Always been an interesting column in Game(TM) for me - they list twenty games for each platform that they consider must-own titles. Not ranked in any way, just twenty games in alphabetical order that are must-own games for that system. Thought I'd type up this month's for GA discussion, dissection and doubtless unfounded mockery. Also interesting to see how many people own. I figure a fair way to count is that as long as you own the system, you can count a game as owned if you have it on another platform instead. Also the GTA double pack can also be satisfied by owning GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City.

Looking down the lists, I own:
PS2 - 13 titles. Don't care much for the sports games, and I've never seen Amplitude at a price I've been willing to pay, though I'm always looking out for it, and one of these days it'll hit the bargain bucket and it will be mine.

XBox - 6 titles. This list reminds me why XBox is not my favourite console. I'm sure they're all great games, but there's so much there that just isn't the sort of game I like. Fortunately there are also some XBox games I do like that don't make this sort of list...

GC - 11 titles. No, you can't count Super Monkey Ball 2 twice if you happen to own two copies, and I think they're smoking crack to rate it more highly than the original.

GBA - 13 titles. And the only reason it's not 14 is because I already own LTTP on SNES. This is why Nintendo's competitors in the handheld space fear them, then die.

PC - 3 titles. What can I say? I tend to dislike PC titles every bit as much as XBox ones (there's a certain amount of crossover) and I don't have a meaty PC. Lack of great RPGs on this list makes me cry.

WTF is Gregory Horror Show?

It's a really quirky Capcom game with blocky 3D graphics, where you're trapped in a mansion/hotel run by a freakish mouse and need to retrieve souls for Death (who's Swedish). It came out in Japan and Europe - haven't seen anything about a US release, though. I wouldn't class it as a must-own particularly, except inasmuch as it's one of the few games you can gloat about to US gamers because we get it and you don't. Still not as good as Shenmue 2 on DC for that, of course.

In summary:
The Cube list was ok. I'm upset it left out some other titles I liked, but whatever.
That PC list is pure shit. Serious, the majority is Soccer and war FPS trash. Where's Warcraft III/Starcraft? Diablo II? Heroes of Might & Magic 3? Fallout? Baldur's Gate? Rollercoaster Tycoon 2? Max Payne? Doom 3? Sure, you might disagree with some of those, but surely more deserving than a list of war fpss and soccer trash.
