Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I don't get it. Yoshi hits Fox in the air and get hits him in the air. Isn't that basic Smash gameplay?

He reads foxes extremely low nair, countering with a risky dair that he combos into a KO. Also, it's yoshi vs. fox.

That's my read anyway. I'm not a melee expert.

Y'know, Sakurai should have given that item to Link for his moveset.

At least then he'd have a decent recovery.

Oh, and yeah, Apex 2014 was so hype.

Hey SmashGAF, lets make some

Next character reveal bets

One bet per person, just one character. Can be either veteran or new. Multiple users can bet on the same characters. This applies to both playable and assist trophy characters. You can also bet if they are are going to be one way or the other if you wish to, but it isn't required.
Bold your username and character and space them with a spaced dash so I can keep track of them, just like this:

Heyt - Diddy Kong

Will put the list when there are enough people participating, will keep for future reference, of course!
Winners will get a special little badge on their avatars each time they gess correctly, if they want to brag about it. Let's see how many badges can we get.
Each time a character is revealed the list restarts, so keep betting to continue playing, even if you are going to bet on the same character than the last time.

So many are going to say Diddy Kong and it's likely to be right and nothing happens. If you include Assist trophies it could spice things up a bit.

Guys, I've been using the Wii U Pro Controller on PC via Dolphin to play the Smash Bros. games and I have to say this is honestly a step down for a controller for Smash Bros. I don't usually make mistakes with controllers and easily become accustomed to them, I mean I I've played Smash Bros. with the 360 controller, classic controller and even the PS3 controller, but this one, for smash, may even be a lower point than the classic controller simply due to the right side's stick placement. The Left stick can be put anywhere and it'll be OK, but the right stick is where you use your C-Stick moves, I find that the distance being further away actually makes it more difficult to Up C-Stick, or using C-Stick in-general. If feels as if it's a nuisance to even do these. I figure the Wii U Game Pad will be better at this, but I doubt it'll be ground-breaking as an improvement.

I understand the Game Pad having the two analog sticks at top, but there was really no reason to have both at the top on a controller. I like this controller but it certainly isn't a Smash controller if you plan on using the C-Stick.

I really wish Nintendo would release official Gamecube styled controllers for the Wii U. Would make so much money to coincide with the game's launch.

Here's hoping mew2king makes dat cool mod though.

If all else fails with me being able to adapt to the Pro Controller (which I actually really like, but then again, I am heavily C-Stick dependant even with all my aerials), then I'd probably look for that third party GameCube adapter that's floating around the internet.

This reminds me that yesterday I watched this things that the pros want for smash 4 and they mention a wired controller.

Does the WiiU even have a controller port ?

I heard good things from raphnet-tech's Gamecube to Wii Remote adapted controllers, but it is still too early to tell if it would work for Smash WiiU.

I'm all for the GC controller, but what I'm not all for is everyone crying for the game to be like Melee. Let Sakurai do what he wants. Let him create a Galaxy level where you are literally fighting on a planetoid sphere with gravitational pull and the only deaths can be vertical. (GO ON, POST IT. I KNOW YOU WANT TO.)

Yeah, the GameCube controller feels like it was made for Smash. It's pretty much perfect.

That said, I'll live if the Wii U Pro Controller is my only option. It's comfortable.

Options are a nice thing. Can't people play how they want to play?

No has played the game yet. I'm just saying you should probably just give the game a try with the controllers already available before saying we need a one off controller for one game. For all we know the game might feel nicer with the GamePad.

And what's going to happen with the 3DS eh?

We can test Smash Bros games on Dolphin with the Wii U Pro controller and that's telling enough.

Probably by not much. But you also have to remember that the Wii U (atm) only supports one GamePad. And this is a multiplayer title so yeah.

And what's going to happen with the 3DS eh?
I think a lot of people (including me) are concerned about that. I wonder if the physics/gameplay is going to change up a bit with the 3DS's input in mind.

I personally use Mayflash's Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter, and my wired GameCube controllers work pretty good with my Wii U (I haven't noticed any input lag).

Despite this though, I'm still going to give my Wii U Pro Controller a shot. If not just for the fact that the Pro Controller would have rumble.

Edgeguarding Falco/Fox in the flashiest ways with Marth is still some of the most fun I ever have in Smash Bros.

Their high falling speed means going low off-stage to get early kills, and I love it.

Eh. I'm just saying take a wait and see approach before assuming one needs a GameCube controller esque input device. The fact neither of the two systems support the GCN controllers natively means they'll have to rethink the controls of the games since they can't just lazily fall back onto the safety net like they did with Brawl.

People seem more concerned with how the Wii U version will play when everyone should be more worried about the 3DS version.

Yeah, I'm more concerned with 3DS than I'm with Wii U. I'm still afraid that I would play too much on 3DS during my free time, and it might ended up wore out my 3DS. That's why I'm serious about considering to invest for 2DS, just for Smash. Few positive things would come out for 2DS is that I don't have to worry about freeing up spaces for my friend list on my friend list since Smash 2DS would have it's own.

That's one of best method to do. Wait and see if Wii U Pro is good enough for us or not. I still love GameCube Controller but I would make a move if I have to.

There is nothing more hype than grab loops and nothing more satisfying than a good spike from Marf.

(Can someone gif these?)
I can't help you there, but this is kinda relevant:

Haven't really watched tournament videos before, but those were actually really fun to watch.

The commentary was fun too.
Better than the dude who makes me mute that megaman v.s. mario ssb4 match whenever I watch it..

I've always liked the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo for Smash, but I'll probably just use the Pro Controller for the Wii U one.

But there was a tutorial for sword controls?

Where? You just pick up the sword and that's it. It doesn't touch upon anything regarding the combat which is why I got thrown off when I was suddenly expected to perform quick-handed feints against the Bokoblins.

The game does force you to use the training hall iirc to get your first sword in order to cut the wood blocking the way to your bird thing before the race

You first have the sparring hall (which is optional, but if you skipped it and then struggled with the controls, well maybe you shouldn't skip it) and then the cave to rescue the bird. Not everything has to presented as a tutorial. It's weird, because Zelda often gets criticised for too many tutorials and hand-holding but here we're having the opposite complaint.
