Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Impressions

Played for about 20 mins. Aside from some transversal stutters on PC it runs great, not an amazing looker tho, but good enough. Your character animations are awesome tho and I love the combat so far tho there was almost no difficulty whatsoever on action mode. Perhaps it gets harder later in the game. Anyway maybe Ill play some more tomorrow, but for now, I'm in.

Just let me know if it's trying to be like Sekiro so I can avoid it, I was hyped for the game because never played one, but my patience has limitations, if I cannot make it, no matter how many "git gud" you throw at me, I'll quit, I'm too old for this shit...

There is difficulty option which you play it on story mode if you want.

I just finished demo and fuck yeah this definitely my type of game.

Just like Pragmata I'm gonna replay the demo stupid amount of time.

Just finished and I absolutely loved it. Combat is really satisfying, particularly those blade barrages and deflecting. Also really like the designs of the Genma. I'll definitely be buying this day one.

Big fan of the original games but I unfortunately wasn't that impressed by the demo.

There's just something off about the combat. The attacks feel weightless and almost like your slicing through air....there just isn't much of an impact to anything is the best way I can describe it. Even the issens feel tame and not that rewarding.

The animation is soooooo goood. Love watching him fight.

Just finished it and i loved every second of it. It looks great, it runs great and the Combat feels great. I love that u can even counter grabs in this game. Another Capcom Banger, Day 1 for sure.

Man... Capcom is going for the hat trick, this feels like yet another certified banger :

- Buttery-smooth controls. They're so smooth you can almost feel butter oozing out of the controller.

- The animations? Amazing.

- Hit feedback + haptics/vibration = heaven. I don't know what the dude a couple of posts above was smoking, but good lord, the combat and swordplay feel incredible. You can literally feel the blade sink into enemies. This is some of the best vibration/haptic feedback I've ever experienced in a game. Amazing job, especially after RE Requiem and Pragmata where the hit feedback was solid (Pragmata especially), but the rumble felt somewhat lacking. Not here.

- Gameplay: thank the fucking heavens, this is NOT a Souls/Sekiro clone. Yes, there's parrying (in fact, the entire combat system seems built around it), but it feels very generous, smooth, and satisfying. For those who hate parry-heavy games, don't worry: this isn't Lies of P, The First Berserker: Khazan, or even Sekiro.
It's hard to put into words, but the combat somehow feels familiar while still managing to carve out its own identity.
Camera sensitivity feels good, although the camera itself sits a little too close to the player.

Difficulty-wise, it's unfortunately the usual modern Capcom affair where it's almost impossible to die on Normal difficulty, with bosses and sub-bosses being the only real exceptions.

The cutscenes are fantastic. Hell, even the English voice acting is great (can't believe I'm typing that). THIS is how you balance cutscenes and gameplay, not like that God of War Ragnarök Faye bullshit where it felt like I was trapped watching a goddamn boring movie.

My only real criticism is that, while it looks great and plays great, the whole package feels a little too familiar. Weird thing to say, I know.
Oh yes, typical of Capcom. the HDR is yet again shit...

That said, September is STACKED and I'll probably have to skip this one. I've been waiting for Phantom Blade Zero for years, and Capcom games usually drop in price fairly quickly anyway. I spent €90 on RE Requiem and €80 on Pragmata, so this time I'm actually going to be patient and wait.

thank the fucking heavens, this is NOT a Souls/Sekiro clone

the intro cinematic of Onimusha 2 is a core memory for me.
i assume the vibes is totally different though, it was so long ago. going to assume the more rpg-ish stuff is gone.

It is only the first level, but so far it plays like Sekiro for noobs. Why is it so heavy and slow? The combat and enemy animations are amazing. Parrying feels great. Good graphics. But I just don't see anything special about what this games combat does better than Nioh or Khazan. There are no stances or button combos? Where is the depth?

Phantom Blade Zero is going to take all the oxygen out of this game when it releases in early September

Have you played Onimusha games before? If you have you should these games are not hack & slash when you do 1000 combos mid air.
I don't need to do a million combos, but I will tell you right now, it will be extremely repetitive if the only gameplay loop is parry, attack, parry, attack, parry, attack

You do know you have different weapons through out the game including bow and Spear.

Yeah, my mind isn't made up. I wish the demo was later in the game to test out various builds. There isn't a "hook" for me yet. I don't know where the depth of combat comes from if there are no combos, no stamina bar, and no stances

This game could still be huge. The demo seems to appeal to a lot people who don't enjoy typical soulslike games, which is where I am coming from. It may not be for me, and that's fine

Played the demo on Steam. Damn, this game is awesome. Really love how they did the combat this time around. Feels like Onimusha but is clearly evolved with a lot of smart choices. As a long-time fan of the series, I was a bit skeptical of this at first, but I'm sold with this demo. The only negative for me was that the lighting looked a bit drab or flat compared to recent RE games, but it's still not a bad looking game. Would have loved a path tracing option (maybe in a future update?).

Be careful when switching to 120hz and then attempt to restart the game as instructed. I ended up with a black screen on my OLED. I actually had to pull the TV plug off and back in to get the screen back.

Played both Series X and PS5 Pro. Series X looks good has play anywhere.PS5 Pro has ray tracing and motion blur options and frame rate does feels smoother on pro along with a sharper image.

Probably get PS5 pro version. Parry timing felt easier to pull off consistently.
