🏈 NFL 2025

Genuine question for genuine american football fans.

Is the superbowl enjoyable for you? Im talking about the ones there for the sport...

Like sure having a famous artist sing and so on is normal for most finals

But it feels like the football part of the superbowl is the last part anyone cares about, actors in the stands promoting movies and causes, politicians using it as moment to grandstand, its just one huge advertising event.

Like I dunno, I guess when I watch the final I dont care about any of that I just want to watch the sport

I watch every Super Bowl (and playoff games, plus way too many regular season) because I love the sport, and the Super Bowl is often one of the best games in the season because teams will give it their everything. I don't pay any attention to whatever political BS bad faith actors are using for or against the sport, I just tune in because I love pro football, and it's a great escape for me to get away from whatever political junk is going on in the mainstream.

I also never watch the half time (at least in nearly 20 years), because they never have artists I'm interested in, and I'm there just to watch football.

As a sports fan though don't you kind of wish it was like other final cups, it starts with an artist who sings, opening ceremony then bam sports... and like if anyone famous is there it's to support the game.

I saw things like Kevin James promoting his new movie (as wasting a ticketed seat in the stadium) and tom morello going just to prove some political points...

Seems like it ruins it for fans who genuinely have a love for the game and should be there instead.

Normal fans rarely go to the actual Super Bowl anyway, considering it is so cost prohibitive for the middle class these days. Also, the best seat is always in front of your TV. I don't care what celebrities or anyone else is doing there, I just want to watch football.

it's just a different mindset for a different sport I suppose, it's just anytime i see anything superbowl related it never seems to be about the actual teams or who won or how it played.

Take this a foreignor who only gets their american football related news from media.

Most of the stuff surrounding the SB is absoutely dumb as hell but sadly it's not meant for the diehard football fan in the first place.

I'd love for them to scrap the whole halftime show nonsense, do it the Saturday night before if you have to. Or at least do it pregame, not at halftime. And what on earth were those goofy sideline interviews with the QBs literally two fucking minutes before kickoff?? Insane.

Keep the anthem and the flyover, get rid of everything else.

See the bolded is what gets me... that would piss me off so much as a fan of my team. Like I can only speak on world events like a World Cup, but it should be two nations battling each other for the win. I guess two states in this situation... all that other stuff should be booted from the game. I know i'ts purely the money and that's why, it's just sad to me like you say that the actual enthusiasts of the sport kinda get screwed on what is the biggest tournament.

But hey, i am genuinely just asking as an outside observer, i am not an american football and i can't speak to it's fandom either.

It just baffles me when i see this every year, because i just think of my fondest sporting memories and how shit it would be if it was heavilty politicised or turned into one big advertisment.

I hope you guys do get what you say because i think that's better for the fans. I heard rumors that the football (soccer) world cup was pushing for a half-time show this year, if that is true i don't think footy fans will be too pleased :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yeah I get you but weirdly enough the shenanigans around the SB are probably more annoying when you're a football fan but your own team isn't actually in it. Otherwise it just fades into the background to be forgotten immediately.

My team has made and won the SB twice and I was so pumped both times that none of the off-field stuff could bother me in the slightest. Maybe with the exception of a literal 30-minute blackout during one of the SBs that almost caused a massive comeback by the other team but even that was just funny in retrospect.

There are a lot of problems with the NFL right now. #1 issue is legalized gambling. The NFL is doing a piss poor job of proving that games are "organic." I don't think the players are fixing games per se, but I 100% believe that the refs are.

What will make NFL fans stop watching? The casuals don't care about the added drama of refs f**king games up and the die hards aren't going to watch hockey.

Also, this might be an outlier but I probably watched 25 NFL games this year and I can't remember the last time a game was over by early 4th quarter. I feel like when I was growing up a third of the games weren't worth watching after halftime because they were blowouts. WTF happened to blowouts?!

Got to keep those games within the point spreads. A little pass interference here, a little holding there, we will even call this extra point good, when it is clearly not and never review it, even though every scoring play and turnover is automatically reviewed. 🤷‍♂️

I don't even think it's that. I think telling advertisers they're retaining the audience for all 3 hours pulls in a lot more money. Viewership has to plummet if one team is 3 scores up in the 2nd half.

A big part of it (if I remember correctly) was that especially during the 80s, games were often blowouts and people lost interest in watching, so they created elaborate half time shows in the 90s to retain viewers, even if the game is garbage.

I think it's part of that, but when the public is losing hundreds of millions every week, that is a lot more money than those ads are taking in. How much the gambling sites are paying the NFL is the question. Every game is constantly talking about gambling and loads of gambling ads. That shit is 1000 times worse than any alcohol or tobacco (now banned) ads. Gambling addictions, IMO, are worse than any drug/alcohol addiction. They all destroy lives and families, but gambling does it in the worst way, and now they are getting men addicted to it at such a young age.

Gambling ads is unfortunately not an NFL problem. It's a sports problem, and a legal/political problem. These companies are making so much money that they're able to lobby politicians to change - or refuse to change - laws to allow these ads to air.

This is like all those "ask your doctor" ads that scare people into thinking they need a new $300/mo drug just because their left ear lobe itches which may mean they have stomach cancer.

What's worse is you're watching almost any sports commentary show and they talk about gambling in those because those gambling companies sponsor those shows. They don't just run ads, they pay to have the hosts talk about their bets.

It's beyond the point of ridiculousness and if history has shown us anything is that politicians will not turn away from bribes campaign donations.

Depending on when you were a kit, the salary cap happened. So now unless your team is ran by a completely incompetent owner/front office. You're somewhat competitive. Or at least competitive enough to not be a joke.

That as is fucked, and yeah - people are going to use it to find their dogs.

For context, this is how far they will move. Still good enough for season ticket holders and I bet Huge Tax breaks.

That's not accurate, Hammond is in the Chicagoland area right off the state line basically.

Wolf Lake they posted is close to Fort Wayne (WAY too close to me!!!)
