Zelda Ocarina of Time 60fps vs. 20fps is such a massive difference

Watson's been asking about you, says Moriarty is on the loose again.

How is the performance on NSO? It plays on at least 30 or it just mimicks the original hardware? It would be nice if Nintendo added the option to put some N64 games at 60 fps.

I've replayed the game more than 10 times so playing it at 120 FPS breathed some new life into it for my routine-ish playthrough every 3 to 5 years.

The problem isn't just the fps. Games from the N64/PSX era could afford to have such low fps and still be playable because they used much simpler graphics engines that ran directly on low-level hardware, without additional buffers, shaders, post-processing, etc. A game running at 20 fps (50ms) could have the same latency as a modern game running at 60 fps.

But the framerate still sucked.

There's a reason Nintendo chose 60fps (50fps in PAL regions) for F-Zero X. That game played much better than Extreme-G with its low framerate.

I would think you can with PC recompile. Maybe we will see some higher definition textures at some point.
Oh no, you can. I was being facetious. I think the one I went with was based on the 3DS textures. I also modded in the uncensored fire temple theme.

That's true, but the debate about fps is much more relevant in modern games than in those of the 1990s. A modern game at 30 fps often feels sluggish and negatively affects gameplay.

I disagree. PC games like Whacky Wheels or Skunny Kart were much worse than Super Mario Kart simply because of the lower framerate.

It's so weird, because the 60 FPS version is how I remember it in my brain.

Was my vision 15 FPS in 1998???

Didn't you see the difference, even back in the day?

I put OoT into my N64 and recognized immediately that the framerate was much lower than that of Mario 64.

It's crazy, right!? I misremember playing it growing up - in that it ran at 60fps. I recently started a playthrough of Majora's Mask using the 2Ship2Harkinian decomp after first trying via Project64. I cranked that baby up to 100 fps (from I think a default of 30 fps) and boy did it make a difference. So much better, buttery smooth. The only way to fly.

At no point did I say that a high frame rate wasn't better or felt better, but that a modern game at 20fps would be literally unplayable due to input lag.

this is literally a thread for opinions on 60fps vs who gives a shit

I didn't realize it was a big circle jerk.
It's not a circle jerk, but posting dumb shit like this "new generation of gamer is insufferable" for wanting higher than 20fps is gonna get you some shit flung your way

I was exaggerating a bit, but I was a teenager and probably didn't care back then. I played this game like crazy!

I can't play games like that now lol

The frames can go up but nothing can roll back the clock to playing this back in 1998.

You can lay on all the CRT filters and Nvidia Gayworks you want - you simply had to be there.
