Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green coming to Nintendo Switch February 27 for $19.99

I'd love to cross reference some of these posts with the threads regarding studio closures. Don't wanna pay nuthin' but get pissy when your favorite studio shuts down.

Every old game ever should be $5 no matter ever! Those studios can afford it cause they already made their money back! Now that I think about it, why aren't they just free? Why do we have to live this way for simple entertainment? Why isn't someone in the world out there providing their effort and labor for free?! They are so greedy for charging at all! But greedy we are not for simply wanting to keep more of our own money!

I live in South Central Los Angeles. Grocery stores get robbed out of business and then the same stealers and dealers get on the news screaming, "where are we gonna get our food?!" That's half of ya'll.

I'm just going to not buy Pokemon. I don't care to play it so I won't pay it.

Totally. I would totally recomment Black White since its as well my favorite pokemon game of all time and I believe to the best ones too.

Same. B&W were incredible. Then B&W2 took it to the next level. Absolutely peak Pokémon.

I'm pretty sure the remake will be coming in the next two years. Believe.

$20 ?????

$20 is a steal given Pokemon home support

Pokémon Home support that may be added in the future, at some point, possibly. Right now, it's $20 for a straight up, unimproved, 21 year old ROM dump.

I have no faith in them making good on their Pokémon Home support claims. Know why? Because Legends Z-A, their current flagship product, has been out 4.5 months and still doesn't have Pokémon Home access. But they promise it'll be coming sometime in 2026. 🙄

Also, the fact you're defending this inflated price by pointing to a service that costs another subscription fee to have full access to is wild.

People would complain if it was 10, if it was 5 and even if it was part of NSO, since the logic is old = free. It's pointless to argue against and just performative.

And not even Nintendo cares that you emulate anything older than the 3DS. So just do it, like you could at any point in the last decade or so.

But since the guy said he was total newbie for Pokemon, I prefer suggesting him to start with the classic ones so he can grasp the basics about pokemon. Once he hook up to the franchise, I would 100% reccomend him to play B/W.
It's been a long time since I've played a lot of them, but I don't remember any of them being unfriendly to new players. I've always thought of them as designed to be someone's first game and would be a fine to recommend in a general sense. Maybe I'm just misremembering. B/W is possibly my favourite, too. Such a good game.

I think that's a little disingenuous. As people have understandably pointed out (e.g. post #152), the current price for a straight ROM dump port is excessive on a level playing field of Nintendo's own history for games. Games usually go down over time, not down then back up again.

There's no consumer friendly way to justify it, and the only possible explanation I can think of is that Nintendo thinks it would create too strong of a competitor to the current gen offerings that cost substantially more.

I think $10 wouldn't be seen as particularly unreasonable, and $5 would likely be impulse buy territory. But there's not a chance I would pay $20 for a 22 year old GBA game - that's daylight robbery.

For comparison's sake, I have both the Castlevania Advance Collection and the Dominus Collection on Steam. That's 4 games in each collection (with DC having 2 DS games) with enhancements and extras as well as multiple region version for each game, for $25 a piece. Both are frequently on sale for far less.

tl;dr this price point is poorly chosen when compared to both other GBA games for sale and compared to Nintendo's own pricing history, and is only justifiable internally for Nintendo by not wanting the value make their current games look bad.

But if you check the thread, barely anyone is asking for lower price, most people say it should be free because you can pirate it and because it's old. I think the thread would look exactly the same with a 10€ price point - and Nintendo will never go below that.

I also don't see how a lower price would make RG compete with current modern Pokémon games, this is for people nostalgic of those games. You won't get modern kids to play those as an alternative to SV or Legends, who discover the franchise now through the new series on Netflix.

I rescanned the thread. There are a few people talking about playing for free. There are far more posts saying 20 is too much. I really don't think half as many people would complain at 10, you can chalk that up to inflation and not feel like you're getting ripped off.

If not a comparative issue, what could Nintendo's reasoning be other than sheer greed?

If you want a remake of B/W&B2/W2 I'm gonna be elitist and say you aren't a real fan. The quality will be GARBAGE.

Depends.

If it's like the HG/SS or OR/AS then it'll be a worthy remake.

If it's going to be like BD/SP then I'd rather they not bother.

What a missed opportunity to remake these like they did with Link's Awakening, especially for the 30th anniversary

I hold zero hope for anything good on Zelda's 40th

I'm officially weak. Bought one of each, one for me and one for the wife. Shame on me. On the other hand, she's never played Pokemon before, and she seems to be enjoying it, so… win?

But if HeartGold and SoulSilver come out for $60 apiece, blame me.

You could have paid zero and played on you Phone, then used these $40 to eat something with wife.
