2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Unveiled As Mid-Engine Rocket

Pricing aside, the stats suggest it's off to a good start as well. As speculated, the engine sitting behind the passengers is a 6.2-liter V8, derived from the LT1 that powered the C7 Stingray but it's basically an all-new beast. That mill is now dubbed LT2, due to the design changes required for mid-engine duty and for the increase in power it received.

Speaking of, the 2020 Stingray makes 490 horsepower – 495 hp with the optional Z51 Performance Package – which is a considerable jump over the 460-hp LT1. There is some disappointing news for row-your-own enthusiasts, however. That power is handled exclusively by a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, though you can still swap cogs at will with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. And yes, it still goes exclusively to the rear wheels.

What do you guys think? Personally, I love it.

It must have been a really tough call to break with the tradition of having a front engine. In the end, I'm sure this move will bring performance more in line with MR cars like Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches. What I'm honestly wondering is if Corvettes still use leaf springs?

But yeah, I love Corvettes. My dad used to have a 1979 Corvette which he had imported to Germany from California. It came in a super ugly kind of carmesin red and had blue leather interior, which was an absolutely ugly colour combination. He had the car resprayed in pearl white, which looked aboslutely awesome. Shame I don't have pics of it anymore :(

And that starts at 60k? Wow

PS, link is broken for me on mobile

Fixed the link. Yeah, that price in the US is bonkers. But that thing will cost €120k here in Germany. If they can sell it, that is. They've stopped selling the Camaro over here because it doesn't comply with emissions regulations.

Looks like a pay per win EA ´s product.

Saddly that price only belongs to U.S.......

I don't know what a "pay per win EA ´s product" is, but I do know it when I see one of the most beautiful sports cars released in the last couple of years. And that price in the US is kind of theoretical, because on top of that you have a)taxes and b)options, so in reality I guess many of these will cost the buyer a hundred grand.

never really felt the corvette but dug the design of the c5, between the new design, the engine configuration and the "affordable supercar" vibe it puts off, probably going to get one

I really like the C7 design and this looked decent from the initial shots, however i was curious what the rear looked like and i'm not feeling it.

looks a better off center though.

I drove a LT3 C7 in 2014 along PCH in LA before it came to market. It's all the car one will ever need. 30mpg highway, 0-60 in the 3s, AC seats, huge audio sound, carbon targa top, high 40s street sale price new. This C8 makes the C7 look even better, and as it's cheaper, a bargain.

It does look a bit cramped, and that storage compartment you'll end up resting your right elbow on is rather weird.

Edit: Well, EviLore's video below shows that that storage compartment lid is in front of where your elbow will be. So it'll always be in your peripheral vision, which seems a bit odd to me, from an esthetic point of view.

This video has a 6'2 guy in the cockpit. It doesn't look too bad, but I'd need to try it out to get a proper feel for the ergonomics.

I don't think I like it. Is it possible to be too flashy for a corvette?

Well, the car needs some elements like additional cold air intakes and hot air vents in stategic places because it is a mid-engine car. I don't really think it is too flashy. Next to previous, higher spec Corvettes, it seems rather tame to me. From the angle in the video above, it reminds me of an updated Ferrari F430, which is kinda awesome!

I'm not a Corvette guy, by nature of being more of a Ford and MoPar guy and for GM Buick (Nailheads: * Tom Ivo and Max Balchowski* and GS stage 1's) and Pontiac (anything massaged by Mickey Thompson r.i.p.) fan of old, but Zora Arkus-Duntov is smiling upon GM today. I will go on record that the C7 Stingray is a beauty and this C8 is even more.

What the hell is that strip of buttons to the right. What a shitshow.

a corvette that actually looks good - am i dreaming? i would own one of those, assuming the handling isn't complete shit

alas, at 35 im not sure i am old enough to legally purchase one. perhaps when i'm 55, fat and divorced

It's the one sports car that tends to be available for the rest of us. It even handles tall people like me.

God I love Corvettes.

Some time ago at Chevrolet : "What if we made a McLaren, but cheaper."

I love it, a truly awesome looking car. I'm not sure why it's a corvette, but maybe they just can't support multiple sports cars in the lineup and had to give it the corvette name to bring it to market.

Wait. I thought cars were going to be phased out my American manufactures. Did something change?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the handling got a boost by merit of becoming a mid engine car.

Once you go SUV you never go back.
There are very few sports cars I fit in. I went around trying a bunch once. I noticed a pattern. Any sports car intended for the track fits me. That's because they are made for people to wear helmets and maybe install a roll cage later on. Any sports car intended just for the street... nope.

Corvettes, Nissan Z, nope. GTR, FRS/BRZ yes. and so on.

how tall are you that you can't fit in a normal sized car?

Large frame 6'4". Depends on the car really. I have a 2003 Nissan Frontier that fits me just fine but the newer model I bump my head on the damn b pillar every time we go off road. The Nissan Z, my knees are pushed against the dash and my head is touching the roof with the seat all the way back.

I currently drive an LC500 but I've owned 3 corvettes in the past. When the Z version comes out I'll be buying this for sure. I'm actually stunned at how cheap this car is. 60k is a steal. It's going to crush mustang gt350 sales, R8 sales, cayman sales. It's goijg to take sales from any sports car in the 50k-150k range. The Supra is completely fucked.

Corvettes are 100% designed for the track. Far more than an FRs/BRZ. Just pull the seat and get a real track seat with set low profile mount if you're too tall. You can also get custom stuff done. I know taller people than you that own corvettes. The Z specifically is a more serious track car than even a GTR.

Overall it's beautiful and a beast only thing I don't like is the very long row of controls on the right of the cockpit, looks out of place on such a fantastic design.

The Corvette is designed for old men to drive to the golf course or take a road trip. The FRS was specifally designed for the track. The rear seat is just to get cheaper insurance. The rear folding design was made especially for four tires to fit in so you could drive to the track and swap to track tires. Oh and the Z is a toy compared to the GTR.

Lmaoooooooooooooooooooooo

That is the most absurd thing I've ever heard in my life. You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. The c5z is purposely sought out as a track tool for novices and enthusiasts alike. While your GTR is throwing codes and burning up from heatsoak the c6z burns off laps after laps and with better lap times as well.

Oh and the c7z handily beats the NISMO GTR

I'm sure you're just a fanboy that loves imports based on your ridiculous assertion that a BRZ is some kind of good track tool and that back seat line is just bullshit car salesman say. The same nonsense was said to me by the Lexus salesman when I got my LC500. Seriously it's complete nonsense.

Your BRZ also made several "least reliable" lists on google. Why the crap would a car that can't even hold together on the street be a solid track choice? It's not. It's a low power sporty coupe for a cheap price. The Miata is a much better choice for the track at that price range. Either that or a used c5/c6.

LOL ok big shot. Have it your way... I'm just a fanboy with no experience at all. Edit: Time is gravity pass it along!

Considering I just completely proved you're full of shit I'd say so. I can post pics of me at COTA and dragging knee at several Texas tracks as well as all the imports and domestics ive owned. I've driven and owned these cars and others. I also know what breaks and what doesn't at tracks. You know what I don't see at tracks? BRZs lol. I do see a few GTRs and they are great cars but the Z is faster and more focused, that's just a fact. It's also more reliable and cheaper to maintain. These are facts.

Has a few of my cars. The Audi was tuned and had 600awhp. Ran 10s all day. The vettes were all head cam jobs with tunes by LG. The Ducati is an 1199s and the yami is an R6. I had to slow down with extreme cars bc my back started bothering me but it's better now so I'll be selling my LC to get a c8Z when it's out.

You are taking this entirely too personally. You can make anything into anything. I used to take pleasure in being the underdog and making something out of nothing. Doesn't mean those were ever intended to be track cars. The Corvette is just a blank piece of paper. You choose to draw a race car that is your business. More power to you.
