Great work to everyone who organized this, much appreciated.

The overall list is as mainstream as it can get, at least KCD2 and Trails got some good mentions. Hades 2 is almost completely absent.

Nice work with these. I'm not surprised with the first two overall for goty but I am with the 3rd one. I didn't see anyone talk about this game too much and didn't think it was even in the conversation for goty.

Ironic that Ghost of Yotei won something on gaf considering how many here were against its protagonist and her political views and were boycotting it. Havent played it yet, but as long as a game is good, ultimately nobody cares if the main protagonist has big fat tits or is ugly. As for Clair, guess it's the most awarded game on gaf of all time? Dont remember other games winning in so many categories.

Clair dominating! Good to see Dispatch getting a few mentions (it was my personal GOTY) and Trails at least making third place a few times.

I'm glad to see Mario Kart World get some recognition for it's >200 piece OST. So many pieces that had never received an official arrangement got one for this game, and most are excellent.

Expedition 33 getting the respects time and best 1st hour award is hilarious considering how it starts. It put me to sleep before even the tutorial was over.
Just checked my playtime, 1h40m
NOT deserved!

Total dominance for Expedition Tree-Triddy.

Xenoblade X came second in "game that deserves a sequel" and third in "game I didn't play." Those are pretty good together I guess, people can tell it's great without even playing.

I don't like that Silksong didn't take #1 in any category. Bad GAF.

Very deservedly won most difficult game!

The soundtrack is exactly what a whole world of Mario Kart would sound like, at least. Sometimes I'm listening to catchy song and I suddenly realize its from a super old Mario game and the track hasn't been rearranged in 30 years, its awesome

Oh you're right, somehow I missed that.

My boy KCD2 didn't win GOTY, but it lost to my second favorite game of 2025, so I'll allow it. Two great games!

Also, because Hell is Us came in 3rd in the most underrated category, that akshually means it won.

cormack12 cormack12 , thanks for leading the charge and doing the work for this!

I know it is a tiny category, but Split Fiction is couch co-op not really multiplayer. It was certainly the best couch co-op of the year. Are there enough of these games to put a category of them in future polls? I love playing them with my kids. Often co-op is just an included mode that gets ignored by many players, having the category could bring attention to games that people aren't aware that have a fun couch co-op element. I never even thought about these games until my kids got old enough to use a controller. It's not just the big co-op only games, its the co-op mode that should be the category. Best Couch Co-op experience. This year, Mario Tennis might offer a good couch co-op experience. To prove my point above, I actually preordered it a week or so ago and didn't even realize I could play in co-op until looking it up now.

I certainly look at these lists for backlog fodder. Like it's pushing me closer to getting KCD2.

From an awards point of view, it has to be the most unlucky year to have been releasing a game without 33 in the title.

Me either and not a good year in general IMO.
Yeah, quite a list of "not for me" titles present, lol. But I learned to live with that a long time ago. There were quite a few titles I enjoyed quite a bit not even present here, or in any big "GOTY" discussions for that matter. But that's more than fine to me.

Arc Raiders for best shooter and multiplayer is correct. Loved Split Fiction too. Tainted Grail getting some love as well. Nice work guys.

Nightreign not making the podium for most difficult is testament to it not being popular on GAF. Base bosses are tough, then they have souped-up Everdark versions. And that's before getting into Deep of Night, which ramps up the difficulty using an earned-points system similar to Bronze/Silver/Gold ELOs in multiplayer shooters while significantly increasing the stats of enemies at each level, up to a max of 5.

Surely Silksong isn't THAT difficult.
