Doubtful this is killing GAF. This is not megaton material.
For the wrong reasons.

Not saying it wasn't still expensive, just saying it was probably far less expensive than it would have been in GoW's heyday.
Remember, along with Halo, it used to be one of the biggest reasons to own an Xbox. Really can't say that these days.
Past sales don't mean much.
What if MS would buy the Guitar Hero franchise?
Am I supposed to be hyped for its past successes?Yeah. MS purchasing a 22 million copy selling franchise isn't big news. I agree.
All teasing yesterday for this?
Lol.

Eh, not exactly the most exciting news, unless of course they take Gears in a new, more exciting direction. Gears kind of never felt the same to me after the first title.
I'll say this much, though, I'm incredibly surprised by this. I was almost 100% certain that this game would end up as a multi-platform game or even a possible PS4 exclusive... just a strong belief that I had. Anyway, of all the things I was looking forward to this gen, a new gears wasn't exactly one of them, so I hope Black Tusk can surprise me.
A reboot? Oh man.I'm actually shocked that it took this long. Hopefully they can do an actual good reboot now.

What should I be expecting from this series moving forward?
A gory, cel-shaded Gears would be legit IMO.

How GEARS X1 can be a massive killer app for the X1
- Make a massive killer app
Hah, I was just posting "Gears of Mad World"
Yes, I don't see how its big news to buy something after it has seemingly run its course. But count me in with the "Gears needs a break, for its own sake" club.Doesn't matter if you're not hyped. You said it wasn't big news.
So Black Tusk is the new 343i, a developer created at great expense for the specific task of churning out new games in a safe (some might say stale) franchise.
Might be exciting for Gears fans but it sucks for everyone else.
After Judgment I'm not sure why they should care.

Do people still care about God of War? Because from the games media people I listen to the answer seems to be no.Just like no one cares about GoW after Ascension, right?
Are you being sarcastic? Yes Acension hurt the God of War brand. Yes Judgement hurt the Gears of War brand. No one cares is a hyperbolic statement but but they certainly lessened the fan base or their fervour for another game. What is there to argue here?Just like no one cares about GoW after Ascension, right?

MS bought something though. Thats nice.
As a ps4 owner who doesn't want to buy a one, this news pleases me. I thought it was going to be something I cared about
I dont know the point of this comment
On the other hand, video game IPs rarely change hands in this manner. Certainly not ones of this magnitude. Yes Judgment was a downturn for the series, but it was still a billion dollar franchise last gen. Considering Epic has no reason to sell the series, and the position that MS is currently in, I'd be shocked if they didn't get completely hosed on this deal.

Long time Halo fan here:
I disagree whole heartily with this comment.
First of all, to a lot of fans, Halo started to become a former self of itself with Halo Reach. Hell, 343i actually made a patch for Reach that basically improved the whole game.
343i also took a lot of risk and tried out different things in Halo 4. Not only that, but in quite a few places they surpassed Bungie IMO.
Depending on Halo 5, we'll see what happens to the franchise. They have experience as a team now, they have plenty of feedback on Halo 4, and now we'll see if this franchise can reach new heights or not.
That's my hope. Rather disappointed that they didn't get to try starting a new IPI am not a huge fan of the series, but I am still hopeful that a new team with new hardware can make it fresh again. It's a clean slate as far as I'm concerned. I hope Microsoft will let them go in bold and take some risks.
