Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I had a Smash Bros dream last night. It involved a re-reveal of Snake, before shifting to a reveal of Raiden cutting through various characters (no blood of course) while "Rules of Nature" played. It was awesome.

Then I woke up and saw Lucario, which was awesome in its own right. He's the most DBZ-like character that Nintendo has ever had, which is fine with me. Makes him fun.

Now, Do you think he will Mega Evolve? They dont even have to do much. He Mega Evolves in his Final Smash and still does his beam. Just spread the radius a bit and make it a little stronger.

I like my Lucario to work out every now and then; keeps him in shape.

you want him to come? I'm not really a fan tbh, one character in brawl i wouldn't mind being omitted and snake as well

People are expecting Snake? That always seemed to be a one shot deal to me. I always thought that it was just a marketing ploy by Kojima to enhance hype for Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots.

Ugh, hate Lucario, especially because they brought back that terrible Aura mechanic. Starts out as a nerfed character every stock, gets rewarded for getting hit instead of getting rewarded for hitting the other person -- so backwards. And it looks like he still has that awful Down B counter (Double Team), I mean, really Sakurai? I guess I expect too much veteran changes but I expected if Lucario was back that the Aura mechanc would change but nope its effect is only going to get stronger -_-

Dumb character and now people are going to be stupid and say, "Mewtwo deconfirmed!11!!1111111!1!!1" everywhere...

Why you are not fan of Wolf?

Even though his moveset is quite different compared to fox and falco and he plays differently(slower, heavier etc..), i feel like he retreads the same waters too much. If he gets included i hope they at least differentiate the specials a lot more(not 3 landmasters).

Why you are not fan of Wolf?

I feel the same way, really. He always just felt superfluous to me after Fox and Falco. I still think Krystal would have been a far more interesting third Star Fox character gameplay/moveset-wise, and I think she still could be too. I'm definitely holding out hope that she makes it in this time around, especially with Sakurai's apparent focus on including more female characters in Smash 4's roster.

I think Wolf's problem is that for many he was the final unlockable character and he felt like a bit of a let down in that regard.

You're gonna get Ness and Fox.

Ness I could be okay with, but Fox is a no-go. Been a Falco main since Melee and the addition of the reflector kick in Brawl was awesome. Can't do Fox, or Wolf for that matter.

I think the Aura balances out since the more damage you take the easier it becomes to kill him, too. You have to be good with him and be able to dodge at high damage levels to even use Aura effectively. I don't see why it's so bad, makes Lucario unique.

Not too plussed about the aura concept. Rewarding someone for taking damage is stupid... it's dumb for both players, really, because the Lucario player needs to take damage to take advantage of his ability.

And it's just another case of Sakurai making up a concept on the fly, like Ness learning PK Thunder and whatnot. (Lucario doesn't fight that way in the Pokemon games...)

Good reason for y'all to bring Project Melee U to Wii U, to make Lucario more glorious. :P

I understand your point but would it be better if you get rid of Falco because Falco is more similar to Fox than Wolf was.

because it essentially dooms him from being any higher than mid tier, because that's inherently bad

Wolf is still the most unique out of them, though. Falco--even though being decloned in Brawl--is still much closer to Fox than Wolf could ever be.

Every single attack of his is completely different apart from his specials. Every aerial, every tilt, every smash attack.

Wolf Flash (side b) should stay. It's his best recovery when cancelled, and a great attack if used in the right, situational moments.

They should change his Fire Wolf (up-b), which is an absolutely terrible attack and recovery. His Blaster and Reflector could be changed, but they aid his playstyle very well, and it'd be a pointless change anyway.

Wolf Defense Force

The thing is, Aura inherently means he'll be bad at the start of every match and every stock -- the match is already not in his favor. He'll always be mediocre because the mechanic is limiting his potential from being a normal character. He could still be unique if the mechanic was reversed, the more Lucario does damage to the opponent the stronger he gets. But instead he has to take damage in order to be good and by the time he has taken enough damage, the match is likely already in the other person's favor.

It's a bad mechanic, inherently flawed and it baffles me why Sakurai brought it back other than out of stubbornness (would explain making the effect stronger).

I'm all for uniqueness but not if it jeopardizes how good a character can be and in Lucario's case it makes him mediocre no matter what move set adjustments you make.

Gen I - Pikachu, Mewtwo?, Jigglypuff?
Gen II -
Gen III -
Gen IV - Lucario
Gen V -
Gen VI - Mega Lucario? Mega Mewtwo?

I'm all for #TeamNoCuts, in the sense that I'm hoping everyone -- except, I guess, for Young Link (because of Toon), Dr. Mario (should be a costume), and maybe Pichu (unless Pichu Bros.) --, but with the way things are going, I fear for Red's chances. Granted, I was expecting (not wanting) Lucario to be cut as well, but with how many potential Gen I reps there are, I fear Sakurai may replace him with a different Pokémon Trainer.

N with Zoroark, Scizor, Shiftry and Reshiram/Zekrom as Final Smash is quite easy to see.

PT is my Brawl main. :(

If it was just a marketing ploy they can bring him back because of The Phantom Pain.

Fuck yea, Lucario is one of my favorite Pokemon.

Just wanted to point out this:

Some people thought that the Yellow Devil was some sort of boss and not a stage hazard (could still be an assist trophy I guess). It shows 3 characters, so it confirms that it isn't a boss in some sort of boss mode.

And the reactions going like "ugh, a veteran has come back..." is so dumb.

There are ways to balance it though. Make it cap out pretty low, like at 50%, or make there be another way to increase it without getting hurt, such as via a taunt, or by charging his aura sphere to maximum or something.

Will they do that? Dunno.

I thought that the miiverse post where it clearly shows yellow devil in the background proved it was a stage hazard?

Ah, wonderful. Lucario was one of the ones I feared would be cut. I have mixed feelings about Aura but I'm glad that we kept a character with a unique fighting style.

lol, I don't know why I said it could be an assist trophy even though I knew about the fact the Yellow Devil was in the background.

Anyways, some people thought it could be a co-op boss mode.

Unless they now made it possible for more than 2 people to do boss mode, it is pretty much confirmed as a stage hazard.

I see zero reasons to cut Wolf, same with R.O.B. People are still salty over the fact that they were the last characters to be revealed and not Ridley.

Which version do y'all think you will be playing more?

I have a feeling it will be the 3DS version for me since I can bring it everywhere with me :)

Glad they seem to be trying not to cut anyone, I still hope they make room for some new Pokemon though. Even a new Pokemon trainer or something.

I hope the lack of cuts don't mean they're going to add less newcomers.

Then again, I don't mind if they keep Ike so I can see the epic battle between him and Chrom. :)

It'll be about even between 3DS and Wii U, since I'm content to dick around with the computer, 3DS is for when someone actually wants to fight me.

Well IntelliHeath pointed out something interesting, and I don't think it has been mentioned before.

Pokemon, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, and Kirby don't have stages revealed from their series for either Smash Wii U or 3DS.

They'll definitely be revealed in the future, but I thought it was interesting that none of those series have had stages yet.
