for Black tusk as they sound competent
I don't agree with that at all.
This is a good post. The companies behind the IP's made them what they are, separating the name from the genius behind it rarely works out great.

When did (s)he claim that MS would buy the rights of Gears and Black Tusk would work on it ?
I do (MP wise, campaign was solid), but I don't agree that it was entirely 343's fault. The downturn began with Halo Reach, and 343 just continued towards the direction that Bungie was headed to starting with Reach MP.
Long time Halo fan here:
I disagree whole heartily with this comment.
First of all, to a lot of fans, Halo started to become a former self of itself with Halo Reach. Hell, 343i actually made a patch for Reach that basically improved the whole game.
343i also took a lot of risk and tried out different things in Halo 4. Not only that, but in quite a few places they surpassed Bungie IMO.
Depending on Halo 5, we'll see what happens to the franchise. They have experience as a team now, they have plenty of feedback on Halo 4, and now we'll see if this franchise can reach new heights or not.
Gotta give MS props- they're building a nice stable if AAA exclusives. For people like me
With both consoles this is the kind of stuff you wanna see.
It wasn't entirely their fault. I actually enjoyed MP more than any other entry, but I am probably in the minority.
Not seeing why this news is so big.
Next Gears could be amazing or a fart in the wind. Seems way too early for me to tell anyway.
What if Epic sold the ip to Microsoft and now are making their next game exclusive for Sony? Weren't there rumors of Epic making a game for PS4 at one point last year? Feel bad for Black Tusk creatively. They are gonna be stuck on this franchise forever now. MS won't let them make anything else.
Microsoft throwing money around again for more exclusives. It doesn't surprise me.
Gears of War has definitely overstayed its welcome with me. Played the first one a lot, beat the second one, played the third one just a bit and played one game of Judgement online, I believe. Its been in steady decline in my eyes for awhile.
Why are people writing Black Tusk off? Let them release a game first and judge them on that. It sucks that the concept they showed at E# is getting shelved, but if they can make Gears great again, I won't mind. I will say Phil Spencer kinda contradicts his earlier statements that Gears will be given a long break.
I see people got high hopes for Black Tusk or are they just getting along with the hype?
Yeah. MS purchasing a 22 million copy selling franchise isn't big news. I agree.
