Why the people just look for 1998 and 2004 as the best years in gaming? They're the Playstation generation? There was gaming before Sony. As a veteran (I´ve played since Kung-fu Master and Street Fighter 2) I get sad for people doesn´t look back at 1994 or another year for launch of quality games. There was so many good thing there boys. Take a look:

Arcade
Aero Fighters 2
Alien vs. Predator (A dream (or nightmare?) comes true)
Art of Fighting 2 (Big, really big characters)
Cruis'n USA (Ultra64 is coming)
Darkstalkers - The Night Warriors (Bright 2d grpaphics and funny characters)
Killer Instinct (Best surprise ever in fighting game)
King of Fighters '94 (Another dream comes true)
Mortal Kombat 3
NBA Jam Tournament Edition (Most Funny BB game ever)
Primal Rage (Shit controls)
Ring of Destruction - Slammasters II
Samurai Shodown II (Best 2d along Street Fighter)
Super Street Fighter II Turbo (The best SF along 3S)
Tekken
Virtua Cop
Windjammers - Flying Disk Game
World Heroes 2 Jet (2 was better)
X-Men - Children of the Atom (MAME favorite)

Snes
Breath of Fire
Demon's Crest
Donkey Kong Country (The graphics, the melodies)
Earthworm Jim
Final Fantasy 6
Illusion of Gaia
Maximum Carnage (The red cartigde)
Mortal Kombat 2
Super Metroid (Best game ever)
Super Punch Out
Super Street Fighter II - The New Challengers (The best SF on Snes)
World Heroes 2

Genesis
Earthworm Jim
Maximum Carnage
Ristar
Shining Force 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Street of Rage 3

I´m sorry for Genesis fans, but I can´t find a reliable database. This is MY opinion about 1994 games. I´ve played many games from this list. There are another games, but I can´t remember. Thanks God, because 2d changed my life forever.

You forgot about Daytona and Virtua Fighter 2 in the arcade list. But yeah, the arcade scene was firing at all cyllinders back then. Console gaming in 1994 could barely compare to what coin-op gaming had to offer.

Hey, that it´s MY list, based in games styles that I like. Who here doesn´t like Samurai Shodown 2 ou Super Metroid. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. Tchau.

Do we have to? I'm lazy.

Can I just make a thread called 1982 and leave it at that? No one told me about these member requirements!

I DEMAND A RECOUNT!

I remember gaming back in nineteen aught six. We had a ball, and a stick. We used to throw that ball at that boy we didn't like, and then shoved the stick up his ass until he cried for the Lord Jesus Christ. Course, he couldn't really talk, what with his disease and all, so it sounded more like "Large corn rise." After that we'd go home and watch pappy fuck momma on the table while we ate our cornbread hash.

True that the best game ever is still Super Metroid BUT, the amount of AAA titles that are truly great gives the overall victory to 2004 imo.

my pc list is very incomplete.. there is no definitive list for pc games by year that I can find.

1994 was my personal fave year for gaming ever, but it was for very personal reasons. To say it was better than 1998 or 2004 is insane.

Sorry, but the fact that both World Heroes and Maximum Carnage was listed twice makes this list pretty laughable.

Also, the fact that you left out some actually good Genesis games, such as Virtua Racing, Beyond Oasis, and Crusader or Centy is even worse.

Oh, and...

Perhaps you remember 1982.

Joust
Robotron 2084
Sinistar
Dig-Dug

(I should be able to stop here and be declared the winner)

TRON
Xevious
Zaxxon
Zoo Keeper
Q*Bert
Time Pilot
Pole Position
Mr. Do!
Millipede
Donkey Kong Jr.
Gravitar
Kangaroo
Burgertime
Bump'n Jump
10 Yard Fight
Pengo
Popeye
Space Duel
Quantum
...and let's not forget RADICAL RADIAL.

Talk about greatest games of respective genres - most of these games created their respective genres. And unlike many of the games in both the 1994 and 1998 lists, most of them are still just as enjoyable to play today as they were back then.

alas I don't see any RTS, FPS, squad combat, rpg, etc games in there.. not knocking the list, but 1998 was MUCH more diverse.

STFU. :D show me one game on my 1998 list that is any less enjoyable today than it was 6 years ago.

Today is more fucking awesome than yesterday. Why? Because new games came out! And guess what, tomorrow is more fucking awesome than today, and 10 years from now will really kick ass because I'll still be able to play all the goddamn games be it from 1994, 1998 or kiss my sweet ass its 1982!

If you weren't playing the Wasteland on the C-64 (or another powerhouse computer from the late 80s) then you have no right to speak on what the greatest gaming years were.... plus I am getting sick of these threads...
