Neo Geo AES+ pre order sales have shattered all expectations

I do wonder if they announce NEW games for this. They can of course release them elsewhere as well.

But, if they announce NEW titles as well.

DANG man, D…A…N…G…

If this thing for example got a new fighting game, golf game, hockey or football game, and an RPG. Good lord, this could be a huge hit.

Side note: I believe the investment from the current owners of SNK was around $100 million USD. While, I scoffed at the time, now I look at Nintendo and Sega and say "what if"…what if Nintendo or Sega would have added the SNK Catalog to theirs.

Interesting thoughts…

What kind of annoys me about this is that the new carts are not really worth what they are asking for.
The required components should be a lot cheaper now.
There is a large markup here.

I am hoping this 161 in 1 cart I just ordered work on the new system.

They didn't expect this much interest, so the economy of scale is not there. But now they see people are prepared to pay that, why lower the price?

Honestly I would love to see what they are doing with this AES+. Is it 1-to-1, chip to chip reproduction? (expectation) - FPGA type of recreation? (alternative) - or just some souped up custom hardware emulation?
Also the rom cartridges.... Will they be the same exact rom chips on dual layer - or will it be just some simplified version of dual layer setup with 1 chip per board to ensure compatiblity with older h/w?

For that reason alone, (and me being broke with kitchen renovation) - I'm going to wait on the actual hardware review with internal differences and all.
It sounds like it is supposed to be upgraded original hardware. So, it should have better components.

You're missing the point. This is cool as! I'd rather play these games on this machine than on a Playstation. It can be hooked up to the CRT too. It's cool, and clearly they've tapped in to something. I see this being the start of more machines similar.

For me, the interesting part is that this is the first time we've gotten (what appears to be) a legitimately high quality product from one of these efforts. Not an emulator box, not another shitty compilation with worse emulation than what you'd get with NeoRageX almost 30 years ago. The real deal. If Sega had the balls to do this with the Genesis and started putting out licensed games again, people would lose their minds.

There's some good homebrew, if that could get published on actual carts it would be amazing.

However iffy some of them might be, I'd be down for the ngdev stuff… especially something like Kraut Buster which is stuck on an arcane pcb that nobody's been able to dump yet. Final Vendetta would be cool, too. I feel like those aren't super likely, but one does have to wonder what they have up their sleeve to support this thing seeing as how an actual user base might actually exist.

No Idea if I'm right but SNK owners are likely very loyal and they don't need this but they dream of seeing what could happen in the future. Theire 100 million is a way to fininace any future projects. They love this machine so much.

The Genesis 2 mini was a total piece of shit. I own one.
I've got both of them, and something is definitely off with the filter and how the visuals look for certain games.

What's strange is that I hacked my Genesis 1, and games like Street Fighter 2 SCE look awful playing with Sega's launcher. Switch the console over and play it on Retroarch, and it looks much better. I don't get it.

If you play with the CRT filter on, certain games look too dark, play with it off, and it looks too pixelated.

Street Fighter II is one of the low resolution games of the console, as it was ported from the SNES. Could be the reason ? Shining Force games are also low res.

Actually, Shining Force 2 and CD both looked rough as well, so you may be on to something. I remember thinking Thunder Force 3 looked great on the original one.

Well yeah, that's the only thing that would explain some kind of visual difference. Looking at the games on the Mini 1, I think that Castlevania has its title screen being low res. But not the actual gameplay. Mega Man is low res. Both Monster World games too. Others should be high-res.

Absolutely.

I was playing Turf Masters and Football Frenzy today. New versions would be amazing.

They also teased a new Metal Slug, i wonder if it is for just PS/Nintendo/xbox/pc or if it could come to this?

I thought those 161 in 1 carts were made for MVS systems. Did you find one for AES?
