The nominations for the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards (and the 52nd, 34th, or 21st one since they lost their credibility depending on who you ask) came out last night and features some things that will make GAF happy (Suburbs for Album of the Year! Cee-Lo for Song of the Year and Record of the Year! Lady Gaga for Album of the Year!) and a lot of things that will make GAF angry (Justin Bieber for Best New Artist! Katy Perry for anything! Lady Gaga for Album of the Year!). The biggies:

I know what you're thinking. "But Oozer, what about King Of Douchebags/Leading Musical Artist of Our Times & Voice of his Generation Kanye West? Surely he was nominated for something!" Of course he was. And don't call me Shirley.
R.I.P. Leslie Nielsen :(

Full list of nominees including everything from the minor, technical awards (Album of the Year) to the prestigious ones that everyone will be talking about the next day (Best Album Notes and Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package) here:

P.S. Anyone who says that House That Built Me shouldn't win Song of the Year is wrong. Yes I know it's an opinion. But it's wrong.

P.P.S. In case you forgot, never heard, or were too busy freaking out about your sister and girlfriend getting into a car crash to find out what happened last year, here's a refresher:

Arcade Fire deserves to win for just about everything they're nominated for, but they have no chance. Gaga and Eminem will have the biggest nights, I'm guessing. Oh yeah, Taylor Swift too.

Also wouldn't mind seeing Cee Lo Green win for "Fuck You."

Before this thread gets too big, what is the difference between "record of the year" and "song of the year"?

Isn't it the same thing?

Another Grammy list that I don't give a crap about... How much does it cost to buy one of these awards? And why is "F*** You" even nominated? Such a trash track.

As I recall, Kanye's album is out too late to be eligible. Power proceeded it by quite a bit so I'm guessing that's why it was nominated.

I think that happened with 808s a few years ago.

Song of the Year is all about the songwriting; that goes to the artist. Record of the year is all about the production and performance; that goes to the artist, producers, etc. I think.

Katy Perry nominated for a music award.:lol :lol

I don't think I'll ever believe the checks that have been cut to keep those tits playing on the radio like somebody actually enjoys that shit.

Imma get your heart racing

Be your teenage dream, tonight!

Another year of laughable Grammy awards.

Recovery for album of the year :lol
Blueprint 3 :lol
Justin Bieber :lol

The nominations only serve to generate holiday sales and attract viewers - it has absolutely nothing to do with honoring good music. If your record sold well or charted high, chances are you'll get a nomination.

My initial response was "Arcade Fire?!?!? O.o" My second response has been, "Arcade Fire??!? 0.0" seriously. Grammys nominating someone who deserves to win?!?!?

Same thought I have. They also gave Black Keys a nomination which I am happy about. Even Mumford & Sons I am happy to see got a nom. Also Pearl Jam got a nom for Backspacer which came out last year in september.

Record of the year is an individual song

Album of the year is the entire Album

(I think)

That whole list is laughable besides Arcade Fire.

That actually made me burst out laughing.

Look, I understand the teens choice awards, or the MTV awards nominating this stuff....

But shouldnt we have a single organization that isn't an enormous joke?

At least the oscars have some dignity. If the oscars were run by the grammy people, then the annual saw film would make the "movie of the year" nomination, as would the latest scary movie parody thing.

The Grammy's used to have dignity.....a decade or two ago. :lol

If I got something nominated, id first be super happy, and then id look to see who else was invited and not feel so special.

It's like getting a VIP invitation to a timeshare sales event.

86. Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)
An Arranger's Award. (Artist names appear in parentheses.) Singles or Tracks only.

Baba Yetu
Christopher Tin, arranger (Christopher Tin, Soweto Gospel Choir & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra)
Track from: Calling All Dawns
[Tin Works Publishing]
Hope this wins! Also, I didn't know that Christopher Tin released a full album - I'm going to have to look into this now. :O

Katy Perry I love your breasts but why is your album nominated? GAF vs main stream music thread. Don't remotely care for Eminem's new work since it is garbage.

This years boring, fast forward to 2012 awards please. Kanye vs Taylor.

Hope La Roux deserves all the awards they are slated to get, hope they win something

Katy Perry nominated for an award :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Also Adventures of Bobby Ray best rap album nominee :lol :lol :lol :lol

I'm looking forward to the news headlines and GAF meltdowns more so then the actual awards show tbh

One of my favorite E-memories of ALL TIME was when sohh literally shut down when taylor preformed "innocent" at the VMAs:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Every nominee for album, song, record and artist of the year is making me consider to stop listening to any new music period.

Grammy's can fuck themselves for not having Big Boi's album up for rap album of the year.

Holy shit, I completely forgot about this one. FUCK now that pisses me off. After Kanye, of the mainstream rappers Big Boi was DA BEST. How could this happen?

The Roots got nominated for Best Rap Album. Other than that, another awful representation of Hip-Hop. As usual... At least the Academy nominates good movies (even if some awful ones sometimes win).

No Janelle Monet?

Janelle Monae was nominated for both Best Contemporary R&B Album & Best Urban/Alternative Performance

Pretty trash list though, SHOCKED to see so many Eminem nods. Also the lack of Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty and & LCD's latest is a CRIME

Why do we have these threads? Its the same bitching moaning and crying every year.

All these award shows are about the mainstream artists, sales, and whats popular. Why do people still get outraged about it?

Actually forgot about this, surprised that didn't get a nomination considering it's pretty amazing and reviewed better then every other nominee.

My roomate wasn't joking when he said the Grammies are a joke now :lol

And Jay-Z... I mean, I love "Empire State of Mind", but "On to the next One" and Blueprint 3? Come on...
