You can't compare a relevant character like Link to someone like Falco.
I'm not saying Falco isn't in the game, but I don't think he's secured a spot either.

I think you ignored everyone's response. So, how is Toon Link more relevant than Falco?
They're clearly based on the same image. That's what 30 minutes of Photoshop will get you.

Brawl Fox and Smash 4 Fox are pretty darn similar.
Convincingly lay his SSB4 render over a Brawl screen shot and then we'll talk. The source of the Falco fake was found almost instantly.
I'm not saying it is real, but there's no dead giveaway that it's fake either.
It looks like graphical upgrade, yet similar enough to look a lot like the Brawl counterpart, exactly like fox.
What I really notice is the neck. It's vastly better in the "leaked" picture, and looks pretty much exactly like Fox's neck when it comes to lighting and the scarf.

The renders are much more high quality than the models themselves. The SSB4 renders all look great, so why would Falco's look like a slightly modified Brawl screen shot? The leak is stylistically closer to Brawl than SSB4. I'm more than 100% convinced that Falco's actual render won't look anything like that.
Didn't Falco get added in earlier than Wolf? I only assume this because Falco had a large role in Subspace and Wolf did not.

Yeah, it doesn't matter. I'm just positive the leak is BS. (I'm getting sick of these "leaks" in general, honestly.)
The point is that we have no idea what the dev team's priority list looks like, other than that it clearly isn't sorted "unique characters at the top, clones at the bottom!" Falco's got two games of seniority going for him, does that make a difference? Maybe! It's impossible to tell.
I vote the 1st one. Ridley has had his time to shine in the titles.

To me, that Falco image sticks out compared to the rest of those renders. It just looks off, plus the whole situation around that "leak" is confusing. Why would Falco just pop up, and we only have a JPG screen capture for proof?

It hasn't even entered my head people would think Falco had a chance to be cut. That's just being silly. He's a staple of two Smash Bros games and popular enough to be a major character in the Subspace and in Brawl's design right from the start.
There probably hasn't even been a question to the Smash 4 dev team on if he's coming back or not. They probably designed him just as they would Ice Climbers or Sheik or some other very obviously returning Melee newcomer.

God I hate Fox's ugly ass boots and head shape. Want the older design so bad
No way. Leaks and fake leaks are the best. They're like little puzzles. Trying to tear them apart or waiting for them to be revealed to be fake is part of the smash bros cycle. So fun!

Waiting on Yoshi's Universal Revelation....okay so Yarning for Yoshi is probably the right choice if it has to be Yoshi based.
I like the Ridley one. But why does it gotta be Yoshi based? Yoshi's inevitably gonna get revealed on New Island day.

I think the head is fine but overall all his boots were not really that good looking to begin with.
snes -probably my fave. I like that they actually look like robot legs. still not really lookers and would look really weird in smash today.

I like to imagine that a Kamiya Star Fox would bring back the robo-legs and allow Fox to do all sorts of stylish character action (although the bulk of the game's focus would be squarely on vehicle segments). Fox could have a jackhammer kick, missile launchers in his legs, a super-jump, thruster-powered double-jump and more.

I don't think they ever really got rid of the robot legs, so much as they just covered them up with ugly boots.
I hope the idea with the robo-legs is that Fox and company willingly augmented themselves for enhanced combat prowess, and not that it's, like, how non-human animals wound up colonizing the stars, lol.

Fox's boots in SSB4 are the best they've ever looked. Looking at Fox closely in trailers made me decide this.
