WTF

Fourteen students and one teacher were killed in a shooting Tuesday morning at a Texas elementary school, Gov. Greg Abbott said.
The suspected shooter, who might have had a handgun and rifle, was fatally wounded by responding law enforcement, he said.
The incident was no longer active Tuesday afternoon. The suspected shooter was 18, authorities said.

Absolutely sickening.

Serious question as a non US citizen, but what could change to stop further attacks like this?

Not a ton but in some cases some forms of better gun control could have helped, but it's super hard to stop and if a shooter wanted to do these things, theres many ways around it.

An 18-year-old suspect was fatally wounded by responding law enforcers, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

The suspected shooter was taken into custody just after 1 p.m. local time, the Uvalde Police Department announced on Facebook. No other details, including the suspect's name and the number of those injured, were disclosed.

What?

I really don't understand why this is a 'thing'. Pieces of shit. All of them.

It says 2 were confirmed dead right and the rest were injured ???

edit:

I guess it was 14 fucking damn. RIP.

Absolutely heartbreaking.

The shooter can burn in fucking hell for the rest of eternity.

Can't even begin thinking what these poor families are going through. Absolutely horrible.

Plenty, but I don't want to steer this into some sort of political discussion. I think I'm gonna go get my kids early today.

Time for a 34th amendment to get rid of the guns.

You'll get more support than you did for the 18th one I promise you.

FUCK

Last I read there were 2 deaths, presumably adults, and a bunch of children injured but not seriously, with the only major injury being an older woman. I know it was and is a developing story when I first saw it break a bit ago, but I honestly didn't expect it to turn into this.

This is downright infuriating.

Coming up on 10 years since Sandy Hook and nothing's changed
No one has seriously considered that schools are vulnerable. A lot of east targets. So crazies wanting to get a high body count will go to a disarmed populace.

The name was just on the news it has been confirmed. I would just not say it as these guys want the fame. Even after death. Don't give them that.

In the reality that this won't happen and there are 400million firearms. And a law would be impossible to enforce.

maybe we should be rethinking how schools operate. Where they are located. And the rules and laws in place that are supposed to protect them.

The shooter in buffalo specifically picked that spot because of conceal carry numbers and knew the population was defenseless.

Schools are vulnerable.

The suspect apparently killed or shot a family member before going out and killing the students.

So I don't think this was a political agenda or racial agenda. That's just my guess.

Not white, so it doesn't fit their narrative or what the media was hoping for.

The other part wasn't known when his name was announced. The photos are really going to enrage the other place.

You know it will just be forgotten and disappeared. Or the spin will be they/he did this because of oppression and the privledged pushed him to do this….

Why Does the U.S. Have So Many Mass Shootings? Research Is Clear: Guns. https://nyti.ms/2hODjP5

I found it interesting in the other thread that Switzerland was mentioned as a place where there was a lot of guns but not alot of gun violence.

Switzerland has the second-highest gun ownership rate of any developed country, about half that of the United States. Its gun homicide rate in 2004 was 7.7 per million people — unusually high, in keeping with the relationship between gun ownership and murders, but still a fraction of the rate in the United States.

US 33 per mill
Canada 5 per mill
GB 0.7 per mill
Switzerland 7.7 per mill

I would be interested to see if this has changed since the initial article.

10 years after we did nothing, we let 5-9 year olds die again. That's how young the kids are in elementary schools. I had hoped that Sandy hook would've made Americans care about the children enough to do something about this, but nope. These kids were likely all born after the Sandy hook shooting. I have a kid going to an elementary school and I'm terrified. Why this has become a left vs right thing is beyond me. I just don't understand anything anymore.

I don't want this to sound as if I'm saying loss of life in any other tragic situation is less meaningful but the fact this involved mostly children is gut wrenching.

No words for something like this. It's just bullshit. Years since Sandy Hook and not a god damn thing has changed.

I hope the families involved are able to find some kind of peace and I hope the gunman fucking rots.
