Kentucky's youth is really showing right now

I wish we had the chance to play each other in the NCAAs though. Can't believe it's never happened. We came close a few times. This should be an entertaining game between UK and Louisville.

They've played each other once in post-season play. 71 NIT

They would have played each other in the 91 championship game had Ol Roy and Kansas not been in the way. Beginning the legacy of Kansas beating UNC in the NCAA Tourney.

I don't think UK can summon a Wichita St. like performance again. Or at least not close enough to beat Louisville. Will be interesting.

They should have been like that all year with the recruiting class they pulled in.. Granted the Harrison twins were overrated.. Young and Randle are legit though..

Is that Billy Packer I hear warming up?

lol, it was Roy's fault all along. I remember St. Dean getting tossed in that game.

Hate to see WCS with a serious injury.

They don't meet in the tournament because the selection committee helps them avoid each other. Since the expansion to 64 teams they've never been able to meet before the Final Four and 19 of 26 times they couldn't meet till the championship.

I love how there's been 8 and a half minutes of physical play and now the ref's going to call a touch foul. It gets on my nerves how arbitrary the officiating is sometimes.

There are seeding and placement guidelines in place that avoid intraconference match-ups. For example, the rule that the first three teams taken from a conference have to be placed in different regions. In general Duke and UNC are among the top 3 teams in the ACC, so they almost always get put in different regions.

Before the Big East super-expansion it was an absolute requirement that teams in the same conference couldn't play one another until the Elite 8. They changed that to no intraconference games in the first round (round of 64) in 06 due to conferences like the Big East putting so many teams into the tourney.

Of course if you subscribe to the theory of storyline seeding, it would make sense that the committee would try and make that match-up mean as much as possible and that means making it as late in the tourney as possible.

And of course we miss the pass to an open randle under the basket in exchange for a contested 1 on 2 at the rim.

/facepalm

Woulda been sexy if he had thrown it down though, I must admit.

As far as I can tell, there is no longer any rule regarding conference matchup a. The SEC ont got 3 teams in this year and two are in the same region.

And yes, I do subscribe to storyline seeding. Just pure dumb odds, even if both Duke and UNC were 1 seeds, would result in them having a 50/50 shot of meeting up in the Final Four but instead it's more like 75/25.
