Hopefully it is less nihilistic as the last few, but we'll see.
I think a better tack would have been to explore the nostalgia angle of an older Andy trying to re-collect his OG toys and instill the love of them into his own kids instead of more never aging Bonnie, but what do I know.

Joan Cusack is 63, Tom Hanks 69, Tim Allen is 73. Toy Story was THIRTY years ago.
Good on them for advancing the narrative and not just remaking the earlier films, I guess.....

I still feel like the ending of TS3 was the perfect place to stop, but Pixar's animation quality is just on another level here. The concept of toys vs tech is relevant, but I really hope they have a solid reason to bring Woody back without ruining his arc from the last movie.

There's a hook with new tech, but is there a story? Lots of snippets in the trailer look very similar to the earlier movies and sounds like it could just be a retread with a slightly different flavour of modern tech.
The idea that J jason10mm touted with Andy doing a nostalgia thing would have been a potentially great approach, given that it's been 30 years since the OG, there's an audience that it would speak to. I literally just got a message from a mate who's dug out his old Transformers and sent me a photo of his Optimus Prime.

Andy could be the late millennial collecting the toys from his childhood and trying to make his little girl like them while she's all about the wondrous tablet her family gifted her.
Anyway. I kinda like the premise and the trailer. But Joan Cusack does sound pretty old and tired here.

I kinda like the hook of trying to defeat tablets and AI or whatever. I hope the overall story is good, though.

1,2, and 3 were all excellent. Never bothered with 4 and I'm sure I'll not see this one either. Is everyone really proud of me?
Jokes aside, I think the last Pixar film I saw was Inside Out (or Incredibles 2, whichever came last), and it was fine, but obviously it was the point where I realized I was no longer interested in what they were doing. Which is a shame because for awhile there, Pixar had the absolute Midas touch, and everything they made was worthy of serious conversation. I guess nothing lasts forever.

I dunno... it seems like Pixar has been kicking around this smart tablet script since at least Toy Story 4 in 2019.
ironic though, given that Pixar was owned by Apple, and Steve Jobs was one of the executive producers on the original Toy Story.
Things have come full circle.

This is not much different from the first Toy Story concept, except they are using modern concepts. Might end up on the same level as the new trilogy of Star Wars with the whole Palpatine return, Death Star but bigger, etc.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's a tiny part of this. At 6 they probably should. Usually the worry is a high number alienates new audiences but hey, 5 is here!
Also, with 2 they had the mad collector which touched on those type of fans. So I think Andy becoming nostalgic would make for a great family movie should he have his own kid. Could be Bonnie returns it because it's so expensive for Andy to get/wants his original one back.
Anyway, thinking ahead...

Disney voice acting usually has a first refusal clause meaning they have to offer the role to the original actor no matter what, that's why James Woods still got to voice Hades in KH stuff despite him being nuts on social media these days.
