『Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME』OFFICIAL TRAILER 1

Some context: Phone/PC game. Based on an anime/manga (I don't recognize it, but I miss most anime these days; it does have a following and the toon apparently is action-packed.) Likely not to come here (I think most of the games by this studio are Japan-Only, they did do Romancin Saga Re:Universe but did that go international?)

In any case, this is a no-gameplay teaser so who knows how this game will turn out, but at least it's nice to get to see some eye candy work from Production IG here.

This IP is that popular? I see it on the front page of Crunchyroll when I open the app, but I didn't know it was popular enough to get a decently good production-level video game before something like Chainsaw Man or Shield Hero get their own AA games.

Eh, it's popular enough from what I can tell, but this isn't necessarily promising "decently good production-level". Tons of anime get their own games in Japan (including Shield Hero but not yet Chainsaw Man AFAIK, instead some of its characters have been crossed over into other mobile games,) and they are of varying quality and usually lower than "decently good" if you have high standards.

Like, this is the same development studio's own Tribe Nine game:

But you never know, could be good.

I liking the show a lot but majority of the time, good show doesn't necessarily will make for a good game.

The type of anime that I like. Filled with action and likeable characters. Fingers crossed for this game being good.

Quite like that the protagonist is this blue collar worker and his back story. The question is if that makes it into the game. Would make the character more relateable for those that do not watch the anime. Then again, if you buy this game you probably watch the anime as well. This and Solo Leveling are on my personal short list for anime of 2024 so far.

It's a gacha game (PC and mobile) and it will probably be Japan only. :p

It might get a global release later on if it does well in Japan.

That said, I'm more curious about this other upcoming ARPG from Akatsuki Games:

Anime IP mobile games are by and large "pump and dump" type games. They release the game while the anime is semi-relevant with the sole purpose of siphoning out as much money as possible in the shortest time frame. They (typically) have no long term plans for the game, there is no thought on whether or not the IP can support a multi-year game because it doesn't matter.

If you're even looking at this, set a hard and fast rule to go in for free, check it out until the daily grind becomes a chore (it 100% will), and then uninstall. If you see Crunchyroll's logo on it, just don't even bother installing it.

At least the generic anime arena fighters can still be played a few years later, despite not usually being very good beyond super move fanservice, these games will be shut down pronto as soon as the revenue dips and you will have nothing to show for it, won't be able to log in, etc.

TL; DR - just don't bother.

It's stil wild to me they haven't released the JJK mobile game outside of Asia, considering how huge the manga and anime are.

Easiest money in the world.

With the exception of Dragon Ball, anime games are lazy cash grabs. Avoid.

I would love a full-fledged Saint Seiya RPG, for console or mobile. Very odd nobody makes one.

I read a fair amount of the manga and it is genuinely good, but this will likely just be mobile shovelware.
